Malibu as a toad

Does anyone have a Malibu as a toad? We have a 2004 Jeep Unlimited Wrangler and are looking at trading for a 2008 Malibu. This trade has more to do with better gas mileage while driving than anything but it also needs to be our toad for the MH.

RE: For all my brothers retired and active

Last week 2 officers were shot in the line of duty in my city. One made it, the other died on Monday. This is a very timely and very true poem. My DH is a retired cop and believe me, the words in this poem ring very true. The funny thing is my DH misses being out there and if age and health would allow him, he'd be back on the street in a heart beat.

Inquiring minds want to know

I hijacked a post and I'm sorry that I did that. So now I'll post a new post on the subject. For all you fulltimers, how long does someone need to be out on the road before you consider them a fulltimer? We were only out 18 months before we found the "prefect spot" for us. We were there 3 yrs before we needed to return "home" due to my mom's health. There are no campgrounds in this area that are even worth a grain of salt so we bought a house. So that's our story in short version. Since some fulltimers feel 3 yrs is not long enough (cooped up in small RV, even though they spent 3 yrs on the road, which indicates to me they enjoyed the fulltime lifestyle for 3 yrs, just were ready for something different) how long does someone have to enjoy the fulltime lifestyle before you hard core fulltimers allow them to be in your "circle?"

RE: Too many dogs??

At one time we had 5 Maltese that were rving with us. There were times a campground would have a 2 pet limit but most of the time it wasn't a problem. We always called ahead to see what the polices were.

RE: Would you ever consider buying a park model in a resort?

Yes, we have considered it but are in the process of buying a townhome instead. The thought of being cooped up in a park model was the same as being cooped up in the RV.
We will have 1411 sq ft and 3 BR and 3 BA and hopefully still be able to RV when we "want to" instead of "have to".
Three years on the road is enough for us but we have enjoyed it and now is the time for a change.
Only YOU can decide what is best for YOU.
Good Luck.
Bob
3 baths to clean - no thank you. :p And if you felt cooped up in an RV, obviously this wasn't the life for you. That's what is so great about this country - lots of different options to fit lots of different people.
Barb
So how long does someone have to fulltime before you consider them to be fulltimers?? Obviously in your opinion 3 yrs isn't long enough.

RE: Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival

No but have been to Rhinebeck and a very nice little town. Also just returned from Main, our favorite state! Every time we go, we find more beautiful places to see and eat!

Thanks for the replies - as stated, just curious. We like to explore but if we only have a short time out, we do go to the same campground.

Why - curious more than anything

I have noticed that some members seem to go to the same place or 2 and never go anywhere else. I understand if you are still working and can only get away for a week or so. But I'm really asking the ones that seem to be in our age bracket (late 50's early 60's) and are retired, why not venture out and travel? I can't imagine us going to the same place over and over. So just wondering, what makes you go to the same place?

RE: Riverbend RV Resort,Ft Myers FL

Dixiechick is right. Riverbend is in Alva and is about 25 minutes from the outskirts of Ft Myers but more like 45 minutes from anything you would want to do in Ft Myers. Labelle is the closest town but doesn't offer as much as Lehigh Acres, which is about 20 minutes away, for grocery shopping and resaturants. Riverbend is very nice but because it is located on a river is also very expensive to be so far away from everything. They do have a very nice clubhouse on the river and have planned activities, if you want to participate. It is definitely a very nice rv resort and you will be renting a site from an owner so each site will have different amenities. If you plan to go to the beach, it will be about a 45 mintue drive, one way. We would not stay there again because of the $$$$ and all the extra mileage to go anywhere. However, as stated, it is a truly rv resort. Jan

RE: workamping skill set

RayK25, believe me you will be welcomed as a security guard at any campground that has them. My DH is a retired cop also from NC and even though he wanted to try other workampimg jobs, was always pegged for security. I am retired from the hospitality industry and found front office work without a problem. Both of you should be welcomed. Jan

RE: Maine trip (WI to Maine), should I tow??????

In 1996 and '97, when we were still working, our 34ft MH was our sightseeing "car" while exploring Maine. In '96 we enjoyed this way of traveling so much we did it again in '97. There was only one time that we had a mishap. We went down a road to see a lighthouse to find the road ended at the lighthouse right at the water. My DH was able to back up and got us turned around, much to the amazement of the lighthouse keeper! Since then we have returned to Maine many times and have taken the toad. With the toad, we have found many more wonderful out of the way places to explore. Have fun.

RE: Talk me into Texas please?

So far when we have been in the Kerrville area, the weather has been warm days, sometimes high 70's to cool, 60's during the day. Those temps are what we like. The temps in the RGV are warmer but we did not like the wind. One yr when we were in the Hill country it snowed in Victoria - not sure exactly where that is but from the news sounded as though it was very unusual because it was south Texas. That day we were having 70 degree weather in the hill country. No, hill country will not be as warm as RGV but I would trade cooler temps for wind. When in the RGV area, we had a hard time sitting outside the MH due to the wind. Not my idea of fun. Also if prices go up during the winter, the prices are still better in the grocery stores (HBE) and non chain restaurants than where we live in NC. As far as the OP, Texas is not Florida and the OP will not see the lush landscape that Florida has. But just like Florida, Orlando, Ft Myers and alot of the area is much cooler than way south Florida. But even in the "cool" weather areas of Florida the monthly rates are much higher than the very warm areas of Texas, not to mention the restaurants, etc of Florida. As stated, Florida wants the money of the snowbirds but hate the snowbirds. Texas, no matter where you go, love the winter Texans - or at least make us believe they do.

Mountain Mama, we like the Kerrville area. Close for day trips to so many places but a "small town" with all of the amenities we need.

RE: What questions do we ask?

A big mistake we made on our 1st workamping venture was not asking about days off. We had 24 hrs for full hook up. Sounds great but for that 24 DH worked everyday - no day off.Of course only a couple of hrs a day but it screwed us up for sightseeing, etc. Just a FYI to pass on.
