RE: Big Bend National Park - Can we take our dog?

At the risk of being flamed, I'd like to say that I hope never find myself camped next to you if you leave your dogs alone in the RV while you're out touring. That is very inconsiderate towards your neighbors who, instead of a peaceful day sitting out reading, have to listen to the yapping of your dog. I know, I know - YOUR little pooch never barks when left alone. I'm curious, though: how do you know that? We've been stuck in the situation I describe too many times. Please think of your camping neighbors.
Ted H.
You seem to be making an assumption that all dogs left alone bark all day. I'm curious How do you know that!

RE: rv park permanebt anchor procedures

Atlantic hurricane season is from June 1 to November 30 - 97% of tropical storms occur within that range, and 96% of major hurricanes in the Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico occur between the first of August and the end of October.
You really shouldn't have to worry about hurricanes over the winter.
That being said, as a lifetime resident of the gulf coast who has been through over a half dozen major hurricanes, I want to emphasize what others have already said - the only way to protect your RV is to haul it away from the path of the storm.
Years ago, I had an employee who used anchors and straps to tie down his new mobile home before hurricane Celia hit Corpus Christi. After the storm, he had the only home still standing in the mobile home park, but it still had to be totalled. Every wall, every stud and joist in the thing was twisted.
I lived in Corpus Christi (born and raised) when Celia came in and helped a friend tie his new mobile home down, he had the straps and tie downs already so we also used some 3/8 inch chain with more anchors. After the storm all that was left was the anchors and the chain--the chain had been stretched and was rigid as a board. This was on South Padre Island Drive toward the island (past Airline)
If at all possible move it out inland if storm is forcast.

RE: Dolly Towing (can you tow anything?)

Can you use a dolly to tow any kind of vehichle that can't be towed 4 down? My wife is getting a VW Jetta and it would make a great toad. It is a front wheel drive car.
We tow a 06 TDI Jetta on a tow dolly and I had to cut some 2x8's to fit the ramps so that the lower air dam would clear until the wheel reaches the tire well. No problem just alittle added time to place and remove the wood.
Good luck

RE: Satellite Receiver Installation in Motor Home

We use the two channel receiver in the MH but I use a portable dish 500 and also disconnect the control box in MH and run coax directly to the receiver.
Good luck,

RE: How to ID type of plastic of waste tanks

Plastic welding is a fairly easy process if you can correctly ID the material. You can buy a plastic welder fairly cheap also. I used to repair our kayaks and got pretty good pretty fast.
Good luck,

RE: One last time.....

GO!....definitely go!
The chores aren't going anywhere.
There are so many things I wish
I had taken the time for with my children,
but missed because of work....
and now I can never get those times back...
memories I never made.
I can really relate to this!!!
How come you haven't left yet.
I now make memories with my grandkids that I wish I had also done with my kids more.

RE: Pic of my 08 Freightliner Chassis: do U know what's this?

It's hard to tell from the picture but it appears to be some sort of idler linkage for your steering. The crookedness is normal for the type of joint it is.

RE: Capacitor rip off

I had the same incident with relays (needed two- one for stop lights and one for running lights) went to auto parts store and electronic supply house and they wanted more than $20 for a $2 relay. Started looking on line and found the same brand and part# for $1.95. Bought 12 and replaced all the relays and still paid about what they wanted for one.

RE: Thank You, Father

On this special day, Veterans Day USA and Remembrance Day Canada, I would just like to post a comment of recognition.
My father served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in his younger years. Amongst his years of service to our country and fellow man included flying as navigator on bomber planes in WW2. This was a very dangerous position but he very willingly and proudly served our country without consideration for his own personal safety.
Many of his comrades were shot down and killed.
My father was just one of many thousands of MEN who stood up and fought for all the freedoms that we enjoy today. Many people take it for granted, especially todays youth.
People like me are free to hook up our RV's and roam the country as we please because of people like my father and many of you people on this forum, or your father who too, served in the military.
Freedom is not free. It never has been and it never will be.
After dodging bullets and missiles while hurtling through the air in a cumbersome aircraft and surviving, my fathers life was sadly snuffed out by a careless driver on the highway that crossed the center line in a hurry to pass a truck. The head on collision killed he and my step-mom instantly. That was in 1994. What a way to go after surviving a World War.
Today, as November 11 rolls by the calender again, I will never forget the sacrifice of the brave men and women who stood up for our freedom. I repeat, Freedom is not free. It never has been and never will be.
Dad, you and your kind are special men. I will always love you.
Thank You, Father.
BobsYourUncle,

RE: headlights

Well. the reason the headlights come on (often at reduced power) when the ignition is on is called Daytime Running Lights.
Several studies have been done which prove, beyond a doubt that running with lights on is way safer than without. So My advice is to leave excellent alone and don't turn them off.
I have read all the arguments against DRL's and so have the enginneers at GM
I (and they) remain convinced that is is way safer to run lights ON for safety!
I also think DRL's are a good safety feature--but I also think that after working for Chevrolet for alot of years--that the engineers need to get out in the real world sometimes. Case in point--just changed the heater core on BIL truck (99Chevy) you have to remove the WHOLE dash to replace it, that means everything, GM actually pays there techs warranty time of 10 hours. They know the heater core will fail at some point, why not make provisions to remove it, would be pretty simple to put an access in the housing.
Rant over

RE: Televison Fell out

If this TV was mounted above the drivers side dash, then Monaco had issued a TSB and instructions to add better brackets from your year model, because of the danger. Doug
Doug is there website to look up Monaco's TSB's?

RE: Changing my fuel filter

My cummins maunal says to prefill the filters as does the instructions on the side of the fleetguard filters, I then turn the key to the on position until the pump quits (about 25 seconds) then off and repeat three times, crank engine and always starts right up and then check filters for any leaks.

RE: To Winterize or Not To Winterize That Is The Question

Never thought about a higher air pressure, but it sounds reasonable as long as there is faucet open so there is no build up of pressure in the lines. The air pressure is just traveling through the lines with no pressure build up. Think I might try it out.

RE: Any damage towing an automatic in neutral?

If you put a Chevy S-10 4WD automatic transfer case in neutral, and then put the gearshift in neutral, would the S-10 suffer any transmission damage or create a drag on the motorhome over a long trip? Thanks all you experts!
Would really help to know what year model(s) you are talking about.

RE: Can you recommend a PPL salesperson for me?

Don't miss the American Coaches presently on the lot. There are some sweet looking Eagles, Dreams and Traditions if memory serves.
PPL is a very low key place, you sign in and roam around without an escort.
Take your time and have a ball. Read your blog and I think that you will find some nice candidates for consideration at PPL.

As stated above--if you find something your interested in--you will have to go back in and find a sales person--sorry can't remember ours name, not at home right now or I would go look it up.
Good luck,
