RE: why would you do that?

Cause I don't want to tear down and drag my camper to the dump station every few days! If I'm camped at a full-service site that's another matter, but since that only happens rarely I use the park facilities.

RE: Inside Decorating of Camper

I decorate mine :-) not in camping theme, but is definitely personalized. It's my home away from home after all!

RE: New puppy Ben moves in!!

I used to buy expensive treats, or cook up cuts of meat for treats... but now I dehydrate bits of hot dogs in the microwave. They are cheap and easy (can even be held in a pocket). And! They are the favored treat amoung my 3 dogs - go figure.
I raw feed, so I suppose you could consider that people food. Sometimes in their morning breakfast bowl they'll get a bit of leftover pasta, and they usually get some broccoli when DH is feeding the bird, but all the other stuff we just haven't given them. We usually eat at the coffee table, and Spike might even be sitting on my lap, but he doesn't even look at what's on my plate - he's never gotten anything off it and doesn't expect otherwise.
Puppies are so much fun! They are little learning sponges :-)
I was expecting to see more photos ;-)

RE: Parrot cages for the RV

Grace (CAG) rides in a little varikennel/plastic carrier that has been fitted with a perch, a bottom grill to keep from getting poop feet, and a few toys. It is small, but she doesn't seem to mind getting into it. We strap it onto the console of the truck (the back seat area is for the 3 dogs). Grace takes everything in stride while we are travelling, but she is the most well-adjusted, non-phobic congo that I've ever known.

RE: Question for Dr. Doug

Did Maggie just get vaccinated? The reason I ask: Jimmy's kidneys enlarge when he gets his shots. Stays that way for a bit (a couple of weeks), then goes back to normal. The rabies vaccination seems to cause it more than the 5-way. And it's way different than the way a lipoma (fat tumor) feels; doesn't move around, of course...LOL!
Oh my gosh! That would scare the begeebers out of me. Can you take Titres and skip some of the vaccinations?

RE: Campers who leave dog poop on their site

We ALWAYS pick up ours, and any other piles we see lying around. And as a side note, we don't let our dogs pee or poop on a campsite, instead will walk them to a rough area before giving them the go-ahead. Sometimes we have to walk pretty far, but they know the drill :-)

RE: Sun is shining and camping is just around the corner!

I've got cabin fever big time too. But where we are (east of Ottawa) we still have snow in the fields. BUT I'm being optimistic that we can go to the KOA in Cardinal on the 19th of April - just 1 1/2 weeks away. FINGERS CROSSED.

Mine stayed on the counter... until it didn't. Now it rides in the sink wrapped in a towel.

RE: GD's new puppy won't stop chewing?

look online for articles on bite inhibition - it is where you first teach puppy to bite softly (ie don't bite down), before teaching him not to bite at all. Behaviourists believe there are less serious dog bites if they have been taught this way.
good luck and enjoy! I'm fighting off puppyitis as we speak, already have 3 and don't want to go up to 4!

RE: Tossing Tacky Decor in TT

I've done slipcovers, taken down wallpaper border, covered valences with plainer fabric, etc. I can live with the fabric on our newest camper, but the trick was to find coordinating fabric for pillows, etc. After searching on ebay and looking at 1000s I finally found one I liked. Just finished up my sewing and can't wait to install it into our snow-locked camper.

RE: The best way to hang pictures

Like jbbrick I use a small brad or screw with museum putty at the corners. A tiny hole is much easier to fill than the giant piece of wallpaper that sometimes comes off with the command adhesive strips... don't ask me how I know...

RE: How Many is "Too Many"??

We travel with 3 dogs and I don't find it particularly more work than 1. I walk all three at once (by myside in "formation" through the campground, then long leashes at the pooping area. I can walk the 3 by myself but usually my DH comes along for the walk. We like to walk anyway so it makes sure we do :-)
For feeding I prepare their bowls then the dogs sit at their designated spots while I put down the dishes. They don't start until I give the go ahead (even with raw meat in their dishes). They all eat promptly and there is no trouble. I do the same thing at home. It is important that feeding time isn't a free for all!
Each dog has a dog bed in the camper (well actually 2, they have an extra one in the bedroom). They generally lie down when we are inside.
We have ex-pen/fence panels to create a "room" outside of the camper. There is room for our chairs, the picnic table, and a grassy area (we carry a stack of them!). So no tiedown ropes to untangle. The dogs are more relaxed too as they can be near their buddies - in fact they share the same outdoor bed.
It can be done with multiples!
Not too spoiled at all ;-) Good Luck!

RE: To shave or not to shave

My Rhodesian Ridgeback (from Africa) has a very short coat with no undercoat - hummm... hot climate and a working dog? I also shave my poodles quite short, summer and winter. I'd rather not but their coats are so ridiculously thick that I can't get a longer blade through their coat, no matter how much I brush. Plus, the lazy part of me doesn't want to clip them every 3-4 weeks (a 2-3 hour job), as it is every 5-6 weeks leaves them too long.
I guess you have to go with what is best for the dog and what is practical.

RE: Keep an eye on those collars folks....

The collars with plastic connectors that I have came with instructions not to use on a tie out. The dogs wear them around the house with tags (just in case they get loose), but for camping they have buckle collars with sturdy hardware (also with tags of course). They always leap around when I get out their camping collars :-)
Their house collars are from Lupine and are 7 years old and in such good shape that I can't justify getting new ones with new patterns. I believe that they also make harnesses that would be of good quality as well.

RE: Living in my Class B Motorhome on the streets of NYC

Content aside, I didn't notice any ads, and even if there were some it is not any guarantee of getting any $. So more readers don't amount to more than a hill of beans ;-)
I have a blog and it seriously doesn't matter how many readers I have, I still earn $0. And that's not the point of it anyway (for me).
Time for a coffee, I'm babbling!
BTW - I can't imagine living like that - I'm WAY too chicken and have far too vivid an imagination. Not to mention an aversion to putting other people out. But good luck to you :-)

RE: What is your nick name (slogan) on your Rv

It hasn't really stuck yet, but our camper is a Titanium Mystique edition, so I thought to call it Raven as that is an alias of the comic character Mystique. And we have a bit of a bird theme going on (we travel with a parrot). But I haven't really gotten past the negative connotations - think Edgar Allen Poe's poem ... so might stick with Tardis (it seems so much bigger inside than out!).
