RE: Chevrolet 2500hd ?

Love my 2005 8.1, 4.10, ext/cab, s/b - 14 mpg highway, 8-9 city, 8.5-9.7 towing 9200-lb loaded 5vr. Gas mileage probably not much worse than 6.0 highway and probably better when towing.
It's great when you have to merge onto interstates at 65, 8.1 does easily. Have NO ISSUES with truck (engine and tranny included).
If you choices are 8.1 or 6.0 - no brainer - 8.1!

RE: Dometic AC Remote Control

I hated that remote also. Sometimes my a/c and heat were turn on at the same time. After finding that 13.5k a/c couldn't handle the job, I upgrade to 15k a/c and went with wall thermostat and threw remote away. No problem since. It's either OFF/COOL/HEAT. No in between. Love it.

RE: CO-Glenwood Springs to Colorado Springs bypassing Denver

cm -I checked out 24 south from Vail using Google Earth and it appears to be good 2-lane road all the way down to Buena Vista. Elevation readings along the way didn't seem too extreme.
This is the first time TL Navigator failed me. Usually if I want it to take a certain road and enter a town enroute and it goes thru there, but not this time, it insisted on Shrine Pass Rd, even with Minturn and Gilman entered.

RE: CO-Glenwood Springs to Colorado Springs bypassing Denver

Good idea about multiple routes. I use TL Navigator on laptop and check weather and make route adjustments as needed. We're retired, so we don't have to be in any particular place ata given time. Just thinking about a 30-day, or so, trip from CA to see Zion/Bryce/Arches and some CO scenery and loop back down to 40 and home, more or less.
Thanks for all the great info, esp length limitations and snow possibilities.
When we went thru CO on 70, 7 yrs ago, we had 17 days to get to Wooster OH, Porum, OK and back home. Scenery went back pretty fast, except after Dillon and Eisenhower Tunnel. Want to enjoy some of that this trip.

RE: CO-Glenwood Springs to Colorado Springs bypassing Denver

Maybe another option (#2) from Grand Junction on I-70 onto 50 thru Gunnison all the way to Pueblo.
How is 50 on that stretch. How about scenery. Less chance for snow/weather issues?

RE: CO-Glenwood Springs to Colorado Springs bypassing Denver

New option - I-70 to Exit 71 (Dowds Junction) 24 down to to Buena Vista, camp, then 285 down to Poncha Springs and camp at Salida. 50 east to Pueblo.
Trailer Life Navigator doesn't want to route me onto 24 off I-70 but onto Shrine Pass Rd, further east. Is 24 that bad from Minturn to Red Cliff?

RE: CO-Glenwood Springs to Colorado Springs bypassing Denver

cm - those were highway numbers, heading s/e from Glenwood Springs.
Just trying to see some of CO scenery while still using decent towing highways. DW starts to get a little nervous if road is too narrow. Trying to keep "pucker power" down to minimum.

CO-Glenwood Springs to Colorado Springs bypassing Denver

Leaving early next May pulling 31-ft (9200-9300-lb loaded) 5vr with 2500-HD, 8.1, Allison, 4.10.
Thinking about following route to bypass Denver, does it sound doable or stressful?
Exit I-, 82 - 24 - 285 - 291 - 50 - 1A - 69 - 96 - 165(Greenhorn) to I-25.
Have done 70 e/b thru Vail and Eisenhower Tunnel. Any worse than those on my projected route. Looks like lots of small towns scattered.
Suggestions greatly appreciated.

RE: 99 or I-5

I agree with Tomlang, also prefer 99 over 5. They've resurfaced quite a few section of 99 last couple yrs or so. Much more scenic that 5 and if needed, diesel/gas stations/restaurants, etc.
If towing, speed limit is 55 and on 5 they blow you off the road. Speed limit of 70 doesn't compute with many drivers.

RE: Nervous wife

We try to keep daily mileage to about 225-250. After than, or 5 hrs of driving with pit stops every 2 hrs, DW starts to get tired and bored. So, that's what I do, with a few minor exceptions.
Don't be in a rush, drive safely (remember, she's watching). Maybe she can be photographer enroute. She enjoys sightseeing. When DW does that, I know it's going to be a good day.

RE: Scanning

I had to update my driver thru HP's website after purchasing Vista desktop. Purchased desktop Jan 07 and took 1 1/2 yrs before driver was available. I could still scan and print, but not all functions worked until now. Even the available ink now pops up when I begin a print job.
You shud be able to get latest drivers that shud work for you. Go the ho.com then Support and Drivers. I have mine setup for auto updating.

You can check your rims for max psi/or weight - stamped on rim, maybe inside rim under tire. Don't forget stainless steel valve stems.

Zion and Bryce Canyon

Around April next yr planning trip thru Untah to visit Zion and Bryce Canyon. Coming n/b off 15 is 9 doable to 89-70 or should I go 59-389-89-70. How is 89 up to I-70 towing 31-ft 5vr?
Are Zion and Bryce Canyon close enough to find rv park in between with full hookups and use as base or should we get rv park near/at each location.
Any info would be appreciated.

RE: WHAT'S YOUR IDEAL MOTOR HOME / RV CAMP GROUND.......

Decent space between sites, as most rv's have awnings and slideouts and older parks weren't designed for slideouts.
Hookups within reach and on correct side.
Shades is nice, but satellite access needed, at least on some sites.
