RE: Some random questions driving through Canada to Alaska

We have AT&T and bought $90 worth of Text and Talk minutes for Canada. The phone was a brick and a complete disapointment. As far north as Watson Lake we had zero service from it. At the visitor center, the ladies there said AT&T phones don't work the whole length of the Canadian portion of the Alaskan Hwy. I got online with AT&T from there and they removed the text/talk package and credited it back without a hassle. We have had good luck using wifi from visitor centers so far, but don't count on your AT&T phone. And be sure to put your phone/ipad on airplane mode!

RE: Information resources?

We prefer to rent the lot somebody else bought and let them have the issues with taxes and HOA fees, etc. if we like it there, we can almost certainly return. If not, we roll on. We've met several people who bought a place only to discover a dream location on the other coast...

RE: SPECIAL LICENSE TO DRIVE ??

We're from Illinois, and were confused for a while. Imagine Illinois government being confusing... Our diesel pusher is over 26,000 pounds, so hubby had to get a Class B (non CDL) license. They road test you in your rig after you take a written test that has a lot of questions that seem to pertain to truckers rather than RVers. The DMV can give you a book to study up for the test.

RE: Garner State Park sites pictures

Parkview Riverside is just across the Frio River from Garner. You might want to check there.

RE: Livng in a pusher?

Many of us live in diesel pushers! We're currently watching a DVD on our 42 inch flat screen mounted in the front of our coach, while seated in two Eurolounger type chairs. Our coach was built with two couches, but the original owner yanked out one couch and had a nice computer desk put in, along with one of the comfy chairs. That TV was an upgrade we did from the original 26 inch. Fulltimers like to make their homes nice. We don't feel like we crane our necks to watch TV at all.

RE: Big Rig Campground Guide

We're fulltimers and we have both. When it's time to find a place to park our 40 footer, we start with the Big Rig book and RV Park Reviews. The online version of the Big Rig book is great because of the updates. No, it's ot 100%, but it's the best starting point we've found. KISS--we threw away all those thick campground books after we realized we hadn't opened them in over a year. :-)

RE: Cheap or free overnighting in NE Indiana, and Indy.

After calling three Wal-marts on the northern edge of Indy and getting firm NO responses to requests for overnight parking, we spotted a Meijer grocery store while fueling up. Figured it couldn't hurt to ask, and they welcomed us with open arms. Your mileage may vary...

RE: Oregon Hgy 101 RV trip

We fueled up our 40 footer at Fred Meyers in Brookings. Best we could find--lots of cars, but it was easy on, easy off here.

RE: freezer food

When we bought our "new to us" coach for fulltiming, I got a washer/dryer and hubby got a spare fridge/freezer that goes in a basement compartment. It has a dial to turn it from a fridge to a freezer. It cost around $1,000. I was thinking a spare freezer would be great, since our Norcold fridge had a teensy freezer (since replaced with a residential fridge that we love!). Yeah, that basement fridge is his "beer fridge"--never has been used for a freezer. But it's doable. Others will help you with the boondocking issue.

RE: Day/Night Blind Alternative?

We had MCD install our shades and it turned our bedroom into a CAVE! Love it! Sorry, just had to repeat what others had said. :-)

RE: Looking for a Springfield, IL Campground

Look into Double J in nearby Chatham, IL. Springfield is home for me. While you're there, eat at D'arcy's Pint, and stop in the Apple Barn right near Double J for apples, baked goods, jams, etc.

RE: What not to miss in Savannah Ga.

Bonaventure Cemetery--stop at the office for a map and do some online research to find some of the most beautiful statuary ever! We also had a memorable lunch in a church, but I can't remember the name of the church! The pastor's wife did most of the cooking. If you go to yelp.com I'm sure you can find it. The crowd was half tourists and half locals on lunch break--wonderful Southern food!

RE: Collapsible bowls

We fulltime---love the three sizes of mixing bowls, also the measuring cups. I splurged on the dishrack and never, ever use it.

RE: New Snowbird Roost

I wonder if that's the parking lot for their shop? I Googled them, and got this : http://cherokeefarmsrvcenter.com/cs/Satellite?blobcol=urldocument&blobheader=application%2Fpdf&blobheadername1=Content-Disposition&blobheadervalue1=inline%3B+filename%3Dsite-map-fin.pdf&blobkey=id&blobtable=UXDocument&blobwhere=1301026651935&ssbinary=true It looks like a nice layout for a 45 site RV park.

RE: MCD Shade questions

Love ours! We fulltime, and had our duals installed at the factory in McKinney last April. One great benefit--they turn our bedroom into a cave! Really love that!

RE: good places to restock between tetons, yellowstone, glacier

We stayed a few days in Missoula, MT between Yellowstone and Glacier and found a really nice Safeway store. It was the nicest grocery store we've seen in a long, long time!

RE: Skidaway Island State Park, Savannah, GA

Loved it here! Interior roads are a bit tight for a 40 foot diesel pusher, but the sites are enormous. It's quiet and dark at night--thick with trees. Shower room was super. This is a special place!

RE: South Central Colorado Campgrounds

Wolf Creek Run in Pagosa Springs! Wolfcreekrun.net It's the first Class A only RV park we ever stayed at, but we had a hard time finding a place open in Colorado mid-May. We have never been made to feel so welcome in two years of fulltiming. Pricey, but worth it!
