RE: ST225/75R15 to LT225/75R16 Conversion

Great write-up.. I'm betting a good portion of the extra stiffness is the LT tires.. When I switched from P rated to LT tires on my truck, I noticed a huge difference. Seems now I can feel every crack on the pavement and the tires do have a tendency to skip on washboard roads but cornering is much improved. - Ken

RE: decal removal help

What they said.. You'll want to saturate the sticker with the Goo-Be-Gone for it to be effective. I just used it to remove the residue from the sticker when I took my camper in for server. Came right off with no issues. - Ken

RE: New Awning - power or manual

One other piece of information that wasn't mentioned... Manual awning's don't fail, power ones can. The power ones don't require much power to extend, on the other hand, all of the work happens when you pull it in. Ours broke and would go clicky clicky and of course, it was extended fully. We had to remove two screws, roll the thing by hand, and then strap it to the camper to get home. Although the manual says you just re-install the screws, they won't line up retracted. Dropped off at dealer and they replaced the motor under warranty, other wise probably a couple hundred dollars. - Ken

RE: How much towing requires the shorter oil change interval?

All 2012 Tundras use full synthetic oil, thus the 10,000 mile interval. It seems your dealer should honor the 5,000 mile interval for severe service. If not, try moving it up the ladder to Toyota. I have a 2012 with 2,500 miles and am trying to decide what I should do. I haven't done any real towing yet. I worked with a woman whose husband was a mechanic. He changed his oil every 1,000 miles. Go figure. The full synthetic oil and free maintenance started on the Tundra's in 2010.. The free maintenance coupons are for an oil change every 5K. My dealer was more than happy to change it every 5K cause Toyota was picking up the dime. The other thing is that Toyota recommends a 0W20 oil, but allows a 5W20. For the added piece of mind I do a full synthetic and 0W20 and change every 5K. - Ken

RE: First tow with new tires

Here is a load inflation table from Goodyear: Goodyear And here is one from Toyo: Toyo When you look at the numbers you'll see that the load vs inflation numbers match between the two. i.e. it is uniform from tire to tire manufacturer on the tables. - Ken

RE: Towing Question for Toyota Owners

Instead of airbags you can go with Timbrens but I still wouldn't go over the payload capacity.. I use the Timbrens to take care of the cases when I need to move my camper and not use the weight distribution, etc. I'm running similar weights to sheltonlp and things tow fine but I wouldn't want to go much higher. - Ken
