RE: i got a new toad/toy

What some of the guys that run with my son do is make it look reasonable for the road and throws some old out of state plates on it. Most police will not hassle you because it has plates on, if you don't abuse the road us and they don't know what is street legal in the state of the plate. If they do get stopped they get a ticket for an unlicensed vehicle.
Jim...
i actually have a title and the vin. i can plate it easy. i would never drive something without insurance or plates, thats a big ticket:B.
you would be amazed what we can get away with here in michigan.
during dream cruise week i have literally seen funny cars roll down woodward. a friend of mine drives a chevy k30 with about 16 inches of lift on 44 inch swampers quite often. we are super lax unles you drive like and idiot.

RE: HELP!! Looking at new camper...need advice asap!

i carry a similar camper on an f250, it rides pretty good. i tow alot too and run extremely overweight(17k). i get about as heavy and any 3/4 ton guy on here. i would not do it with a 1/2 ton, sorry.
the 3/4 ton and 1 ton fords are basically the same truck. the 1/2 ton is a totally different truck, it just should not haul a full size hard side tc.
a palimino, four wheel, or six pack sure.
trade the truck off on something more suited to what you need.
good luck

RE: A long box camper (9.5ft.) on a short box truck (6.5ft)

i got an 8.6 in a short bed. ive never seen anything bigger in a short bed. mine was made for a short bed. see if there is a center of gravity mark on your camper. if its in front of the rear axle you should be ok. the cog is what is important. if you get set up with something soon, we are having a get together of tc's over by cedar point. its a nice crowd.
good luck

RE: i got a new toad/toy

A spool and full hydo steering on the street? No thanks. I'd keep it the trailer queen it is and take it to the Hammers right away.
i was surprised. it has no sway bars either. it handles better than i though it would. chirps around corners a little. some lean in the corners, but less than i expected. the hydro steer takes some getting used to, but its effortless. one finger sttering with 42's.
ive had it up to about 40mph on the street without issue. it has driven all over drummond island at speeds up to 70mph. unfortunately the hammers is too far. plenty of places to wheel in michigan though. it is a true trailer queen no matter what. it would be nice to be able to drive it from one trail to the next with out worry though. or take a short ride on a friday night. i got most of the parts to make it legal, just gotta get off my behind and do it. it will be on the trail in the next couple weeks for a shakedown run.

i could not sleep with an onan running in my tc. so i guess it would be cheap for me. i could run my honda outside pretty cheap though.

RE: Truck Camping Mileage

you cant take the motel with ya to stop to make a sandwich, or use your own restroom. with the window sticker on a new truck and new camper together at 60k or more, im not sure it can ever become cost effective. you play you pay!
no matter what i use to tow my snowmobiles or my jeep im not gonna get good mpg's.

i got a new toad/toy

im trying to make it look more street legal, so a few times a year i can actually drive it on road. i have alot of body parts to add. brand new dealership 4.0L c.o.p. FI crate engine(very low hours). ford t18 trans w/6.32 to 1 1st gear. dana 300 t-case w/lomax 4 to 1 gear set. sway away racerunner coil overs all around, emulsion rear remote front. high pinion dana 60 front w/5.38 gears and a detroit locker w/4340 shafts. low pinion dana 60 rear w/moser shafts and a spool. 3 link front w/heims, 4 link rear w/heims. rear upper links and front tierod are solid 7071 aluminium threaded for 7/8 heims. 4 wheel disc brakes. full hydro steering w/removable steering wheel. 5 point rjs racing harnesses. 14/42/15 swamper iroks glued to 8 inch wagon wheels. warn m8274-50 w/amsteel blue synth line. its fully boatsided with 1/8 inch diamond plate. floors are raised about 5 inches. there is about 4 ft of frame left in it otherwise its full tube cage. it needs a little body work, but runs sweet!

bring anything for potluck. it will be crazy anyway. last time we could have fed 50 people easy, too bad there was only 12 of us. bring one thing thats easy.
a salad, brat, dogs, chips, ect.... a desert is always good too?
looks like we gotta do brakes on the superduty b4 we go.

RE: Dually VS SRW....I was in Horror Driving my SRW Truck

i would not put a 4500lb camper in the class of a lightweight one. i would not put it on a srw truck either. my 2300lb camper is fine in my srw truck though. my camper weight sticker says 1910lbs. its about 2300lbs when loaded lightly for a weekend excursion.
you did the right thing in getting more truck. you should have researched more b4 you bought that camper. i bet you dont make that mistake again! live and learn i guess.
