RE: Windsurfing

Great video Rice! Enjoyed it very much, especially the John Hughes-Breakfast Club-style 80s music! Nice jibe, wish I could do one that smoothly. It's warmed up here recently-but of course with warmth comes no wind. Taking a couple summer classes right now so little time to sail.

RE: Windsurfing

Nice Pic Rice, is that from a gopro camera? Glad to see you guys are still having fun. Finishing up the semester--lotta work, but so far doing well. Wow, do I wish I could be sailing too. Anyway, great pic, want to see more! Have fun, Jeremy

Hey Wind Surfer, Nice pics. Glad you finally got some sustained wind.

RE: Windsurfing

Hi Aunt Jeanne and welcome to RV.net! Your nephew earned my everlasting respect a couple of years ago--he knew what I wanted but was sold out at the time. Instead or trying to sell me a board he knew I didn't want (quite a pricy purchase BTW), he recommended a few places to try at our next destination out West. A businessman with a soul is very rare these days. Will definitely pass along your "hello" next time I see Andy. Wind Surfer--we're shooting to arrive in Hatteras this weekend--preferably Saturday as wind looks increasingly good starting Sunday. Hope you're having a blast on the water today--windfinder is showing mid-20s gusting to 30.

RE: Windsurfing

Thanks Wind Surfer, that is quite reasonable. Good to know about the Cash requirement as well.

RE: Windsurfing

Just only take 2 out at a time, just make sure you rotate so no accidents in the RV!! LOL LOL :) That's exactly what we wind up doing at parks like Sands. Do you mind telling me the per night at Sands with Passport America? We're thinking of springing for a membership.

RE: Windsurfing

Yea, Andy's a good guy, but I agree prices--particularly sail prices- are outrageous. Full hook-ups are nice. I looked at Sands' website--$40/day plus it sounds like they might not welcome our 3 dogs--2 pet max policy. Thanks for the heads up about Ocracoke. We were in Hatteras last May and Moe and her son got stuck on Ocracoke for ~6 hours waiting for the tide--the ferryman's explanation was that wind direction was shallowing portions of the route. Hmm . . .gonna have to give all this some thought.

RE: Windsurfing

Sounds great Wind Surfer. How are you liking the Sands of Time? We normally stay at the Fed campground in Frisco, however, it closes October 8th--so for this trip either we go to Ocracoke after the 8th (Fed campground there stays open till the end of the month) or stay someplace like the Sands . . . Would rather not go to Ocracoke as that island doesn't try to control the mosquitoes like Hatteras does. What did you pick up for new equipment? Did you get it from Andy at "Wind" or someplace else?

RE: Windsurfing

Hey Wind Surfer, Not the wrong time of year at all--Hatteras usually starts blowing as we enter October. This year has been a pretty lame September, but hopefully it will start picking up. I am trying to get everything squared away here--classes and tests and father etc. . . .so we can head up to Hatteras next week--hopefully next Friday or Saturday for at least a week. Are you staying in the Federal campground at Frisco or a private campground? How long will you be there? Have you been to Canadian Hole (windsurfing spot--located on the sound side of a long isthmus between Avon and Buxton-- has a parking lot with showers/bathrooms)?

RE: Windsurfing

Sorry to hear about the car race. I've been watching the fires on the news. Luckily our house is not near any, but I do feel sorry for those effected. I always told my wife, if we ever buy a place in the mountains, the first thing I would do is cut at least a 100 yard no-tree fire buffer-zone around the house. Fires along the front range are just too prevalent to ignore/not prepare. Do let me know if you plan for Hattie. I spoke to my friend in Lafayette the other day. He's been sailing daily (god, retirement must be nice) at Union Reservoir just east of the town of Longmont, but I guess the last couple weeks haven't been so good. You might check Union out if the wind picks up--there is a campground that could easily accommodate your rig. It's not fancy, but it is a clean and well-maintained park (and only about 25 minutes north of Denver). Anyway, Gregg kept asking if we were headed Denver-way because he misses our summer trips to Hattie. Well, enjoy your stay in Denver, back to homework :(

RE: Windsurfing

Very nice pictures Rice and great write-up. Looks like a pleasant, low-key spot to relax. Finding all those deep spots still? ;) I do the same thing at Hatteras--wherever I hit the water, rest assured it's over-head. Are you still panning to head east Denver-way?

RE: Windsurfing

Let me know if your east coast tour reaches as far south as North Carolina. Perhaps I could arrange a few days off and meet you up at Hatteras? The winds are bit more fickle this time of year, but there is good sailing still to be had at the OBX (outer banks).

RE: Windsurfing

Hey Wind Surfer, Glad to hear you're still at it and doing well. Congrats to your daughter! Materials Engineering . . . I'm not quite sure what that is, but it sounds like a degree traditionally held by men? I have a niece studying architecture--I love how the new generation of women are busting into non-traditional careers. Getting a bigger Rig too, wow I'm envious! More room for windsurfing equipment? ;) Thanks for the encouragement about getting the RN. I tell you I feel kind of old walking around that school--one of my fellow students told me I remind her of Jimmy Buffet--I laughed and asked her if she knew how old Buffet was. Have a safe trip to Ohio, and I'd love to hear how you're enjoying your new home, Jeremy

RE: Windsurfing

Oh tres shiek! That does sound like fun for all. Let me know if you guys think about heading to Lake Hattie. I'll tell my buddy in Lafayette who helped me learn to sail-he loves Hattie too. Great guy--one of those "older" sailors like you were talking about earlier. Every time I fell, he would blast by asking me if I was alright or needed help. He just got back from Aruba the lucky stiff. Yes, I agree about the nursing profession. I must confess, I do miss teaching, however, classical scholars just aren't in demand. On the bright side, I find even the basic A&P courses (anatomy and physiology) fascinating. And the potential to travel or relocate to some place like umm . . .Key West is very alluring. Have a safe journey to Denver, Jeremy

RE: Windsurfing

Hey Rice, Glad to hear all is going well. It's funny, I thought about this thread just the other day but haven't had much time lately for personal "internetting." We are stationary back in SC looking after my dad. I have returned to school--thinking about getting an RN. Up to my eyeballs in those nasty science courses I so ardently avoided when getting my liberal arts degrees. We did get out to Hatteras for a few days in early May. Got to catch up with all my canuck buddies down at Canadian Hole. Several Key Westers showed up as well. Even had the opportunity to break out the 4.5 one afternoon. Trying to find the time to go again, but alas, here I sit studying. Where are you headed after Seattle?
