RE: what is the vinyl/rubber strip along roof line called

Hi all, The vinyl/rubber strip that runs the length of my trailer between the rubber roof and the vinyl siding is cracked from the hail storm. It runs the whole length of the trailer from front to back. It is similar to the stuff that surrounds the cargo doors and the main door. Does anyone know what this is called. Can I order 60-70 ft of it without going through a dealer. It would be easy to replace just pop the old out and insert the new. I have a 2004 Jayco Jay flight. Thanks for your help "Screw concealment strip."

RE: Beware of Flying J

Standard operating procedure in Indiana. Not just Flying J, but most every station. Indiana is the only state we have seen it in, which doesn't mean it doesn't occur elsewhere. It is a quirk in Indiana tax laws, not a scam buy the fuel stations. X2, Indiana does not post the price with taxes. I always try to avoid Indiana and Illinois (high taxation)for fuel.

RE: Protection from mud daubers in fridge?

I have the furnace vents screened but looking at the fridge's gaping openings in the outside access cover, is there a way to keep those pesky mud daubers out of there too? Camco manufactures stainless screens for the access cover. They are pre-cut to fit either a Dometic or Norcold. You MUST select the correct brand of refrigerator. Amazon.com has them and they are approximately $19.00. Very clean and neat fit and held in place with zip locks. You will need to purchase through an automotive store, etc. an additional amount of zip locks.

RE: McClain's Complaint & Gray Tanks Question

You "may" have a combination tank which collects both black water and sink/shower water. The way to identify the tank collection sources is to empty all tanks. Then open only one drain valve, i.e. black tank and run water down various drains. If it does not empty through the open valve, then it is going into another tank. Just repeat this process for each drain valve, one at a time, and you will "map" your sources of water drainage.

RE: Lubricating equalizer hitch?

Like others have said, the sockets are where you insert the bars into the head. Lubricate above and below the socket. The bolt on the socket will also need to be torqued regularly. They loosen with time and need to be at the correct torque. Lube the L-brackets if you wish, it won't make much difference. You can also purchase a pad that goes between the L-bracket and bar in lieu of lubing. NEVER lube the L-pad areas, per the manufacturer. This is stated by the manufacturer as a intentional friction area. Use their anti-noise pads on the L-brackets.

RE: Warning Regarding Extended Service Plan

One of the biggest reasons I no longer buy an extended warranty is the language some of these companies use to find their way out of paying for a repair. Utter nonsense. I agree with Good Sam. This event is owner neglect! Not a mechanical break down! Sorry, YOU must assume the responsibility for your lack of generator care. This is a typical unjustified bashing of Good Sam for your maintenance errors.

RE: Sewer Hose Storage Gone Wrong

Instead of a pipe get a square plastic end fence post. Because it's square you can turn the connectors cross ways and it will fit. I screwed the cap on one end and use small bunge cords to hold the other end on. X2. I just inserted my Rhino hose into the 4" square bumper. As stated, you have to rotate the connector to insert into the corners of the tube. Fits well and minimal surplus clearance.

RE: Cracked ring on 30A plug

Ok call me a butterfingers but I dropped my 30A Marine type plug and cracked the locking nut that you screw on to secure the plug..I cant believe I am the first one to have done this, Anyone have a fix? (other than buying a new cord of course..) The ring is replaceable. Go to any boat store and they will have the item. You simply force the ring over the vinyl boot rib and it will fit. Try WD-40 if it is to resistant.

RE: Cross-country with our two elder kitties. Suggestions?

We're moving from MA to AZ this fall and the only way we've figured to take our two 12 year old cats with us is to drive. Not leaving them and I don't want them in some cargo hold on a plane!! So, we're going to be outfitting a class C (hopefully Chevy G20-based) for our trip and need ideas for things to make it better for them. We're going to get some nice soft (enclosed) cat beds so they can lay down and be supported while we drive. Ideas on how to leave water out (if even possible) would be great too! Purchase a "no spill" water bowl at Camping World. We always place a blanket or moving pad on the bed in overhead. This provides our cat's with their private area. Also, leave their carrying cages up there with doors open. This provides an optional area for security. Litter box is placed on a non-slip pad, such as rubberized shelf liner on floor area. Use sandwich bags with zipped tops to dispose of litter. Can be purchased at a Dollar Store. I do NOT recommend dumping waste/litter down toilet. Bags prevent odor release for at least 24 hours.

RE: Leaking Class C

Check clearance lights on front overhang. Neighbor had a similar leak and determined the factory failed to seal clearance lights which allowed major leaks.

RE: campgrounds around Atlanta other than Stone Mountain

There are slim pickings in the Atlanta area. There is a campground in Marietta but the spots are tight and the manager a few years ago was one of the rudest person I have met before. There is a small campground outside of Stone Mountain Park called Stone Mountain Heights. It is a mobile home Park that has some RV spots. It is family owned, not too far from Walmart and other shopping, and there are restaurants near by for a quick bite to eat. We stayed there as we transitioned to full timing and it wasn't that bad. You may want to check out some of the State parks along your route. We have stayed at Tugaloo and Hart state parks which are along I85 near the South Caroline state line. Keep in mind they don't have any sewer connections but may not be bad for a one night stop over. Just a suggestion, jffhlbrt1 Any idea what the name is for the Marietta campground? I need a RV park for Marietta. Thanks

RE: Financing an RV

Bought a Motorhome from Camping World in Chattanooga, Tennessee in May ov 2012, Great Service from the Camping World Folks, but, the RV was financed through a company called M&T BANK, BIG MISTAKE!! Knowing what I know now I would have never bought the RV! I had plans on paying the RV off early M&T BANK will not let you make a Princial Only Payment, every time I .tried to pay extra my money was put toward their Interest, I've given up on trying to pay it off early Refinance through Essex. Easy and fast to deal with on refinance.

RE: Good Sams ERS or Coach.net or ??? Good bye AAA !!

We have Good Sam ERS for going on 10 years. You always hope you never have to call. But, we have had to request their assistance several times. The service has always been great. One call they towed us 100 miles for a transmission repair. They are always concerned that you are in a safe place. I would highly recommend Good Sam ERS. Happy Trails. Bye Dennis X2 on Good Sam. BUT, if you want to be towed to a location of choice, you MAY have to pay the extra mileage. It is only reasonable on the part of GS. I have used their tow service twice in numerous years and they once towed my Freightliner 1.5 hours distant. The tow driver stated I receive an $800.00+ tow, had I paid for it. GS will tow the RV and personal vehicles. They WILL NOT (understandably) tow a car hauler/utility trailer in combination with your tow vehicle. GS tow service is an excellent investment. Just call and price a tow service, in the absence of the GS Tow Service Club.

RE: GS Directory

I 'early' ordered my 2013 Directory last October and received my copy either late Dec. or early January. Today I received an email from CW stating that my directory has been shipped on January 16 and showing a charge of $10.85. Order #: 10772738 - 1 Order Date: 10/02/12. I do NOT want/need/have room for a second copy of this monstrous book and certainly do not want to be charged for an unnecessary copy! Please correct this duplication! Thanks, John I JUST got off the phone with Customer Service. I to receive the same E-mail today. Customer service assured me it is NOT a second shipment and no second charge will be implemented. The E-mail is actually for the first shipment. DISREGARD the E-mail!

RE: Not To Get Sour, But...

... it's only my second year snow birding, having spent last winter in Florida, where it was nice and warm and I had a great time. So this year I thought I'd try Texas. And it's a great state and all that, but man, I have been freezing! I started on the Gulf Coast, where it was windy and cool, then the Rio Grande Valley, where it was rainy and cool. Now I'm in San Antonio, and it feels like Montreal in early November. It's really that cold. I don't want to leave Texas without seeing the Hill Country and maybe Big Bend, but I have to admit this is very disappointing. The last time I wore shorts was Christmas Day, on Goose Island. Any words of encouragement out there? Maybe I should also mention that I prefer state parks and the RVG options there are limited. And please, no flaming. Thanks everyone. January is the coldest month in Texas, per the weather man. Enjoy your trip!

RE: Title Not Clear - Private Sale of a RV that has a loan on it

I am considering selling my 2012 5th Wheel privately – not replacing it (life changes). I currently have a portion of it financed, so the bank holds the Title. Has anyone done a private sale of a RV (or motor vehicle – car or truck) that had a loan on it and the bank held the title? If so, how did you handle the financial part of the sale in a way to protect both the buyer and the seller? Did you use an escrow service? If so, which one? Trading in a unit makes this type of situation much easier as the dealer handles everything, but a private sale without a clear title is something I have never done before on any RV or Motor Vehicle. Thanks in advance for your insight and help. Russ Your lender handles the entire transaction. Call them for instructions.

RE: How do companies stay in business?

Your leak might be from one or more of your five cabover lights. Very few RV owners talk about these, so I suspect that most assume these lights, and how they are mounted, is "leak proof". I sealed mine for good just to make sure they never let water into the motorhome anywhere near the front where it can dribble down into all kinds of spots in between the walls. X2 on this information. My neighbor RV'er had leaking front clearance lights which were NOT sealed at factory installation. Nearly destroyed the overhang frame of his RV.

RE: One license plate!! (long rant!)

OK, how the heck do you tell the nice police officer your state only issues ONElicense plate and statute says it will be properly attached to the front of the vehicle!!! This is an on going problem for several people in my family. Me, working in law enforcement, have printed statutes with this law highlighted and we all carry that in our vehicles. Missouri will only issue ONE license plate for any vehicle registered for over 12,000 pounds. They have also stopped the option to purchase a 2nd plate for that vehicle due to abuse. My wife's folks traveled to Tunica, Mississippi for the weekend and were staying in one of the casinos that has RV parking. They dropped the camper and traveled around the area checking out the sights and looking for flea markets. While traveling around without the camper a local sheriff deputy pulled them over for not having a rear plate. The PC for the stop was no rear plate, as my father in law was not violating any other law, speed etc. He tried explaining to him about the one plate issue with MO but the officer wouldn't listen. He told my father in law to get another plate on his vehicle immediately upon returning to MO. Well guess what? That's freaking impossible!!! So now what???? I told my father in law to get the officers business card and info if this ever happened again. If I had made a vehicle stop on an out of state person I sure as heck would want to be well versed in the laws of another state before I start speaking out of turn........ Oh, and I do work in law enforcement...... 1100 sabre: Please post the exact verbage of this license plate law. Especially, when towing a trailer. There is more to this story than what you appear to have posted!

RE: Refinanceing

Refinanced directly with Essex within the past six months. EXCELLENT experience and completed in a very timely manner. They will refinance with a maximum of 45% debt to income ratio.
