RE: broken water heater drain plug

Good stuff Dutch. You might also investigate those tools they sell at Lowes/HD for working on pvc lawn sprinkler systems. If a sprinkler head breaks off (like your plug) you insert this cone shaped tool with blades on the side and try to unscrew the broke off piece...

RE: Down Hill Towing w/Gas Engines

Yes, downshift to a lower gear. Is it tougher on the tranny? Not as tough as flying off the mountain road and crashing into the creek below...

RE: Buying First TT, How much do I offer???

Their cost is around $19,000....Do what you want but I would start at around $24,000 but if they look at you as if you were crazy, leave your phone number and walk out....they'll call you with a lower offer. I second that. Or, tell them 25k (including TTL and hitch) turnkey -out the door. See what they say. Fill out their info card. If they say no, tell them you are shopping around but let them know that you are going to buy a TT from somebody in the next few weeks or so. They will call you back later with a counter offer.

RE: Engine surging and then quits

Usually the big indicator that it's the ECM is: after letting the truck cool for 30-45 minutes, it runs fine for a while (like 30-45 minutes or more). The electronics on the ECM (namely the transistors) wear over time. As they warm up, they start to fail. When they cool off, they start working again...

RE: Going crazy hunting a leak

I think people have pressure tested their TTs by taping a box fan to the screen door or window, then spraying soapy water around and on top of the TT. Bubbles will start to form where there is a leak. Maybe someone will post with specifics...?

We like our Coleman 2-burner. Have used it for 5 years or so. Works good.

RE: Canadian flag in Florida?

Well, we are talkin' about Florida, which means you never can tell. I wouldn't think anybody would have a problem, but there's always the rogue redneck. But, better a Canadian flag than a Chinese one...! Seems like an ice-breaker to me. Everyone will see the flag, know you are from Canada, and walk up to you and state the obvious, "You from Canada...?":)

RE: gearbox problems

Well, I don't think it's a 4R100. I think there was one after that. Maybe somebody else knows...

You have an automatic transmission, not a gear box right?

What's that front bunk Dutchmen called?

We're looking at upgrading. A while back we looked at a Dutchmen that was about 27' and had front bunks that were segregated, a left and a right (bunk). I can't find it now. What model was I looking at and how do I find it? thanks!!!

RE: Any way to increase Ford 5.4 power?

I am not trying to turn the F250 into a street rod...I have a Corvette that fills that gap... Oh come on lets give the corvette a run for its money. Slip this 5.4 crate motor into the truck :B http://www.fordracingparts.com/images/part/250x250/M-6007-TVS.jpg 600hp, 550tq Yeah, 'cause it's already got the supercharger...so you're like money ahead...!:B

RE: Spoiler on pickup - does it help?

Unless you put a spoiler at the rear of the truck, in which case it will be worth 10-15 horsepower. Just ask the tuner guys...;)

RE: Any way to increase Ford 5.4 power?

Well, it might be in the "break the bank" category, but I think the only real way to increase power in that platform is a supercharger.

RE: Lake Whitney State Park

I second the above post. It's been a while. There are sites by the lake but they are not premium. I don't know how large an RV they will accept. The premium site loop has no view of the lake. Lots of wildlife though!! Lots of deer and turkey...

RE: F53 chassis running hot

I saw another post similar to this that had a couple of suggestions. One was that sometimes road grime builds up between the radiator, the A/C radiator (accumulator?) and the trans cooler. This restricts air flow through the radiator. Separate the 3 and flush with water or degreaser. Also, you can relocate trans cooler and maybe the A/C part away from the radiator to increase airflow. I think it is a bad idea to remove the thermostat. I believe that it needs to restrict the flow of coolant enough to let the radiator remove the heat from it. If it (the coolant) moves too quickly, it doesn't spend enough time in the radiator to cool off and you end up overheating. I did read where somebody drilled a series of 3/16" (I think) holes in a circular pattern on the thermostat itself and reinstalled it. The holes did increase coolant flow enough to solve the overheating problem.
