RE: Where to Stay Along the Way: So Cal to Portland, OR

If your going to hang out in the Monterey area, there is a restaurant called Louie's by the Aquarium that was good and had good views. Kids had fun there. Also at Moss Landing you can rent Kayaks and go up into the Elkhorn Slough. Lots of sea otters and wildlife up there!. Have fun!

RE: Need a camp ground recommendation for Big Sur

Fernwood and Big Sur Camping and Cabins both look nice. We took a drive through them a couple years ago. Fernwood had some nice sites on the river. We usually camp at Pfeiffer Big Sur SP but they do not have any hook ups. Have Fun!

RE: CA-OR-WA Coast -- Trip Planning for 2014

Kirk Creek & Plaskett Creek are both in the Los Padres NF and close to the beach. Not many NP to be found in the SF Bay Area but lots of SPs. All take reservations 6to 7 months out and book quick. Check for county parks in Santa Clara. There are some nice ones.

RE: Recommendations for Microwaive replacement

Thanks for all the info. We do not run the Mirco off the batteries. If we use it dry camping we are only heating up leftovers and kid food so we just turn on the genny and run the micro from that. So we can get one from Home Depot? Can you get kits to secure it like the one the defunct Samsung one has? The bracket had also cracked about a year ago and was rattling so much we used some of theat sticky drawer liner to stop the noise! Any issues with venting a non-RV one? there are no vents now except out the front grill. Thanks for the help!

Recommendations for Microwaive replacement

Our microwave in the coach died recently and we are looking to replace it. Any recommendations for a decent micro only oven. We don't use it much but the hole is there so we may as well fill it up! Thanks

RE: Huntington Lake, CA camping

Thanks! Good to hear there are flush toilets. We were up there bout 9 years ago. We had all kinds of weather. Fred - thanks for the info on Big Creek. I'll check it out. Anyone know about the dump station situation?

Huntington Lake, CA camping

We have reservations for Deer Creek Campground in August to spend a couple weeks. We will have our Winnie and will need to dump at least once during that time. Does anyone know of a dump station in the area. There is a resort that has one but was wondering about any others. Also, I get mixed reviews on the toilet situation at Deer Creek. are they vault or flush toilets. May help the dump situation to know! Thanks for any insight!

RE: California trip need suggestions/opinions

Be sure to take some time to see the Coastal Redwoods. Muir Woods right across the GG Bridge has a nice grove and is close to the city. If you do make it down to San Jose to see the Winchester Mystery House, head over to Santa Cruz for the day to see more redwoods, hang out at the beach and go to the Boardwalk for some rides. There are a lot of wineries on the way in it that sounds fun too. There is camping available in Felton in the redwoods that is usually available during the summer. Redwood RV Park looks nice. There is alot to do in the Presidio now in San Francisco: museums, biking, hiking and great food. Another fun thing to do is head over to the coast and eat at the Beach Chalet overlooking Ocean Beach. When are you coming? it is foggy here in the summer so be prepared for cool mornings and evenings along the coast. Have a fun time!

RE: What's the most unexpected thing seen around the campfire ?

We were camping a few years ago at Sunset SB in Monterey County. My husband got there first with my then 4 yr old son. A baby skunk wandered into our campsite and curled up next to a bush and had a 2 hour nap 2 feet from the picnic table. We saw it several times round the campground and the host was telling us they were living under his deck. The rangers had declined to remove them until the kits had grown up and moved on.... smelly!

RE: Vegas to San Francisco Advice needed for Brit!

It is a choice between beach or mountains coming into California. What time of year will you be here? There are parks available outside Yosemite. Come over the 58 and then cut up 99 to 49 in Fresno to get to some great camping spots. Lots of National Forest Campgrounds. Then cut across to Santa Cruz/Monterey for a day or two to see the Aquarium and have fun at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and see the Redwoods. This is where we live. Then you can head up the coast route Hwy 1 and stay in Pacific at the San Francisco RV resort to park the camper and go into SF by Cab or bus. If you like wine tasting there is some in the foothill off Hwy 49, in the Santa Cruz Mountains and you can head over the Golden Gate to Sonoma County for some great wine! My birthplace. Have fun and stay safe!
