RE: south Texas reservations

My DH fishes from a sea kayak at the Lighthouse Trails (Texas Parks and Wildlife Scenic Trail) between Port Aransas and Aransas Pass. It's a beautiful protected area for kayaking and fishing. We have an annual site at Lagoon's RV resort in Rockport - many activities and amenities.

RE: Reel to Reel Tape

We took our reels to an AV transfer company - they digitized them onto a CD. My DH can't give up his Roberts reel-to-reel, but we now have a more versatile copy. We did the same with our 8mm films - they are now on DVDs. There are several firms online that convert 8mm, 35mm slides, etc and put them on their website for you to add music, choose the order of selections, etc. We made several copies for family members and they are so appreciative.

RE: Need some help picking our next TT

We have a 2009 Keystone Sprinter 31BHS that fits your requirements. We have been very pleased. Good luck in your quest! We had the 1350BTU AC upgraded to the 1500 because we live in South Texas and needed the extra power.

RE: That would be Rockport Texas CGs

We stay at Lagoons and really like it. DH is a sea kayaker/fisherman and he finds many places to fish both on piers and in his kayaks.

RE: Tiedowns and Hurricane Bill

A couple of years ago, we thought a hurricane was headed for Rockport, TX. The managers of our RV park had an emergency meeting to discuss evacuation plans. One person asked about tie-downs and the park manager said there is an old saying that if you tie down an RV in a hurricane, after the storm is over, the only thing left will be the tie-downs. I strongly encourage you to leave the area, with or without the RV. Best to you and let us know when you are safe.

RE: 3 Most Important Things in Purchasing a TT?

We also moved up from a pop-up to a TT. We made a big mistake in buying too small - the 26' without slides seemed very large compared to the PU but we realized after the first trip with grandson that we bought too small. We waited five years and traded up to a 31', two slides, bunkhouse and are very pleased. My suggestion is to buy the largest TT your tow vehicle will pull - you will thoroughly enjoy the extra space!!!

RE: Can anyone recommend a good forum for Mac users?

We are long-time MAC users and my husband has used the iLife suite to create several projects similar to what you are wanting to accomplish. We had many 8 MM films that we converted to DVD via a commercial company before adding stills and sound. You will be pleased with the MAC - another option is to pay the money for the weekly personal training sessions in the Apple store. My son and his business partner did this (I think it is $100 annually) - they have been extremely pleased with the help they have received.
Good luck!

RE: Changing AC filter?

We are also in South Texas and we clean our filter once a month April - October. It's very easy to do and is a preventative maintenance operation. We bought a package of the filter material from our RV dealer and occasionally cut a replacement filter.

RE: cleaning dirty awnings

Spray both sides with water
Apply Awning Cleaner to both sides with a paint roller (we use the brand from WalMart)
Roll up awning for 20 minutes
Unroll and spray both sides
Any remaining spots can be attacked with Clorox CleanUp or any cleaner of your choice - I use a cheap sponge floor mop with a scrubber attached.
I read on here to use Magic Eraser on stubborn spots - I will try that next time.

RE: We did it! We are new TT owners!

Congrats on your new TT. Many memories will be made! We use sleeping bags on the bunks - no need for sheets, bedspreads, etc. Very easy and relaxing for the grandsons because there is no pressure to "keep your bed made up". We stored the queen bedspread and purchased a comforter to coordinate with the color scheme - also added a memory foam mattress. We have a tub with lid for cleaning supplies so they don't spill in transport. Purchased over-the-door towel racks. Use the rubber shelf liner that keeps items from moving around - very good investment. We frequent $$ stores looking for plastic tubs, etc. My crockpot and toaster oven are used frequently.
Enjoy every moment!!!

RE: Cleaning Electric Awning

We just cleaned our electric awning this past weekend. DH stood on a ladder and sprayed the top with a weak bleach/water solution, then came underneath spraying with the same solution. We rolled up the awning for about 20 minutes, unrolled it and rinsed both sides. There were a few spots on the underside that needed a brush, but, otherwise, it was very clean. We let it air dry. After we finished, one of the campground workers came by and said she uses a paint roller on a long pole to apply the cleaning solution - she also uses the same roller to apply roof cleaner once a year. We're going to try the paint roller the next time.

RE: Cooking in TT propane oven

My ceramic tile works great (about $2.00 at Lowes.) You can also purchase an air-bake cookie sheet to put on the rack. Be sure to measure your rack before shopping for a cookie sheet.

RE: WHITE NOISE MAKER ?

We have a small battery powered sound machine with 8 different sounds... white noise... rain... etc. Purchased it a Brookstone but have also seen them at Radio Shack. We use it any time we travel and have been very happy with it.

RE: Toll road bypass - Austin, TX

All of the construction on I-35 through Austin has been completed so it is much easier to get through without delays unless there is an accident. We took the Toll Road last week ($8.80 for the truck with no trailer) and it was delightful to travel with no traffic; however, there are no convenience stores or fuel stations yet so make sure you have plenty of fuel before heading out that way. We have decided to stay on I-35 on the weekends and take the Toll Road during the week. We prefer the upper decks on I-35 because the lower decks seem more closed in and there is incoming and exiting traffic to deal with.

RE: Fish frying question

DH dips fish in a mixture of egg and milk before dredging it in a mixture of flour and instant potato flakes. Everyone who eats it really enjoys the coating.

RE: Your favorite things..........

I suggest you use sleeping bags on the bunks - if it's too warm to sleep in the bag, use a twin flat sheet for cover. We also use large plastic tubs with lids that go under the trailer. I used a thick permanent marker to write on sticky-backed shelf liner and attached it to the lid and all four sides with the designation for the tub: cooking... toys... tools (extension cords, etc). The tubs store easily in the RV or the back of the truck while traveling. (Before purchasing the tubs, measure the height from ground to bottom of trailer).
Our main goal is to teach our children the beauty of the outdoors and the many ways we can work to preserve it for their children. Enjoy every moment!! We are now in our "golden years" and enjoy looking back at all the fun times with our children and we are teaching the same lesson to our grandson!

RE: Another Newbee Question

We leave the fridge on elec and also leave the propane on as a back up. Turn the water off at the pole, close the blinds, turn off the hot water heater and lock the door. When the weather gets hot, we set the AC on 85 so that it doesn't get extremely hot inside. Please let us know if you have additional questions.

RE: Need sound advice

We purchased a 26BH Trail Light in 2002 and immediately knew we should have purchased one with a slide. We loved the TT and had no problems except we needed more room. When our grandson was with us, we just didn't have enough room to put all the "stuff" and the bodies, too. We kept it for 6 years and traded in 08 for a Keystone Sprinter 311BHS - now we feel like we have more room than we need!! I suggest you look for a good used bunkhouse with a slide to increase the square footage. However, we have a tendency to make do with what we have and the few more square feet may not be worth the extra cost. You are wise to stay within your financial means!!
