We are going from Winnemucca, NV to Lee Vining, CA. ANy suggestions please

RE: What's the deal with these campground memberships?

until you come to your senses, just stick with something like Passport America $39 a year or so for 50% camping. check out their web site for locations and restrictions. Don't go to the high pressure sales where they want $10,000 and when you say no they drop to $7,000. :p
bumpy
Yup, Bumpy is right. Passport America is the best!

RE: Camping Memberships

Passport America sets the bar for discount camping. It is very hard not to recover your minimal fee in just a week of travel, 2 or 3 nights make it work.

RE: Please Pull Over!!

I feel your pain. I live in Estes Park and regularly drive US 34, 36 & 285 in car and bus. People are absolute idiots in both cars and RVs. They poke along at 10 mph under the limit slowing down even more in the corners. Yesterday, I had to go to Loveland for a doctor appointment. By the time I got to the mouth of the Big Thompson Canyon there was a line of at least 40 cars behind a tourist. This is despite signs asking slower traffic pull over. Think most tourist in the mountains forget they have a rear view mirror.
Going over 285 to Buena Vista this weekend. Not looking forward to it. I rarely have to pull over 'cause I'm running faster the the slow tourists, horse trailers, overloaded wood trailers and semis. Where I do slow down significantly there is almost always a passing zone such as just before Kenosha Pass.
There is a law on the books about pulling over, but in 30 years of living in Colorado, I've never seen a vehicle pulled over.
As you live in Colorado accept that fact that the tourists are enjoying the scenery and they are not used to driving in mountains. Its the price of living in a beautiful area so lighten up.

RE: No water in a 2950 rl 2004 Montana, Help! Ideas?

Thanks for all the replies. My friend removed the panel to access the water pump and two valves had been closed. Luckily it was a simple fix to open the valves!

RE: No water in a 2950 rl 2004 Montana, Help! Ideas?

The hot water tank is full as we ran water throught the parks hose until all hot and cold water faucets worked.
There does not appear to be any selector valve on the Montana, at least by the water intakes, for city or onboard water.
We have opened and closed the drain valves for winterizing, and water comes out.
Haven't checked the clamps on the pump, does anyone know where the pomp is located in the 2950 rl 2004 Montana?
Any other ideas before we start pulling apart the basement looking for the water pump?

No water in a 2950 rl 2004 Montana, Help! Ideas?

Our friends pulled into their dry camp spot next to us. They filled their fresh water tank till overflowing but the tank indicator light shows empty,(The fresh fill is next to the city water hookups).
The pumps runs and no water comes out, only hissing air.
We ran hoses to a park outlet and the water works fine on all the outlets and bathroom, both hot and cold.
But unhooking the water line, as we are not supposed to hook up to the park water the pumps runs, no pressure develpos and no water comes out.
There is no water coming out the bottom of their fifth wheel.
They said they have never had this problen before but this is their first trip out this year.
Any ideas would be great as we are camping in the middle of the Red Desert in Wyoming.
Thanks.

RE: Stress of disposing on the Home's contents

Sounds like you have been blessed in life to have so many good memories.
It is hard as you go through your belongings but the fulltime life is so nice that it is worth it, and as others have said you take the memories with you.

RE: RV Memberships

We travel full time and have Good Sams, PassportAmerica, and Escapees. If you join nothing else join PassportAmerica as it saves a bunch. Escapees is also a great membership. We are thinking of dropping the Good Sams.

RE: Power cord-How long?

Don't stay at KOAs very often, but the last one was .. rude ... about my power cord only 20' and wasn't the 35' they consider normal. Luckily we moved to a much better spot.
If you go to a North Dakota Park plan on at least 50' to the post. Often a power pedestal is shared between 2 sites.
I now carry a 12 ga extension cord. The camper has the standard 30 amp plug, but we can easily survive on a 15 amp hook up.
Adapters? I carry 3 plus my heavy extension cord.
30 to 15
15 to 30
50 to 30
Im trying to figure out why you would want a 30 -> 15 other than using your extension cord from a 30 amp pedestal - assuming your rig is a 30 amp service? Any other reason?
Fueling around has it right, We carry all the same stuff he does and have used it all in our travels. Even though our fiver is 50 amps we have had to run off 15 amps in some parks.

RE: BAL locking chocks

I always chock both wheels. Hsving had both rotochocks and bal chocks, I found that the rotochocks are lighter and nicer but both work fine.
The reason I switched to rotochocks is that the tire spacing shrank when I put Michlein ribs on and the bals were a bit too big to fit the new spacing,

RE: Illinois to start using Photo Radar in July!

IF you not already seen this.. Just an FYI..
Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones in July. One mile per hour over the speed limit and the machine will get you a nice $375.00 ticket in the mail. Beginning July 1st, the State of Illinois will begin using the speed cameras in areas designated as "Work Zones" on major freeways. Anyone caught by these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense. The SECOND offense will cost $1000.00 and comes with a 90-Day suspension. Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license, which allow insurance companies to raise Insurance rates.
This is the harshest penalty structure ever set for a governmental unit involving PHOTO speed enforcement. The State already has two camera vans on line issuing tickets 24/7 in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH. Photos of both the Driver's face and License plate are taken. Pass this on to everyone you know who might be affected!!!
For more info: http://www.dot.state.il.us/press/r033005.html
Good, more states should do this!

RE: Good Practice Paid in FULL

The point of the original poster is that he did the pull test and it saved him thousands of dollars in damage. Apparently a lot of people seem to think that they can make a visual inspection and then they are ok.
A pull test takes little time and is part of the brake check, light check and pull test that everyone needs to do to be safe.
By the wayI really liked the lock, tag, and try response from one strange Texan.

RE: A tire survey Tires

We had Chinese tires on our 2008 Bighorn. Hard to estimate the mileage as we travel about 18000 miles a year. I would guess about 6000 towing. Didn't have any blowouts but they kept slowly losing air so we switched to Michelin xps ribs

RE: California to Wyoming in July...Best Route?

In your circumstance, I would stay on I-80 all the way to 372, east of Little America, then 28 up thru Lander, Riverton, Thermopolis, Worland, Basin, etc. You can come back thru Yellowstone if so inclined.
Definetly the way to go!
