RE: Would like the weight police opinion on mid-size truck
If Nissan is like most manufacturers, that max tow rating is for a base truck with a 150# driver. Anything (or anybody) else in the truck comes off your max number, as does the weight of options and accessories.
You need to check that out.
If that is the way it is calculated, assuming you will have people and "stuff" in the truck, then you will be pushing the truck way beyond its real capabilities.
Don't forget, before you add any of your stuff, the propane tanks, battery, residual water in the water heater, awning and other options need to be added to the trailer dry weight too.
That's before clothes, bedding, dishes, food, beer etc.
I agree.
RE: Whats your favorite music video?
I'm not a C& W fan, but I like that Johnny Cash version of the Nine Inch Nails song...Johnny did such a great job with that song that NIN said ...it was not their song anymore...it was Johnny Cash's song...they meant that in tribute to such a tremendous singing star.
Can't recall the name of the video...just some of the history..:C

RE: Climatologists baffled by Global warming stall
An excellent reason for moving to alternative fuels/energy asap. You realize, of course, that most of the world's supply of oil is in countries that we have a tenuous relationship with, at best.
That is not true. ....
If you don't mind, I will take the Brookings Institute's Estimate at the bottom of page 5 that says the US has 11.8% of the world's oil. Somehow, I can't believe that 11.8% is MOST OF THE WORLD'S OIL SUPPLY.
Does that include the oil in the Bakken Formation, under Eastern Montana and Western North Dakota? The last I heard, the estimate of the oil under there (where the enviros will NOT allow any drilling) EXCEEDS the oil under Saudi Arabia. Then there are the known offshore oil fields off the West Coast, and in the Gulf, where the enviros also will not allow drilling.
Also under parts of Manitoba and a huge chunk of southern Saskatchewan. It will be interesting to see this develop over the next decade or so.
You are chasing your tail with that info because the oil companies prefer a tight oil supply market and high oil prices that equal record profits.
Your correct re: oil companies. Hard to beleive that they can do as they please.

Just "stoking" the subject without taking a position.
Interesting. I read about this development in a British newspaper a few days ago.
Isn't Mann the guy who developed and publicized the now infamous "hockey stick" graph? You remember, the graph where, when other researchers got the program and plugged in random nonsensical numbers, the resulting graph showed a "hockey stick"?
I'm not sure...there has been a lot of odd stuff going on....nothing surprises me anymore.

Am I just being provocative....;)

You provoked a few people, but none of them has provided any proof, or links to outright dispute what you claim. :W
Until they do we will just go with what you posted as the final word. :B
I concur with your thoughtful, well reasoned argument.
BTW...did I ever tell you about my race (in 1968) against a '68 Charger 426 Hemi, Torqueflite tranny, I had with my '67 Camaro Coupe RS, 327 V8 with Muncie 4 speed, Firestone red line tires?
I beat the Hemi 3 out of 3.
I have an 'educated' foot, came out of the hole at about 2500 rpm...my launches were in a word...beautiful.;)
Meanwhile the lady driving the Hemi...just nailed the 426 with 2 quads.
She sat there...not even moving as those 8.95-14 tires churned into molten pools of rubber and nylon.
We did this 3 times...before I finally just moved on to look for something...a little more competitive against my 327 V8.:C
426 Hemi...tell me about it ! :R
You need to line up against another Hemicar...heck, make it Dave Dudek's 4000+lb high-option (even power windows) 1969 GTX, Hemi/automatic, on F70-15 Polyglas tires. You can even have a 396/375 Camaro SS (or a cross-rammed 302 in a Z28) with 4.10's (4.88's on the Z28) and a Detroit Locker, wrinkle-wall slicks and traction bars!
And you won't have a prayer. Stock heads, stock intake, iron exhaust manifolds, stock Carter AFB's, stock leaf-spring suspension...it's a mid-10-second car and traps at close to 140.
It was a joke. I should of said that, I suppose.
RE: Pony cars in NASCAR?
From Wikipedia Nascar manufacturer championships
1960: Ford -- 1961: Pontiac --1962: Pontiac --1963: Ford
--1964: Ford --1965: Ford --1966: Dodge --1967: Plymouth --1968: Ford
--1969: Ford --1970: Plymouth
Don't see Chevrolet there anywhere:b:b:b:b:b:b:b

You're right. But then, GM pulled out of racing in 1963....but just days before they did...they thoroughly demolished Ford and Mopar with the Chevy 'Mystery' V8...at the 1963 Daytona 500...which later became the Rat motor.
Qualifying and races speeds were well above all others with the early Rat motor. Remember:B
But you will also recall that most NHRA classes were dominated by Chevy V8's...both the famous small block and the aforementioned Rat.
I recall back around '69 looking at the records..class by class..absolutely dominated by Chevy engines. I believe it was the NHRA official news...can't recall...40 + years ago.
My point is that Ford had total performance and won a lot of big races...due to cubic money. Mopar had the 426 Hemi...fantastic engine...but it was more of a race engine...even as a street engine. A lot of guys seemed to have to work on them to keep this great, but highly tuned engine running as well as it could.
The 327/350 hp in the Nova was running vs Hemis in classes...sometimes beating them...but drag racing is all about hp to weight.
Back then Chevies had great engines...so did Pontiac, Buick and Oldsmobile...but the parent GM was out of racing while Mopar and Ford were going flat out. GM divisions did pretty well...except for Nascar which there was no factory support.
In the end...all makes ...Mopar, Ford, GM ...even AMC and Studebaker made great, hi-po cars back in the '60's. My only lament is that it didn't last long enough. :)

RE: Well this just sucks!
DH left Grand Junction yesterday headed home. Our 2008 F350 completed melted down just outside of Ardmore, OK. He had to have it and the 5er towed to the Ford Dealership there and checked into a motel for the night. Hopefully, they can look at it tomorrow, otherwise, he is headed home in a rental car. Regardless, he has to secure an ice chest and empty the fridge. Would not be surprised to see him drive up in a new truck, he is soooo frustrated right now. Say a little prayer for him and the truck.
Not a great situation, very frustrating. As it's fairly new, just a 2008, I'm assuming you still have warranty on your truck. Hopefully it will be fixed quickly and at no cost to you.
Good luck.:)

RE: Motorcycle owned by EVEL KNIEVEL.
I have a friend that has bought this motorcycle on ebay. The insurance company said it's worth 50,000.
LA Kings Ice Bike - Donated by D.I.S.C. and Yamaha 99
That custom Yamaha in the video isn't a chopper to me...it's a custom bike. I like the look of this particular bike.
Sounds like a nice thing all around raising money for a charity. Very nice of all involved.
RE: Motorcycle owned by EVEL KNIEVEL.
I am an avid motorcyclist...but never have been a fan of the "Chopper'.
It is beyond me why anyone would want a chopper.
What reason you don't like the Chopper? Is it because it can flip back when taking off from a dead stop?
Robert
Well that's a good point...a number of them with their over extended front forks and 'unusual' weight distribution are not designed well to handle anywhere near as well as a sportbike. Basically they're show vehicles that are not renowned for handling, braking...or acceleration.
I agree with fj12rider...I also prefer form over function. I like motorcycles that brake well, handle well, accelerate well.
In my case...I would not give up either of my two vintage motorcycles...my '78 Yamaha SR500 or my '67 Matchless 750 G15CS Scrambler.
RE: Climatologists baffled by Global warming stall
8.1 I don't think many people don't believe that the climate is changing. The real questions are is man effecting that change and what to do about it, if anything. At the time, I wasn't aware of the climate crisis in the '70s that has been referred to (I was only 8 or so then), based on what was said earlier about one of the recommendations to solve the "cooling" problem was to try to melt the ice caps, I would venture a guess that it is a good thing that the people of that time didn't rush out and implement that plan. Unfortunately, you see and hear the same call to action when no one is able to accurately predict what the consequences of a particular action would be. As you said, the climate is enormously complex and my fear is that we are going to spend billions (that we don't have) to try to solve a problem we don't fully understand and that the solution will end up creating worse problems.
Yes I agree...I do think many accept that the climate is changing...this has been the pattern ...well..forever as near as we can tell.
Why and what to do about it, if anything as you have indicated...is the question .
RE: Climatologists baffled by Global warming stall
I recall from reading (not from being there) that a time when scientific research was severely limited based on preconceived ideas was when the church thought the world was flat and that everything revolved around the earth. That was not a good period for someone having independent thoughts. I would hate to see that happen again.
I agree with your analogy.
In my view, true science and true scientists, should be open to new ideas...not to dismiss them off hand with scorn. BTW this does not apply to all scientists.
I realize new ideas may threaten a life's work and focus , grants, etc...
To amend an old cliche...there are only three things in life that you can rely on...death, taxes and...history repeating itself.

RE: Health Care
Health care in Canada IS NOT FREE.
All Canadians pay for it through our income taxes, and sales taxes on things that we buy.
IT IS " Universal " and that means that every Canadian citizen, and legal immigrant is covered, with no one being " excluded or cut off ". No one in Canada is being forced into bankruptcy, by medical bills, and no one here is making a plea to get funds for their child to get a kidney transplant.
With everyone paying into the plan, and our non profit publically owned hospitals, with local boards of directors, we get the care we need , when we need it.
Don't listen to the US heath insurance lobbyists, Canadians are happy with the care we receive, and no politician in Canada would do anything to change the system. Improve it, yes, but not to reduce it in any way.
Sixty years is the length of time that we have had this system, and we like it just fine.
And , as for that line about "socialised medicine " don't you all ready have that ? Medicaid and social security, I think it is called ? Funny how the right wingers can't get so worked up about having fire departments and Police departments in their towns ? Aren't they examples of "socialised community services " ?
Jim B. Toronto.
I pretty well agree with Jim. As a 60 year old Canadian, who has lived in a different parts of Canada (Western Canada- Manitoba / Alberta) in my life I have found the Canadian medical system works fine for me.
Most of my life I have been healthy, but there have been a couple of occasions where my health was not great...where I needed the services of a specialist...twice.
I didn't have to wait but a very short time and I was ushered into the specialist offices, received CT scans, the works.
My experience with the Canadian medical system is that if it is elective ...ie; my choice for something not too important...then there will be a bit of a wait...not too long. I had a knee scoped, it was my choice as the knee was in some pain...minor and I was feeling pain when I bent down.
Specialist saw me in March...he asked me when I wanted my operation...late spring, summer or fall. I chose fall as I had planned summer activities with my family.
Fall it was...October. My knee feels better than ever.
BTW....as Jim says we have universal health care...didn't have to sell the farm or anything for my treatment. It's peace of mind.
Last summer I met a fellow from the U.S. mid west...my age, my profession, similar health...except he lives 500 miles south of the border. The only difference for the most part between the two of us, is our citizenship.
It is in some respects, a tale of two cities as it were.
I'm retired...he's working...as he wants to keep his health plan was his rationale. He's worried what will happen when he does retire...what if he or his wife get seriously ill. Will he be able to cover any health expenses.
RE: Would the government stop the sale of GM?
Let 'em go, we taxpayers can't afford to bail 'em out anymore.
Feel the same way about Dodge too ...as I see you own a Dodge?
It's getting to the point that North America will make nothing ? Don't know how an economy can survive this way with little or no manufacturers.
I can't think of too many items that are built in North America any more. Think it behooves us to save what little there is left.
We have three GM's...bought new, made in North America...two in the US, one in Canada. We bought domestic rather than import to help our North American economy.
BTW there are two countries, two federal governments that provided money for the bailout...US and Canada.
RE: Pony cars in NASCAR?

Am I just being provocative....;)
How many would pay $100 a seat to watch 43 426HP stock pace cars go around the track instead of 850HP Cup cars ?
I was always a fan of the stock classes at the drags, back in the '60's...so I guess that makes one.

RE: Where did topic: 'interesting, mini van and a 31 footer' go?
There was no point...in continuing it. It died a gentle death, mourned by some.;)Regardless which side of the fence you are on (and we both know full well how we each stand) I thought good points were raised by both and the thread could have simply been closed to further debate.
I don't understand why it was deleted such that no record of the discussion can ever be referenced, ever, by anyone, again. That seemed excessive and unnecessary.
I don't completely disagree with you Caddy.... re: the final deletion.
Although some good points were made, I think in general they have been made before in previous skirmishes of the Minivan wars.
I do think that the only way that the question of whether minivans can handle more than 3500 lbs. + is for manufacturers to rate them higher.
I don't know if this will ever happen as there seems to be no move on the part of the manufacturers ...at all.
