RE: Tripod brace for 5th wheel...really necessary?

We had been carrying our tripod around for about nine years still in the unopened box. Tried to sell it at a yard sale last week with no luck. Donated it to Good Will, thank goodness it is gone.

RE: I 64 from Outer Banks to Illinois

I64 is just fine for towing. We tow our 5th wheel through that area almost every year.

RE: Any recommended RV park or campground around Joplin Missouri

We have stayed at the Coachlight RV Park a couple if times. You have to be self contained as they have no bathhouse if ai am remembering correctly but there is a laundry though. For us, it was just a stop over but we thought it was priced decently and very neat and clean. Easy on/off the interstate and sites were mostly big pull throughs.

RE: Translation Tables for Convection/Microwave Cooking?

I have found that some things take longer with my convection oven and some things take less time. I just baked a coconut pie and it took 10 minutes longer. I would get a good oven thermometer and see just now accurate your convection oven is. Mine is 50 degrees cooler than the set temperature. By the way, we are on our 3rd Dometic convection/microwave in less than 18 months, all replaced under warranty. One would not even get close to temperature, one just stopped working during convection preheat, and this one seems to be hanging in there for the moment. If it fails after the warranty expires, we will be getting a different brand. You do not get a new warranty period from Dometic when you get a new convection/microwave. The warranty is based on the original install. After complaining loudly, we were able to get the warranty extended by a year.

RE: First Trip - Memphis & Nashville: how to split the time

If you stay at one of the campgrounds in Music Valley near the Grand Ole Opry, you can get a round trip shuttle into downtown Nashville. That is part if the fun of Nashville. Going to the bars, drinking your favorite libation, and listening to some really great country music.

RE: Finding Past Owner

We have had a service person/dealer call us and ask us if we minded if we were contacted. We have said yes to some things and no to others.

RE: We Took Your Advice Ordered a Dually

The truck has never regened, Why is that so difficult for you to believe?

RE: We Took Your Advice Ordered a Dually

No it has never regened and probably will not according to Dodge because of the type of driving that we do. We are full timers and our truck is our daily drive.

RE: We Took Your Advice Ordered a Dually

ST LOUIS TRIP

Thanks to all for your suggestions for things to do in St Louis. We stayed at Casino Queen and it is a safe, convenient place to stay at a good price. Lots of security so no safety issues. We visited the zoo and the only negatives were all the people paying for parking with credit cards which really made a mess of traffic and there were lots of rude children that would actually shove us out of the way to get to what they wanted. We did not let that bother us and enjoyed a beautiful day at the zoo. We toured the Arch, took in a Cardinals game, and the best spent money was a tour of Busch Stadium. We ate at Highway 61 Roadhouse that was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and the food was mediocre so don't waste your money going there. We rode the Metro Link from the Casino into the city and it was easy to use. Unfortunately we had several days of heavy rain which impacted our site seeing. We hope to go back some time in the future to see so e of the things we missed. Thanks for all the tips.

RE: Jacksonville, Fl. Traffic ?

We usually go straight through. We find the same amount of traffic going on the by pass as going through Jacksonville. Lots of truck traffic on the by pass.

RE: St. Louis Mo camp ground

It depends what type of site you need and the weekly rate is much cheaper than the daily rate. We are in a large site and are paying $35 per night with the weekly rate. That is pretty darned reasonable when you consider how expensive even state parks are nowadays. Some people park their long 5th wheels in the smaller sites and then park their tow vehicle on the gravel that is between the sites. Almost everyone has their lawn chairs and grills out too. We feel completely safe here. We did not venture anywhere else in East St Louis even during the daylight hours.

RE: St. Louis Mo camp ground

We are currently staying at Casino Queen. The campground is not fancy, just really a black topped parking lot with hook ups. There are two sections, the smaller sites have a few trees, the large sites are out in the open. The campground is close to the interstate and there is lots of train traffic. However, the trains are moving very slowly so once the engines are past, the noise it really not noticeable. There is a really nice grassy area with covered picnic tables and a children's play area and there were some kids out there playing. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We drove to the zoo. Parking is $15 and they take credit cards for the parking. It backs up traffic terribly with all those long credit card transactions. We took the Metro Link to Busch Stadium for a tour, one of the best $10 we spent (per person) and we also took the Metro Link to the Arch. We did not feel unsafe in any way. The Casino has a free shuttle to take you to/from the game. You can call or flag down Security from the campground and they will pick you up and take you to the Metro Link station or the Casino. The advertised mini mart for the campground sells mostly alcohol. Just follow the directions carefully and you will not have trouble finding the Casino. The state park is fine but is is far away from the attractions you will want to visit and parking is pretty darned expensive. We will stay here the next time we want to see a Cardinals game.

RE: Virginia State Parks and dogs

Virginia State Parks are pretty expensive, more than you can pay for a private campground. However, they are very nice. Lived in Virginia for 20 years and still stop into one of our favorites, Pocahontas State Park, when we are in the area. The previous post stated that the number one complaint was barking dogs, not piles of poop. A constantly barking dog can ruin a camping outing.

RE: Campgrounds in Pittsburgh

We feel that both the Madison and Washington KOAs are terrible and so so expensive. The sites are narrow and unlevel with lots of seasonals. Now, if we have to be in the area, we stay at Fox Den in Staunton. Just our opinion.

RE: Biodiesel fuel vs Diesel # 2

Dodge only warranties their 2012 and older trucks for 5% bio diesel. Since our truck is still under warranty, we will not be using bio diesel.

RE: Newbie headed to Nashville

We stay at the Nashville KOA. It is by far the most expensive campground we have stayed at. The good thing is that if you stay at any of the three campgrounds near the Opy Hotel (they are all in a row) you can have a shuttle pick you up and drive you to downtown Nashville. Thst is important to us since we have a big dually. We love Nashville and will probably return every year when we travel south. Andrew Jackson's home, The Hermitage, is in the Nashville area. Not sure if that is something your kids would enjoy though.

RE: Leaving grey tanks open?

We leave ours closed. We own a piece of property in a small town and the sewer and storm drains run together. We have had several instances where the water backed up due to heavy rain and would have backed up Into the gray tanks if they had been open. The back flowing water actually moved the sewer hose off the slinky (the tank valves were closed thank goodness). We now remedy that by leaving open a sewer clean out so the storm water can flow out instead of back up into our tanks.
