RE: Advice for bypassing Skagit River Bridge?

Whatever they put in place for a detour will be there for a long time.

RE: cash grab by Crown Villa Resort

We were always right there with the dog outside. he was never left alone or unattended for even one minute. The dirt was from the tree surround. He did not dig a hole. We never did not assume responsibility for the damage. My only point was that the worker was right there and it should not have taken him more than a few minutes to repair, and that $40 was excessive. Our only mistake was not pushing the dirt back off of the grass and for that I get blasted by you grumpy people and get called an idiot.

cash grab by Crown Villa Resort

We recently went to Bend oregon to do some dirt biking. We stayed at Crown Villa RV Resort for one night before heading out dry camping. A family friend and her son came along and she brought their dog. As per their regs we tied the dog up to a large tree on our lot. A few days later I get a voicemail from Crown Villa saying the dog had dug up the grass and made a mess and they were assessing us $40 in damages and wanted to know what credit card I would like to use. I did not see the damage but our friend says the dog did not dig up any grass but yes some dirt had been spread onto the grass. She decided not to push it back because one of the maintenance guys was in the process of re-edging and cleaning up the surrounds on all the trees. I watched him do a few and our lot was next. Our friend said it would have taken her 5 mins with a rake to make it good. When she called back to dispute the charge the General Manager said they had re-assessed and would now only charge us $20, rather than argue she agreed to pay. We have stayed there many times and this was a bit ridiculous to want to charge $40. This would be on top of the $70 we paid for the nights stay. We did also notice that this time the grounds were not their usual pristine condition. Grass looked dry and sparse and hadn't been cut in quite a while. Pine needles everywhere. After our drycamping stay we went back into town but this time stayed at Sisters Garden RV park. The place is looking better each time we go there. beautifully maintained. I had always liked going to Crown Villa but this has soured me and we will most likely never return. Especially when Sisters is much nicer and was $25 cheaper.

RE: Newmar Ventana 3942 Bunk - Pros/cons/advice/regrets?

the recliner is not the greatest but we move it out to the middle when we watch tv. a couch would be better. The tile is great. I wish it had tile all the way thru the bedroom. Carpet is too hard to keep clean

RE: Newmar Ventana 3942 Bunk - Pros/cons/advice/regrets?

We have 3942 Ventana and have owned it for 3 1/2 yrs. We have 2 kids age 13 & 10 and bought it used 1 yr old with 9000 miles. We now have 47000 miles on ours so I would say we use it a lot. At least 8 wks of holidays each of the past 2 yrs. We go dirt biking and pull a 7000 lb. traler most of the time and do a lot of boondocking. It has been a good coach but we have had some issues. The worst issue is the Precision Temp hot water heat. It is constantly in need of repair. Usually a small $10 part fixes it but in my mind a heating system should be dead reliable. The service tech at Precision Temp knows me by first name. When it is working it is the best type of heat. I would never buy a coach with a forced air furnace. Newmar no longer uses that manufacturer. We also had a problem with the heat because of an issue with Newmars construction. In the slide-out they go from Pex pipe to rad hose for a small portion to allow for flexing with the slide moving. Just using a hose clamp to attach the rad hose to the pex causes the pipe to crush and restricts flow. We changed the fittings to proper ones and problems solved. Poor design on Newmars part. Another disappointment has been Newmars "Amish Craftsman" cabinets. I am a cabinetmaker carpenter by profession and luckily I am able to repair them myself. Thin plywood, staples with no glue have left cabinets shifting and twisting loose. In particular the large kitchen cabinet in the slide out has twisted, even enough to crack the Corian countertop behind the sink. I reinforced and all is well now. Both passenger side slideouts have failed but luckily I have an old grumpy local repair guy that can fix anything. I replaced the Kingdome domed dish with a Motosat HD dish and am very happy. I built a larger stereo cabinet, installed a 40" tv with a proper Marantz AV receiver and Klipsch in-ceiling speakers and trashed the cheap sub under the sink and use a Velodyne sub and SQ is now pretty good. I even have a pair of Terra outdoor speakers I hang on the outside with a Bryston amp and wifi with a hard drive so I can sit in my lawn chair and control music from my phone. The chassis is good but remember it is a straight front axle and drum brakes. The "Comfort Drive" works well. Power is acceptable. All in all a good quality coach that serves us well. I believe it is the best of the entry level DPs that are available with bunks. Our friends had a damon Astoria with bunks and our is miles better. I would only sell it to move up to a tag with IFS and 500 hp or more. Sorry for being long winded. let me know if you want to know anything else.

RE: Enclosed ATV Trailer

We have a Pace American GT enclosed trailer. Nice trailer, looks great but the quality of all trailers these days is pretty low as they are cranked out quickly to keep the prices down. Or you could step up to an ATC or Gold Rush trailer if you want top quality. But then expect to pay big bucks.

RE: What satelite system to purchase?

We had a Kingdome and it was garbage. Now we have a Motosat. We have 2 receivers running 3 tvs ( 2 in HD, 1 in SD) . Use Dish with a VIP722K DVR for 2 tvs, and a 211K for the bedroom tv. When we boondock, trees are never an issue. most RV parks these days have trees trimmed to provide sat service. I always tell them I need sat and they know which sites will work

RE: Shaw Satellite service

We recently made the swap from Bell to Dish Network. we now get good reception everywhere. A much improved picture quality compared to bell. It is a pain that you have to call to get network stations each time you move.

not on most peoples list but we love eastern oregon. Absolutely beautiful country and not crazy with people like the coast can be in the summer.

RE: Newer entry level DP bunkhouses?

A Newmar Ventana bunkhouse like ours would be perfect for you. Not many built but be patient and you'll find one.

RE: Musings in the middle of the night

A few years ago we were staying at a CG in Hope B.C. with our friends also there. It was a dump and we kept tripping the breaker and would have to contact the office to have it flipped back on. It was a sunday in April and the place was empty except for a few sites Checkout was 11:00 and at 12:00 the owner came around and complained that we were staying late and using extra electricity. He was persistent so my friend gave him $10 and he went away happy. Never went back there.

RE: Bought the wrong motorhome!!!

OK so if I hear you right, you need to have seat belts for 7 people and be able to sleep seven. Our coach has a pull out couch sleeps 2 with 2 seat belts. More than enough room to add another set of seat belts. Our drop down dinette has 2 seat belts and sleeps 2. You can't have seat belts rearward facing on a dinette. We have bunk beds that sleep 2 and a rear queen bed for 2. That makes seat belts for 7 people and sleeping for 8. Does that work? It's not hard to find a gas or diesel coach with bunks. Lots of gas ones for sure.

RE: Bought the wrong motorhome!!!

when we go dirt biking we take our 40ft and 18' trailer to some pretty gnarly places. But when we get there the spaciousness of our coach is fantastic. I can pull into a lot of regular gas stations even with the trailer. no need for a truck stop. Give it a few trips and you'll get used to it

RE: aqua hot / hydro hot floor heating

I believe that Entegrs coach advertises that they have hydronic infloor radiant heating thruout the entire coach. Most likely similar to some residential system where the hot water pipes are attached to the underside of the plywood subfloor. Most hot water system use a series of heat exchangers (radiators) positioned thru out the coach

the biggest problem on our holidays

So we are close to the end of our 3 wk spring break holiday. we went to palm springs and stayed at the Motorcoach Country Club now we are south of San jose enjoying wonderful weather. A few minor issues, heat is not working (no big deal, it's warm here), 1 bedroom slide out isn't working (fix it when we get home, better than a living room slide). My biggest trouble is the fruit flies landing in my Bourbon. I pay good money for Bourbon (Four Roses Single Barrel) and I don't want bugs in it.

RE: Spartan Chassis Wandering?

Does yours have the Comfort Drive knob on the dash? It's a Newmar exclusive. Make sure it is cranked up to it's highest setting. If it is take it to a proper alignment shop

RE: RV Remodel - Flat Screen TV update

From the receiver to the TV you can use HDMI. It is a simple 1 wire for HD video and audio. Or you can also use Component video cables and RCA cables for audio. HDMI is by far the easiest, just don't buy the cables at best buy. Far too expensive. You can get them at the dollar store or if you need longer lengths order them online for cheap. Remember that any runs over 25' should be larger 22 gauge as compared to standard 28 gauge to prevent signal loss.
