RE: Trip to Florida?

I would have to beg to differ with rede2travel about Cedar Key and their clam chowder. We were in Cedar Key in 2011 when Tony's Seafood Restaurant was voted the world's best clam chowder. There may not be much in Cedar Key but there is Tony's Clam chowder!!!

RE: Trip to Florida?

We did a tour of FL a few years ago and some of the places we visited were Ft. Lauderdale, Amelia Island, and Cedar Key. In Ft. Lauderdale we stayed at one of the county parks there, which was pretty and had nice large secluded sites. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of it. Fort Clinch State Park on Amelia Island is a popular spot. They have beach camping but I wouldn't recommend it. We stayed in one of the shadier sites. In Cedar Key we stayed at a small campground called Cedar Key Hideaway. They only have 4 and a half camping spots. Sites are pull in with a view of the water. Hopefully Cindy and Pat (Campground Managers) are still there!! There is a lot of small town charm in this little town and the clam chowder is to die for.

RE: RV Clubs

The Works, I think it depends on your situation. For us, we only belong to Good Sam and are former members of FMCA. My partner is a travel nurse and we move every 3- to 6-months with his job. The only time we would use a discounted campground would be between contracts. For us it wouldn't be beneficial for us since we would only use the service at most a few times a year. Most of the campgrounds we use don't allow you discounted rates for long term stays. So you have to evaluate how you plan on using the services of the clubs that offer the discounted campgrounds. We continue our membership with Good Sam for the forums. Whenever we have a technical issue, we can always find solutions from other members. The workamping forum is also a favorite for me as well, which helps us to absorb some of our camping fees. Long story short, consider how you plan on using the club. I wouldn't just consider the discounted campgrounds but the other benefits as well.

RE: campgrounds around Atlanta other than Stone Mountain

The name of the park is Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort and the address is 1031 Wylie Rd SE, Marietta, GA. The phone number is (770) 427-6853. It is not the best of parks but will do in a pinch.

RE: San Jose Camp Host Opportunities

Thanks for the replies. I may have an opportunity lined up with one of the county parks. It's a volunteer opportunity but that's fine too.

RE: campgrounds around Atlanta other than Stone Mountain

There are slim pickings in the Atlanta area. There is a campground in Marietta but the spots are tight and the manager a few years ago was one of the rudest person I have met before. There is a small campground outside of Stone Mountain Park called Stone Mountain Heights. It is a mobile home Park that has some RV spots. It is family owned, not too far from Walmart and other shopping, and there are restaurants near by for a quick bite to eat. We stayed there as we transitioned to full timing and it wasn't that bad. You may want to check out some of the State parks along your route. We have stayed at Tugaloo and Hart state parks which are along I85 near the South Caroline state line. Keep in mind they don't have any sewer connections but may not be bad for a one night stop over. Just a suggestion,

Does anyone have any camp host opportunity leads in the San Jose area? Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Shower Wall Caulking

Based on what others have posted it seems as though there is no need to caulk around the shower pan, but there is a need to caulk around the glass surround. Is there a caulk that anyone would recommend for this job? I also need to recaulk around the hot/cold handles in the shower.

RE: Vegas Area

Not sure when you are going to Vegas, but I would highly recommend Oasis or Las Vegas Motorcoach (LVM) Resort. We stayed at Oasis about 3 years ago and at LVM in June. LVM has outdoor kitchen areas, 5 pools, and tennis courts. Very upscale....

RE: Disney's FW surprise

Fort Wilderness is GREAT! We stayed there a few years ago a few weeks before Christmas. Didn't have to use the car to go anywhere. The trams took us wherever we needed to go within the park. The campsites were well shaded and had large concrete patios. We had nice water pressure, and our site was separated from the next site by greenery. There are a lot of pine trees, so you may have a few tar drops. Enjoy your trip...

RE: Newbie KOA ques

I think it will also depend on when you are planning to visit the KOA. During the week, you will more than likely find the seclusion and quiet time that you may want. Kids are starting to go back to school now so, the campground may be less crowded.

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Replaced 3 halogen bulbs with LEDs. Put Foil in the front windshield to keep some of the heat out.

RE: Damon Challenger

I have an 09 Challenger and have had issues with it since we purchased it about 3 yrs ago. First it was our shower. We had in the repair shop, at least once every other month for repairs on the shower. Thor sent a driver down and took it to the main shop in Elkhart, IN to repair the problem. One would have thought, they would have gotten it right there, right? Wrong!!! It came back with the same problem and we were made to feel like the villain. Of course, this was still under warranty because we had created a paper trail in the beginning. If it's out of warranty, don't bother calling Damon. They are rude and unwilling to help in any way. Called about our compartment doors, which have rust spots forming underneath the paint. I can understand if it is happening with just one door, but no this is happening on at least 4 compartment doors. When I called, Pat informed me that it was not his issue and for all he knew I could have been driving through a salt mine. Then when I tried explaining to him about the driver side fender, he cut me off and stated anything dealing with bodywork is not their responsibility if its out of warranty. We will never purchase another Damon/Thor product!!!! EVER!!! Good Luck with your issue. I hope you have better luck than we did.

Oven Pilot Light

When we are not using the oven we turn off the oven's pilot light. Is it ok to leave the oven pilot light lit when the oven is not in use?

RE: Workamping in Bakersfield, CA

Cabo Paul, I tried the Bakersfield RV Resort and a few others but no luck. From my understanding, most of the campgrounds in Bakersfield are fairly small and require minimal staffing. I guess I will have to pursue other options.

RE: Workamping in Bakersfield, CA

Thanks everyone for the posts. I need something in Bakersfield because my partner, who is a travel nurse, just got a 13 wk contract there. I would prefer working at the campground that we stay. Altern, we lived in Atlanta, GA for 9.5 yrs and there were days we had smog problems as well. toyqt, Mendocino Coast is a bit too far. My partner will be working at Bakersfield Memorial.

Workamping in Bakersfield, CA

I am enroute to Bakersfield, CA and was wondering if anyone has any information on workamping opportunities or campground connections in the area? Opportunities in the vicinity of Bakersfield Memorial would be great. I have KOA experience, excellent customer service skills, and I am a self starter. Thanks in advance,

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Today we had the RV washed and waxed. We had the roof cleaned and treated as well. We went to Camping World and bought new wiper blades, and generator oil and filter.
