RE: Never again Directv rant

Directv lost approx 40% of their business by dropping Versus because of the Pro Bull rider fans and other specific sports that counted on the channel. Can you verify this statement?
There's been some grumbling on some of the satellite forums, but that's it. Losing over 7 million subscribers would be big news.

RE: Never again Directv rant

Unless you buy the HR21 Pro DVR, which costs around $400, all Directv receivers have been considered leased since March 2006.
Versus is owned by Comcast and they could not reach an agreement with Directv over the cost.

RE: DirecTV...What Satellite Number do I Use?

Aim for either one of the two listed for 101 Directv. That should work. The elevation is the same for both, and the azimuth is very close..

RE: Searching for Satellite Input Problem

The RV is sitting at my house. I am using the same azimuth/elevation that the house disk is using. So, I think it is pointing in the right direction.
I am getting some signal strength bars on SOME transponders, but not most. I am getting some signal on my analog meter.
I wonder if I am pointing at the right sat.? Are they close together?
What transponders are you seeing signals on? And how high are those signal levels?
On the 101 satellite, you should see signals on nearly all of 32 transponders. There may be one or two you won't see a signal on. This will be the satellite you want.
On the 110 satellite you'll see signals on 8, 10 and 12.
On 119 you'll see signals on most of the transponders from 22 through 32. Again, there's one or two of those you may not see a signal.

RE: directv hd question

I have checked my home system and it looks like the SL5 with three coax cables running from the lnb. How would I go about hooking those three cables up to the one HD reciever? I am really confused now.
As wilanddij said, if it's a receiver, you only need to hook up one cable. The four outputs from the dish are the same. We're using two of the four cables to feed a HD DVR with two tuners. A third cable is being used to feed a SD receiver. The fourth one is not being used.

I agree about Goodsol. I've played their Solitaire Games for several years.
You mentioned crossword puzzles. The Houston Chronicle has crossword puzzles you can download and work on later. They usually have 15 or 16 at a time and add a new one each day. It requires the Across Lite Player.

RE: 3 LNB HD Antenna

Dies this look like what you're describing?
Directv AU9
If that's it, it's the 5 LNB AU9 for the 99, 101, 103, 110 and 119 satellites. Underneath what you describe as a traffic light may be a label that says AU9. At least there's a label on mine.
If that's what it is, I used it for watching SD from the 101 and 119 satellites before we got the HD.
On the link I gave you, under Product Documentation is a link to an Installation Manual.
The manual that Matt sent you looks like it's for the Dish for the 101, 110 and 119 satellites.

RE: Will DVR work without satellites?

Yes you can.
Now, there are a couple of sites that give you the instructions to install a massive hard drive in your TIVO box. You might want to look into that and then you could have literally hundreds and hundreds of hours of programming.
Do you know the URLs for those web sites? :@
This company has a very good reputation. You can do it yourself or they'll do it for you. They also have a forum.

RE: How to connect computer to DirecTV DVR?

From the Directv web site. They recommend a internet connection of 2 Mbps or faster, a minimum of 750 Kbps.

What city do you get your SD locals from? It's possible they're on the 119 satellite. What type of dish are you using?

RE: Getting 93 signal on even and 86 on odd but no TV

First are you using DISH or Dierct? More than likely you are on the wrong satellite. Both DISH and Direct satelites are at 110 and 119, bur are at different elevations.
Mike
Satellites 110 and 119 for Dish and Directv at the same location and elevation.
In fact I think they're both using the same satellites. Dish uses most of the transponders and Directv uses the rest.

RE: DVR Recorder - TIVO?

This thread rekindled my interest in getting a DVR that would handle over-the-air (OTA) and cable signals. We have a standard def DircTV DVR and love it. We also have TiVO at home and love it. We do not watch live TV.
What I am looking for is a DVR that can be used to record OTA signals IN HD for the times that trees block a satellite signal and even the tripod does not work.
I've surfed a lot, including the AVS forums, Newegg, Crutchfield, Best Buy etc, and it appears that there are no OTA HD DVRs other than TiVO. There are plenty that are standard def.
Am I missing something? Thanks.
(PS: hope this is not considered off topic...I think it complements the OP's question.)
The Directv AM21 Off Air Tuner can be used with the HR21, HR22 and HR23 HD DVRs.

RE: TIVO digital video recorder

Can you burn a DVD of something you've recorded on the TIVO?
Do a Google search for TIVO DVD burning. It looks like it can be done.
There seems to be quite a bit on it.
There's a refurbished HUMAX DTR400 TIVO with a integrated DVR Recorder
here.

RE: TIVO digital video recorder

Is the lifetime option for the life of the piece of hardware?
Yes.
Our son has one we used before we upgraded to a Directv with TIVO several years ago. That TIVO is still working with the original hard drive. I bought the lifetime for it.
I forget how old it it. My guess is it's about ten years old. So the Lifetime has paid for itself two or three times.
We bought the Lifetime for the Directv with TIVO and used it for 4 years before going with a Directv HR23-700. We were able to transfer the Lifetime to the HR23-700.
The main thing that's going to fail is the hard drive. If that happens, there's a company called Weaknees that has a good reputation and can replace the hard drive if it fails.
Because of the endless commercials, without TIVO, I probably would have given up on television years ago.

RE: Need Help From A Real DirecTV Expert

It looks like you're picking up the Directv satellite at 119. Directv uses just those transponders on that satellite. You need to look a little bit to the east for the 101 satellite.

RE: Few ?s on adding DVR to DirecTV?

The TIVO that is being sold now does not work with Directv. It's only for cable or an antenna.
Directv and TIVO is supposed to have a DVR available within the next year, but it will probably be expensive at first.
For a while, the Directv web site had the HD DVR for a leased price of $99. Looks like it back up to to $199 now.

RE: DirecTv satellite aiming (local channels)

Your locals are probably on the 72.5 satellite which is going to be located to the south east.
This link Dishpointer will help you.
Enter the zip code where your cabin is located and the satellite you're looking for, which is the 72.5W Direct1R/Echostar satellite. Then click on Go.

RE: DirecTV suddenly will not allow service address change

"I hope that means that a program that came on at 7:00 PM Eastern would come on at 7:00 PM Mountain if we had DNS and set the receiver to Mountain Time zone."
If you have DNS and the New York locals, a program that comes on at 7:00 PM Eastern on one of the NY stations, is going to be on at 5:00 PM Mountain.
