RE: Dish Issue

Is the receiver one that has not been active for a while. If it has not been hooked up for 25-30 days, it will go inactive and you would have to call dish to have them wake it back up by sending it a signal. Also, try to get to channel 100 or 101, those are channels that are always on, no subscription needed. they are the dish channels that explain all the components and stuff like that. Also good questions to check out by Vegasfoodguy. Hope this may help. Happy trails Bert

RE: Dish Tailgater

You may need something like a VIP 211K in HD. That is what we use for our King Dome, and it will locate all three sats and gets all programming automatically, similiar to what the tailgater will do, but only for one tv, or 2 tv's with the same program. It has no DVR. Hope this may help. Happy Trails Bert

RE: Can we fix this problem?

What you want to look for is a shallow well pump, made for wells or sand points not much deeper than 25-30 foot deep. It is an above ground pump. It will come with an on/off pressure switch and all you would need to add is a small pressure tank. We use something similar to that in that I fill a 100 gallon tank and haul it home and have a shallow well pump and expansion tank on the trailer and hook it directly up to the city water inlet. Menards or Home Depot or Lowes would have that setup. Hope this may help, Happy Trails Bert

RE: Unified Tow Brake

I commented before the pics, but that is DEFINITELY the worst install of any wiring I have ever seen, I would be there when the doors open also. I install my own tow brackets and brakes, but that will probably change someday also. Happy Trails Bert

RE: Unified Tow Brake

We use the unified tow brake and have used in on 2 coaches and 3 cars. It is still working as it is supposed to. The wiring can all be installed very neatly to the point where it is barely visible. The only place I had difficulty on my present car was finding a place to get the wires through the firewall. The coach wiring on both was not difficult. I do not know anything about the skid plate or Demco tow brackets but the unified tow brake by US Gear has been a good brake system for us. If the wiring is done poorly, that is the fault of the installing technician, not the brake system. Hope this will help, Happy Trails Bert

RE: Duluth Mn to Thunder Bay to Sault Ste Marie Mi.

In the U.P. of Michigan, you might want to check out state parks. If you choose to go this route instead of the northern route around the lake, there is what is called a Lake Superior Circle Tour you can search for. There is a great state park in the Porcupine Mountains near Ontonagon and another on Lake Gogebic near Bergland. Up in the Kewanau Peninsula above Houghton and Hancock there is Fort Wilkins state park with a living history area of the park. You must stay in the new part campground though. There are a nice couple of private parks along Lake Michagamme and in Ishpeming. There are also a couple of parks in Munising, private and municipal, one on Lake Superior. Newberry has a park and there is another state park at Taquamanon Falls with three different camping areas and in the Soo, there are several private and municipal parks, one even has parking right on the St Marys river and you can see the freighters go close by. In WI between Superior and Ironwood along the lake, there are several parks to stay in also including Bayfield and Ashland. While in the UP if you go that way, There is the Lake of the Clouds park in the Porcupine Mts, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising, Taquamanon Falls, Seney Wildlife Refuge, Fort Wilkins, The Soo Locks and much more. In Brimley there is a casino park and private park. There is also many miles of trees and unpopulated area along that stretch also. Most of this stretch is not what one would call highly populated. The Seney Stretch between Munising and Seney is 26 miles of unpopulated National Forrest land, period, and a road as straight as an arrow. The UP is a very scenic and historic area. Also do not forget to visit Mackinac Island at St Ignace. It is one of the earliest settlements in the upper midwest and accessible only by ferry and has no motorized vehicles, only bikes and horse drawn vehicles, a must see if your close. When coming back into the States at the Soo, if you go that way, expect a very long wait. Hope this may help. If I can offer any help, PM me. In looking at your travel map, I wondered if your coach was allergic to crossing over the Mississippi river. Happy Trails Bert

RE: Where is air governor on Cummins 8.3L

Mine is like the one pictured above and located in the curb side rear compartment next to the air dryer. What trouble are you having with it? Hope this may help, Happy Trails Bert

RE: Traveling from Texas to Illinois, Indiana and Michigan

I think the one you are referring to is called Leisure Lakes, it is a member owned resort, but open to the public, located fight at I-80 and I-55. They are Good Sam and Passport America and Escapees also. We stayed there some years ago, and their facilities were nice. From there, you could also take the train to downtown Chicago also. The south shore train referred to earlier runs from South Bend Ind all the way to Chicago and picks up at the entrance to the Ind Dunes state park. In Joliet, I believe the Rock Island Line is one of the trains servicing downtown Chicago. Hope this might help, happy trails Bert In addition to that, the reference to Amish land is important also, if you take 30 East out of Joliet over towards Elkhart and Shipshewanna Indiana, there is a huge Amish community over there. Many do work for the RV industry out of Elkhart, Middlebury, Goshen, LaGrange and several other nearby communities. There homes are generally not equipped with electricity and they use horse/buggy for transportation. They also barter a lot of services for some fieldwork and things. Many are excellent craftsman.

RE: Help, Bedroom slide leaking, HR Endeavor

We had an 01 Ambassador. The bedroom slide would leak under certain conditions. We found 2 cures, one if you reach inside the side seal, you will find an aluminum angle iron riveted to the side wall of the slide. This is not sealed and goes down directly to the floor of the bedroom if water wicks in through it. We caulked all the way around the slide between the wall and that angle iron. On vehicles 04 and 05 up, you may notice the slides, specially the bedroom, has a piece of glued on eaves trough coming out from behind the side seal. This is also an attempt to catch water getting behind the seal and running down the side of the slide and redirect it to the outside. Hope this May help, happy trails, Bert

RE: Traveling from Texas to Illinois, Indiana and Michigan

X2 on the Ind Dunes state park, lots of room, large sites. The South Shore Line takes you anywhere you want to go downtown. The best way to get down there. Cheaper and better than fighting traffic. The station is just outside the park entrance. I believe there is also a Michigan state park on the dunes. You should have no difficulty finding neat places to stay along Lake Michigan, from Muskegon to Ludington to Frankfort, to the Sleeping Bear Dunes area to Traverse City and Petosky. If you get that far north, be sure to visit Mackinac Island. It is a journey back in time with no motorized vehicles allowed, horses and bikes. Hope this may help. Happy Trails Bert

RE: Power Gear Control Box Dual Motor

You might check RV Surplus or Colaw RV Salvage to see if they may have something. There are probably other part numbers of other dual-motor setups that may work also. Maybe take the controller to someone good in electronic repair and circuit boards and see if they can get it back up and working also. Just a suggestion. It is mostly a switching and load control device for the most part. My experience with slide controllers on our Ambassador was that I could bypass the controller and go direct to the motor wires in an emergency, just do not get the slide to tight and overload the circuit. Hope this may help, Happy Trails Bert

RE: Motorhome License Tags in Michigan

That sounds about right for just the tags. There used to be a loophole around that, that the Sec of state counter person told me about, that was if you owned a pickup, take the tag off that and transfer it to the motor home. I had an old pickup just for hauling things around, and did this annually for several years. That loophole may be gone now, this was in 2001. We since have transferred all vehicles and residence out of state. If still good, go out and buy a beater pickup for a few hundred and use that as a tag source. Hope this may help, and it was completely legal, Happy Trails Bert

RE: Power Gear Slide Motor

You might try RV Surplus in Elkhart Indiana, Walt's RV Surplus,or Colaw RV Salvage. All seem to have a pretty good selection of parts. Hope this may help, Happy Trails Bert

RE: Do I really want equal in my new tires

I use a product called Dyna-Beads, they are a ceramic bead, and work the same as equal. They are available from Innovative Balancing. This is the third vehicle I have used them in. If you use the smaller beads, you need to use a filtered valve core, but the larger beads you do not have to use a special valve core. They do not clump up with a little moisture as some other powdered balancing products have been know to do. Hope this may help. Happy Trails Bert

RE: Those with RV Bra's

The ones we had in a bra on a 01 Ambassador were a mild steel that was galvanized, did not rust. Hope this may help. Bert

RE: Holiday Rambler with full windows in back and bedroom chair?

I think it was in a 2005 Ambassador. We had looked at one at one time. The one we looked had a desk in the rear with the window. There are a few others who have made a floor plan similar to that also. Monaco Brochures. Hope this may help. Happy Trails Bert

RE: First time owner. Seasoned road junkie.

We had a 73 Escapade 26" on the dodge 300 chassis, JC Whitney used to carry all kinds of parts for it. This was in the late 90's, might check them out. It had a 413 with the 727 and it was a beast, but did not get any mileage at all. It also had troubles overheating the exhaust manifolds causing them to warp some. Had to set up venting of fresh air to keep them cooled down. Enjoy it. Bert

RE: How can I take both my toys, Wrangler & Harley

If you do not mind using a dolly, there is a dolly made that has the traditional spot for a car and a place in front of the car for a bike/golf cart. It appears to be pretty straight forward but also a little pricey. It is talked about on here but cannot remember the name of it. Somebody will chime in with the name. Might be a good bet and very little tongue weight. Happy Trails Bert

RE: How do the full timers do it??

We full-time, presently we are work camping for a 4 month position, Then we will travel around for about 6 weeks, then go back near the kids and their families for the summer. We have a building to back into for the summer, but still live in the coach. We have done this since 2000 and enjoy it. Even when I was working for 9 1/2 months at a time, we still tried to go somewhere at least every 2 months for a long weekend, to exercise the coach and change the scenery for a couple of days and still went home for most of the summer. It is not a lifestyle suited for everyone, and the work camping we are doing now is just property sitting and light maintenance, so it is not bad. Year after next we are looking at traveling for about 9 months straight, moving every week to a new location. Hope this may help. Happy Trails Bert
