RE: Coverage Question

And you would put the spare on at no cost regardless of which level of Roadside Service you have purchased?

RE: Phoenix to and around Utah

Just north of Paige UT, you'll want to allow a bunch of time to visit Zion; red rock area around Byrce Canyon; Kodachrome Basin State Park; Capitol Reef; and the slot canyons between CR and Kodachrome. Also, you could spend a lot of time around Moab - particularly if you enjoy hiking; mtn biking, 4 wheeling or horseback riding. Southern Utah is just wonderful.

RE: Missoula to Boise

Thanks everyone. I'll wait on Mother Nature's input at the time before I make a decision.

Missoula to Boise

During the 3rd week of April I will be pulling the 5er from Missoula to Boise. Mapquest recommends US 12 over Lolo Pass to ID 13 and then US 95 south. Assuming no freak spring storms, is this a good route or is there a better route? I don't mind two lane highways and have pulled over Lolo Pass before. Just don't know the rest of the route. What do you think?

RE: Lost Creek State Park, Montana

I have not been to this park. However, I too would recommend Lewis & Clark Caverns SP. Nice campground with showers; the caverns are a couple miles off the highway, but definitely worth going through. If you're into fishing, the campground across a farm field from a nice trout stream.

RE: Estes RV Park, Coastal Oaks and Drifters, Rockport, TX

We stayed at Drifters for two months last winter. We really enjoyed the park. It was well kept, clean and there were lots of activities. We drove through many of the other parks in the area and defonitely felt Drifters was the best. If we were going back to the area we'd definitely stay there again.

RE: Montana To Arizona

Check out the webcam on Monida Pass to see what the road conditions are there. Certainly possible there will be snow from Dillon on south - just depends on the whims of nature. Be safe.

RE: Bear Spray: Should I buy some for Yellowstone?

I strongly recommend bear spray. It's an inexpensive insurance. Noise helps, for sure; but usually when there is a bear encounter it's when someone goes around a bend in the trail and surprises the bear (with or without cubs). Do not take Grizzlies lightly; but you're very unlikely to have an encounter. If you do, you'll need access to your spray quickly. You asked about whether one canister is enough. Should be - if your group always stays together. If not, then multiple cans would be recommended. Have fun. And, don't let any of your party read "Night of the Grizzly" until after the trip.

RE: 9 Mile Remount West of Lolo, Montana

I should clarify - there may a Remount Station west of Lolo as the original posts indicated. I am only familiar with the Remount Station near Alberton. Hope I didn't provide you with confusing info.

RE: Volunteer needed, Whitefish, MT

I don't know how the working conditions are at Whitefish SP; but I can tell you it's a very pretty location. The campground sits right on Whitefish Lake. There's a boat ramp and beach area. Fairly small campground with fantastic views of the lake and surrounding mtns. The park is only a mile or two from Whitefish - a resort town with great eateries and activities. My guess is this would be a wonderful gig. If I didn't live in the area, I'd definitely apply.

RE: 9 Mile Remount West of Lolo, Montana

25 years ago I lived next to the Remount Station. First, it's just off I-90 close to Alberton - not Lolo (if we're talking about the same place). It's about 25 miles west of Missoula. It's a very pretty area with lots of places to hike. I am assuming the CCC campground is what was the day use area 25 years ago. I actually got married there! I don't know what it's like to volunteer there - but it would be a great location to spend time. Back in the day, the Nine Mile House restaurant was a good place to eat. You'll have fun there.

RE: Oregon to Montana in Sept vacation advice on were to go!

Agree with the prior posts. What activities do you enjoy? What level of camping - rustic or FHU? Want to spend time in towns or mountain settings. If you like to bike, the Hiawatha Trail is great (MT Exit 5) on I 90. There's a nice forest service campground another exit or two further east. Going north and east of Missoula, US 12 and MT 83 provide many recreational options - wonderful campgrounds on mtn lakes and beautiful scenery. Obviously Glacier NationalPark is a must visit. Missoula,Kalispell, Big Fork and Whitefish offer shops, restaurant and motel options. There are lots of recreational opportunities in western Montana. I'm ready for warm weather so I can get back out there.

RE: Montana (western mostly)

Hey Jack. What do you like to do? Hike? Flyfish? Lake fishing? Boating/canoeing/kayaking? A little info on your expectations would be helpful. Montana has a lot to offer. Great place for the outdoorsman.

Spring time on Oregon Coast

I am planning to spend several weeks on the southern Oregon coast in either May or June. I can easily enough find stats on average temps and rainfall. However, one of the concerns I have seen posted regarding that time of the year is the mosquito population. Can anyone tell me how bad the mosquitoes will likely be during May and June. I would like to camp along the coast between Brookings and Coos Bay. Any thoughts?

RE: Looking for campground in northern Ohio open after Nov. 1

I posted this on another blog a minute ago. It may work for you: I do not normally stay at KOAs, but a couple of years ago I visited family in Toledo and stayed at the KOA in Stony Ridge OH. As I remember it was just a mile or two east of I-75 and maybe 10 miles south of downtown Toledo. It provided FHUs, was quiet and close to the relatives. If you're looking for something on the south side of Toledo and are not looking for a state park setting, this should work well for you. Their phone is 419-837-6848.

RE: What CG is your favorite between Carlsbad and San Antonio?

I was really impressed with S. Llano River State Park in Junction TX. Nice campground, trails, river/swimming, kayaking, and birding. The KOA in Junction looked nice from the roadway but we didn't stay there.

RE: Rockport Rv parks

I spent Jan and Feb at Drifters RV in Rockport last winter. I was impressed with the park and the people there. While in Rockport I drove through many other parks to see what they were like. In my opinion, Drifters was the nicest one. They had nice, clean facilities; lots of activities; and they were reasonably priced. If I were going back to the area, I would definitely stay at Drifters.

RE: Farragut St Park ID

It's been several years, but I was really impressed with the park. Very pretty, nice campsites and the lake was impressive. Also, if you've got kids with you, it's close to Silverwood Amusement Park. If you can get in, you'll have a wonderful time.

Monthly Rental

Rather than pulling the 5er south this winter, I am considering staying home for the first half of the winter and then starting about Jan 15th, renting a cabin or house for a couple of months. Would prefer spend a month somewhere near Colorado Springs or Ft Collins; and a month in Prescott/Phoenix areas. Any thoughts on how to find monthly rentals in those areas?
