RE: towing rpm

If this is an early 04, try running with the T/H off. This will allow it to drop into 4th and would probably net you some fuel economy. Save T/H (OD lockout) for the hills.
The 04.5+ T/H allowed 4th gear operation, but 04 and older was an OD lockout feature. I don't know the specs on your FW but would at least try to pull it in OD.With reguard to the t/h mode, if I push the button I run the ops' rpm. I put my '04.5 in D and go. I very seldom push the button. I generally run 1800 rpm on the interstate with very little down shifting and 55 mph on other roads.

RE: Cleaning the outside of trailer

I need something I can hook to the hose and spray the trailer. My problem is that the ground around my trailer is very unlevel and I am leary of getting on a ladder to use the brush. My trailer is very tall also. It is 12 foot from ground to highest point.I use a brush that has a handle that extends that I inherited from my Dad. Not sure where he got it. No ladder needed.

RE: Anyone care to place their bet?

I would imagine once the new Ram hits the lot there will be two races going on. Who is going to be first to put the trucks head to head lugging a 20,000 lb RV up the mountain and secondly who's going to get to the top of the mountain first. I'll say Pickuptrucks.com is going to be first to determine that Chevy is still King of the Mountain. If I replace my truck in 2014 I will have a hard time trying to decide which way to go.I don't care. Just my $.02 worth.

RE: Wrap head of anode rod with masking tape for socket

I use black vinyl electrical tape to hold things like the anode rod. Little screws on power window motors, etc. It's also good for an old flex socket that droops when you're trying to reach it in onto a fastener. A wrap around the flex joint part of it holds it straight till it's on, then flexes when the socket needs to.
Back to topic... I doubt the teflon tape succeeds in totally isolating the rod from the tank. But I can say that I do tape the rod, and the rod still erodes.I use tape and mine erodes too.

RE: Almost made a huge mistake

I wonder why my dad carried 16,000# plates on his 1ton Dodges from 1961 thru the 1983 that he used for business and never broke or bent anything? And yes they often grossed close to that.
My dodge, I had 26,000 plates....for hauling RVs commercially.
;)His wasn't commercial though. His truck and trailer plates together were only 25k. Besides no scales out here in the country away from interstates.

RE: Advice on Sizing truck Requested

Speaking of ride quality, our Ram Dually really rides nice empty. Friends that ride with us that have ridden in other trucks always comment on how amazed they are with the ride of our Ram.
Ours is our daily driver, we call it the Limo!Maybe this is why the payload is so low that everyone complains about on a Dodge. Low payload equals soft spring equal soft ride.:)

RE: Cord rubbing on tailgate

I put my plug in the bed... Right behind the left taillight. Easy stuff. It came as a "T" setup to tie into the back of the under bumper plug. I bought it on Etrailer.com with free shipping...about 45$. I like having the cord safe.I haul to much loose material, sand, mulch, etc to have one in the bed. I would beat it up or contaminate it.

RE: Sout Dakota wind conditions during summer

We lived in S.D. for 9 years and we still go thru there quite often to visit family in Montana and I have never worried about the wind. About the only thing I worried about was if the was to much snow and the road closed down. Our last trip across with rv was in'11. Our next time will be in Oct. '13. Have a good and safe trip.

RE: Cord rubbing on tailgate

I have draped over the tail gate for the last 8 years without rubbing paint off or rubbing a flat spot on the cord. In fact it very seldom moves while going down road or on turns.

RE: pin height

If you set it with an empty truck you may have an unlevel trailer after hookup as the truck will go down 2 inches or more depending on pin weight. My dealer set mine when I picked up the trailer and I had to reset it after I got home and fully loaded.

RE: Getting From Ohio to YelowStone...and back!

There really isn't much to see or do in Riverton. I would skip it and head straight to Dubois. :B
Awesome...thanks for the advice. I am going to look over these responses and modify my schedule somewhat. I am locked into Dubois and Flagg Ranch, but I my main concern was the routing. If you had to pick would this community choose Rushmore or Devils tower on the return trip? I hear both are grand, but not really a long lasting day for either.Concerning the return trip, if it was me I would see Devils Tower then head down 385 at Spearfish to Rushmore then back to Rapid City on 16 to I-90 and home. We lived in Rapid City for 9 years many moons ago.
Great idea, is this route ok for the length of tow I have? Seems many posts are very concerned with the MtRushmor areaYou should have no problems. We towed a 21'tt thru there and other places in the hills with a Dodge maxi-van back in the '80s. We also drove a 33' Winnebago out 16 to Rushmore, to Crazy Horse and out thru Lead/Deadwood to I90 on our way to Montana. Have a safe trip. Hope you enjoy it.

RE: ST verses LT Tires

My Montana came with LT from the factory. They are date code in late 04 and still in use. They will be changed out before this years fall trip to Montana. And yes LT's will go back on it, brand not decided on yet.

RE: I 68 East across Maryland

We went across I-68 in'11 with signature rig and I found it as easy as I-70 in Utah thru Colorado.
So are you saying that 1-70 through Colorado is no harder than I-68? I've driven I-68 in a car so many times I would have never considered it a problem in an RV. Now you all have me wondering. Guess I'll find out how I do in two weeks on I-77 south.Guess what I am saying is that mountain driving on interstates is easy for me. I pulled Beartooth Pass into Yellowstone with a '76 Dodge maxi-van and a 21'tt in '82 and did not feel the least bit worried. Even pulled off a few times on the way up. Have a safe trip.

RE: Cold Weather Warm up TImes for Powerstrokes

I started mine in Great Falls, MT. several mornings last Christmas week at-4 with one cycle of grid heater. Started easier than the DT-466 powered school bus I drive after being plug in for 14 hours in temps above 0, or for that mater at above 60 after being parked for only 6 hours.

RE: [Q] Cummins 5.9 fuel filters DIY

I do mine when it is due. It really is a piece of cake to do. I also do my own oil changes. I let a local good tranny shop do my trans and rear end. Mine is an'04.5 and easy, but I hear that some newer are a real bear to do.

RE: Why truckers don't like RVers

I got held up for over 20 minutes at a station off I-26 last summer. I even went inside to complain, but to no avail. The hose was in the vehicle the whole time with no one around. Driver finally came out with shopping done and food bought. The diesel pump was in the same lane as several gas pumps. I will use the truck lanes when I can except here at home. Indiana truck stops don't charge the sales tax in pump lanes and the TA truck stop does not have a diesel lane for cars/small trucks.
