RE: Our Holmes Ceramic Heater bit the dust....

Electric Portable Fireplace
Bought one of these for our C a couple of months ago. I can't tell you how much we love this thing. It heats the entire RV (32 ft/1 large slide), adds ambiance, very efficient, has thermostat and remote. Memorial weekend we were on the side of a mountain in upstate PA, wind steady at 30 MPH with gusts beyond. Temperature dropped into the thirties. Toasty constant 72 inside.
I'm acually going to buy another one for our S&B living room.

RE: Dometic RM2820 Not Getting Cold

I just went through the exact same thing with my Norcold. My Class C was not level in my driveway. I drove the front wheels up on ramps which brought it to just about level. All is good.

Ford E450 service in NJ

Hey fellow Jerseyites, I need to find a Ford dealer that will work on RVs. I've called a few Ford dealers in my area and they refuse to do service cause their "bays ain't big enough."
I'm in central Jersey. I don't mind changing my own oil and general maintenance, but anything above and beyond the basics it's off to the dealer.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

RE: savannah rv parks

Just got back from 2 nights in Skidaway. Beautiful park. Big sites. The front sections of the campground are closed and are being renovated. They are adding sewage hookups. They might be done by July. Give them a call.

301 South in Virginia?

My family and I are heading out next week to FL in our Class C. We plan on taking the "Eastern Shore" 301 route mentioned here numerous times in other threads. I would drive to Ohio before I'll drive 95 through Baltimore/Washington again.
My question is: 301 turns into 207 in Bowling Green Virginia which dumps you onto 95. Is it better to do that route or turn onto 301/2 south which runs into 295 around Richmond?
The Rand McNally truck map shows that the safe truck route is 207 to 95. Is that stretch of 301/2 south slow or nasty?

After a long hot afternoon and a 12 pack I found the whole thing fascinating.

RE: cost of tolls and EZ Pass from ME to FL

I have an EZ Pass in my Class C on the windshield and it works perfectly. I also have a Sunpass which, BTW, you can call them, or via their website, and have them set up an account and mail you a "free" mini-pass. It technically is not free, you pay them 5$ and they put that on your account.

RE: 2013 Jayco Greyhawk 31DS - heat/hot water exhaust ?

We did wind up buying the Greyhawk. A 31FK not DS. Love it so far. I'll let y'all know if it completely annoys us or not.

RE: Heat tape on exposed PEX water lines?

WOW what a neet idea! Rope lights for just enough heat to keep the exposed water lines warm. Cheap, safe, easy to install, easy to replace, and adds ambiance to the site. That is absolutely genius!
Since it's highly doubtful that we will experience teens and single digit temperatures in our adventures, this may just be the perfect solution.
John and Angela that is exactly what I'm going to do. Thank you much! If y'all are ever in NJ stop buy and we'll buy you drinks, dinner, whatever!

Heat tape on exposed PEX water lines?

I’ve read through every message on the forum that had “heat tape” in it. I’m still confused.
Has anyone actually used heat tape on exposed PEX water lines and if so was it a success? Failure? Does the tape hold up to road grime, salt, mud, rain etc. if you leave it on?
My brandy newdy Greyhawk 31FK has exposed PEX water lines that run to the FK (kitchen sink.) Exposed water lines under the RV, of course, make the Ultra-heat tank heaters about as useful as a football bat. I was planning on using this baby in the winter with the intention of washing dishes, taking showers and flushing the commode. I wish I had caught this during the “buying” stage but I was foolishly lured away from the scent by the “Heated Tanks” in the motor home specifications.
Anyway, we love the unit and this isn’t the end of the world, but I am looking for an easy solution to keep these exposed pipes from freezing while hooked up in temperatures in the teens. A high quality heat tape seems like it might do the trick but I don’t know.
If I can’t find an easy way out, then it’ll probably be paper plates, plastic forks, pink liquid flushes and a Costco size case of Old Spice deodorant for our winter adventures.

X2 on the Campfire In A Can. Pricy but it is worth it. It's one my most favorite rv/camping purchases.

RE: Class A on Blue Ridge Parkway or Skyline Drive?

Unfortunately I would tend to agree with seadogjim’s friend. Bad attitude I know, but I’ve drivin’ the BRP at least 20 times on a motorcycle and a few times in a car. You don’t get to see much while driving. There are too many blind curves and you have to constantly be on the watch for stopped vehicles. I went around a blind curve years ago and there was a car stopped dead because a bear was on the side of the road. I was very lucky that I was going slow, was watching and had very quick reflexes or I wouldn’t be writing this. It sure is pretty though when you ain't driving!

Bordercollie.... I thank you also. Just ordered from QVC. I don't know why these Jayco couches are so shallow but they are and they require a foot rest!

RE: Tank Heaters Pointless?

Hey Just Jeff, I also have a Greyhawk 2013 31FK with the Ultra-Heat tank pads. We've only had the RV for a couple of weeks and it's been too cold for me to really crawl around underneath to see where my tanks, drains, lines etc. are. It's in the shop right now getting it's furnace fixed (gee what a surprise, a brand new RV with broken stuff!)
I did realize when I bought it, and after watching the "amazing" Ultra-Heat DVD that the tank heaters ain't gonna do a whole lot if the drains and water lines are not protected or heated.
Did you look into adding the Ultra-Heat elbow and pipe heaters? Do you know if there is enough "juice" in the power converter to add them?
Could be another option for the OP (and me).

Welcome Class of 2013 Crs - miss you Hybridrs

Hello all you Class C’rs! Sorry hybrid’rs, we will miss you. Our Jayco 23B has been absolutely fantastic over the last year and 3 quarters, but it was time. Purchased a 2013 Jayco Greyhawk 31FK. My family was completely sold on the FK layout. She’s a beaut with a custom paint job.
We pick her up and get our “what the heck is that knob for?” 3 hour dog and pony show this weekend. I’ve never had a “big” motor home, but I do have 30 years of Class B, pop-up, trailer experience, and with all of the amazing information I’ve learned from all of you GREAT people, I’m sure I’ve got 99 and 5 9s % of the operating and maintenance stuff down already.
Now the only thing I’m not real sure of is this “toad” thing. And we are REALLY gonna need one for a bunch of reasons that I won’t get into right now. So it’s mucho rv.net reading for me…

RE: 2013 Jayco Greyhawk 31DS - heat/hot water exhaust ?

Thank you all.
I'll ignore it during my evaluation of the unit this Saturday. We are also going to look at a 2008 Greyhawk. It has the heat/hot water on the awning side too. Looks like most Class C's have at least one of them on the awning side.

2013 Jayco Greyhawk 31DS - heat/hot water exhaust ?

DW and I are (were) seriously looking and upgrading to one of these. Big bucks but it's just about time for a motorhome instead of a TT. I'm a big fan of Jayco and like the layout on this unit. Gonna drive 2 hours to see it on Saturday.
HOWEVER
I just noticed in the picture, the hot water and furnace ARE ON THE AWNING/ENTRANCE SIDE. RIDICULOUS! So when you're sitting under your awning, listening to quiet music on the outside speakers, havin' a cool drink, the hot water or furnace kicks in and you suck fumes!
Does anyone have this setup and if so, does it bother you? Do you have any work arounds, other than shutting off the hot water and heat while you're outside?

RE: Interesting trip with Jayco 23B - NJ to TN

Nice pictures Markiemark!
And if you look closely you can see our trailer or a least a glimpse of a canvas bunk end in 3 of your shots.
We hiked on that Sunday over in the Cades Cove area. Beautiful weather for it.
It's always crazy in town down there. We've been going down for about 10 years now and have learned a few tricks around the masses. PM me if you're interested.
