RE: New truck break in period.

This is for Dodge - right from the owner's manual. • Do not tow a trailer at all during the first 500 miles (805 km) the new vehicle is driven. The engine, axle or other parts could be damaged. • Then, during the first 500 miles (805 km) that a trailer is towed, do not drive over 50 mph (80 km/h) and do not make starts at full throttle. This helps the engine and other parts of the vehicle wear in at the heavier loads.

RE: Exhaust / Engine brakes and RAM problems

i do stand corrected. The transmission controller is required for use with the automatic transmission. Thank you for the correction!

RE: Ford fifth wheel hitch

I believe Ford uses the Reese Elite 5th wheel hitch. Also, there are other brands of 5th wheel hitches that use the "Industry Standard" installation kits. I'm not sure what the 5th wheel prep kit includes, but if it's just the wiring and the sub-structure (According to Ford's website), I would think you can put any hitch in there you want to.

RE: Exhaust / Engine brakes and RAM problems

Just FYI - any year Manual Transmission is fine for exhaust brake use. The '05 Auto can not be used with an exhaust brake at all, unless you replace the tranny. There were (when I owned one) no known upgrades that would support the exhaust brake on the '05 Auto. Just FYI.

RE: Chevy 2500, Why $20,000 for diesel ?

No foreign cars for him. Only Chevy Ford or Chrysler. Sadly, my 2011, custom ordered, "Imported from Detroit," Dodge Ram 3500, was built in Saltillo, Mexico.

RE: Transfer Switch Questions

Grizzly - I'm guessing that you are referring to a residential stand-by generator (For your house)? Here's the question - usually, when these automatic stand-by generators go into their "exercise" mode, they do NOT transfer power. Does yours test itself under load? If you don't have to reset your clocks and everything, this may be a non-issue for you.

RE: Newbie needs imput from 5th wheeliers

Coachman 5th Wheel Here you go. The picture looks right too. We just looked at one of these this past June. Exactly what you are looking for. Talking to the dealer here in NY, you are very close to your price range.

$495 for an 8' Bed w/ tailgate and over the rail. $450 option on a brand new truck.

RE: Good price? If not where should I be

That's what I was saying - for 1 year old, and all that stuff - I think it's worth it.

RE: Good price? If not where should I be

I think a local place (Here in Albany) had a 2012 on sale for ~$39,999. It does not have the Generator, the 2nd A/C or the washer & dryer. I don't think that's a bad price - considering what's included.

RE: Anyone ever moved furnace exhaust?

If you're using electric baseboard heat in the sunroom, why don't you just get 1 or 2 electric heaters for the inside?? Then the furnace usage would be a non-issue.

RE: Which 1 ton to buy??

Just one thing to keep in mind. You can NOT get a short bed dually from Dodge, unless you get the Mega Cab. This, in turn, gives you a truck just as long as a Crew Cab. I have the Crew Cab, and 2 small kids. I can put them in the back seat and they barely can kick my seat (BARELY...lol). Also - the BIG deal - the Mega Cab GVWR (Auto, 4.10, SLT) is ONLY 10,500lbs. The Crew Cab (Auto, 4.10, SLT) is 12,300lbs. Just in case the extra 1,800lbs of capacity is a big deal to you.

Keystone Laredo 335TG vs Coachmen Chaparral 345BHS

Looking at these two units. Wondering if anyone would like to chime in on either? Quality, build, etc... Thanks in advance for any input you could give!!
