RE: Domectic Duo Therm Penguin not operating properly?

If the thermostat has the option, try running in the auto mode as opposed to specific high, low, or medium settings. See if this makes a difference in the operation.

RE: Has anyone replaced a Trimark door latch B4 it broke

I had one of the latch plungers break a few years back. When I replaced it I drilled a hole (about 3/16") at the edge of all of the basement doors that is in line with the plunger. When a latch fails I can now poke a rod in the hole to disengage the plunger. Doesn't show and gives me peace of mind that I can get in whatever happens.

RE: Where is air governor on Cummins 8.3L

I made a great picture of it, but I cannot figure how to post it. My 96 Sig Cummins governor is located on top of the air compressor, which is located at curb side below the injector pump. It will have two air line fittings/hoses at the front and is held to the top of the compressor with two bolts. Similar to the picture above but turned 90 degrees clockwise. You should see that barrel shaped portion at the backside of the view.

RE: New Shroud for Duo Therm AC unit

It's not pretty, but eternabond tape will make a lasting repair on those shrouds also. Fred Just finished using eternabond tape strips about 3 inches long applied to the inside edge of the cover and cut wide enough to lap over into the right angle lip of the cover where it rests on the metal support frame. The tape doesn't show this way. I then used a fender washer on the outside about 3/4 inch diameter to spread the load of the screw. Looks great, and the tape will probably be there even if the cover blows off.:) I had only 3 spots out of 8 where there was a crack at the screw location but fixed all screw locations the same way.

RE: Air System Question from Newbie

I did plug in the air hose fitting and I did find that quick connect air fitting located in the front. When I opened the one to top up the tires, no air flowed out. I was hoping I might be missing some valve down-line that might be closed off somewhere??? The air system is in good shape, I'm told, so there must be some valve closed off somewhere... The air pressure produced at this fitting is typically not much, if any, above the required tire pressure, therefore if plugging into a tire that needs 110 psi (like my front tires) you will not get much if any flow to the tire. The exception to this might be if the bus is running and on a fill cycle ie when the governor is trying to reinflate the system to 130 or so. I use a stand alone compressor, as do many DP owners that produces 150 psi and that works every time.

RE: Nu-Wave Induction Stove tops

Best device to come along in a while. We use a single unit to prepare most of our meals these days. Got a great receipe for deep dish pizza from macheezmo.com. Browning the crust on induction unit in cast iron skillet three minutes or less (some experimenting required) is a key part.

RE: coolant shut off valve

My 8.3C Mechanical has this setup. The coolant filter is positioned horizontal, so changing it means loosing coolant for sure and a big mess to clean up. As is, even with the valve off, there is some loss to absorb because the filter is positioned above the alternator and can get real wet if you don't have a towel or something in place to catch the cup or so of drainange. I changed mine out several years ago and it wasn't a difficult job if you are handy. The stainless part is just the part that rotates like the spool of a ball valve. The rest of the body is not replaced normally. The valve spool, O-rings, and gasket kit from Cummins to do the job was just over $100. I also replaced the two thermostats, cause it was easy to do so at the time. I took the shut off valve body off completely because the spool was broken and I wanted to get any pieces, if any, out of the system. On the workbench, I drilled a pilot hole for a machine screw in the end of the spool and used a slide hammer to extract the broken spool. Cleaned up the bore where the spool goes, put a light coating of silicone grease on the o-rings and put it back together. As I remember it was about a 4 hour job. As a side note, the idea to put a plastic (bakelite, I think) part in a heavy duty application like this was not smart. Obviously the SS valve was the fix and a big improvement.

RE: Tire Question

Thanks for the input. It basically confirms what we thought. We'll do a check on the dates tomorrow. One more question -- any recommendations on brand? I have used TOYO's for the last two sets I purchased. Price is good and I have been pleased with performance. HANKOOK also seems to be geeting some good reviews.

RE: Tire Question

First you need to determine the tire's age(s). Check sidewall for an inscribed DOT number in a box that has 4 digits XXXX at the end. First two are week of manufacture and last two are year, ie, 3607 is week 36 year 07. If in fact they are from 03 or 04 you are due for a new set of tires. Rule of thumb is 7-8 years.

RE: Should I have been concerned?

As long as one set of the rear tires (duals) is still in contact you should still have braking protection from rolling, but, it still is a good ideal to have all four rear tires in contact imho.Maybe-maybe not :@ It depends on how the brakes work. Drive shaft brake would allow the differential to turn and vehicle to roll. If I'm that unlevel and not pointing down hill, I'll block all the tires before and after leveling and if I had enough cribbing, at least roll that one rear up onto it. Good point.

RE: How to clean the pleated front window shade

It's be discussed in the forums that a bath of club soda purchased at wally world or wherever it's sold cheaply works. Haven't done this yet myself but when needed will try.

RE: Reasonabel MH service in Coeur D Alene area

Check around but Ray's Truck Service and RV Repair (509-535-3559) has a good reputation. They are located off I90 at Broadway exit in Spokane Valley, WA. which is 20 miles or so from CDA, Idaho.

RE: Greased the chassis

Above info good. The only caution that I have used and read about here is to use a handheld (one-handed,small frame) gun on the brake S-cam shaft so the pressure is mild and doesn't over do it and get grease into brakes. My slack adjusters have a vent hole that prevents over filling. Higher pressure gun OK for U-joints, drive shaft slip joint, steering, front axle components.

RE: Which PEX fittings are best for repairs?

I have used the Flair-it fittings and the Gatorbites from Lowes. Both work fine. Gatorbite seems easier but is more money. I would pass on the crimp style as I understand the crimp tool is fairly expensive. The crimp might be better if you do a lot such as have a repair service. My thoughts exactly. Have an asssortment of the Flair-it fittings in the tool box. Much less expensive than the "bite" fittings. Crimp fittings a distant third choice.
