RE: Cali beach or waterfront

If you can get their early in the week, sunday or monday - Faria or Hobson beach camp grounds just north of Ventura have beach front sites with hookups.

RE: switching to a pop up again

We recently decided it was time to trade in our pup. It was our second- the first was a colemen 2000 Santa Fe, but when my kids were teens it felt a little cramped, so we traded it in for a used 2004 Fleetwood Sequioia - a 14 ft highwall. That was great, but then the kids left for college, and it felt big and a rather ragged.
We were sad we could not get another Coleman. We did consider the Somerset line. Aliner bought out the Coleman plans, etc,and are making a similar model. But there is no dealer nearby, and honestly, they do not seem to be too together yet. Maybe in a few years.
So, we looked at Jayco line. We felt it was a bit of a step down, but it also had some nice features, but we did not like the dealer. Since we are not handy people, we rely on the dealer. Then we looked at Starcraft (which is pretty much the same as Jayco.) Liked that dealer even less. Coachman- seemed junky. No Forest River pup dealers nearby.
It was frustrating. We really want a king sized bed, so we can sleep with our feet facing into the trailer, so no one needs to climbover the other. Then I noticed Trailmanor has a new small model that has a king sized bed the 2417. We went to check it out. We were impressed with the unit, it seemed well built but also had the simplicity I wanted (we decided not to get a toilet this time round and in the smaller model the toilet is an option). We also liked the dealer (Custom RV is Ontario, So Cal). We were not so thrilled with the price, but we bit the bullet. It is a great unit, much easier to set up then a pup, and more comfortable. It is way sturdier. Love it.

RE: A problem I never knew existed.

I have seen people complain about lack of hookups at primitive campgrounds. You have to read the reviews. I also like the positive comments paired with a 1 - someone just does not understand how to use the site.

10 year rule? rarely seen, and if the rig looks good, rarely enforced.

RE: Chevrolet Roadtrek Refueling

I had that problem with my 2005 Toyota 4Runner. It was actually a malfunction on the part of the car. It did not happen all the time, but by the time I had it fixed it was happening most of the time.

RE: Private Campground on the Beach in So. Calif?

There is an expensive private CG across the highway from the beach at El Capitan Canyon.
There are some first come - first served CGS in Ventura and SB counties.
I find it is usually easy to find cancellations at state parks if you can be flexible when/where.

RE: Need or want?

A dear friend rarely gets to go out with her PUP anymore, but when she does she *needs* electricity for the heat. She has rheumatoid arthritis.

RE: Where are we?

Out by Red Rock near California City?
Bob in Calif.
And we have a winner!!
Red Rock Canyon State Park
This is one of my favorite SPs and it is less than 2 hours drive from my house in Pasadena. But, I would like it more if there were a bigger ranger presence, or even a host. Without that there tends to be some inconsiderate people. But, if you can go midweek it is truly lovely. Very primitive. No hookups or dumpstation. Vault toilets (but they seem to be installing new ones. The one near us still had that new pit toilet smell)
In the afternoons you can often see some interesting flights taking off from Edwards Airforce Base.

That one's easy: Devil's Garden in Arches.
Didn't know the place but I know the Trailmanor. We had two over the years. Sorry we ever sold our last one.
It was our first trip in our new Trailmanor. We love it.

Nope, not there either :-). BTW, I just had to cancel a bit trip to Utah because my mother is ill, so the Arches guess made me very happy. Clue - it is in California. Now I think I have made it too easy.

RE: CG recommendation near Portland, OR

I have stayed at Portland-Fairview and Jantzen Beach and both were perfectly pleasant RV parks. Jantzen Beach was near the airport, so there was a lot of noise.

RE: PUP Awning worth the darn?

Our last pup - on one of our first trips, in the middle of the night the wind kicked up for 5 minutes. No wind for the entire 3 days visit, except for that 5 minutes. It tore the bag away from the hard rubber strip that mounts the awning to the trailer. We took it off, and never missed it. I finally fixed it and reinstalled it to trade it in. This was a high wall trailer with an axle flip so it was especially difficult to put it away when the trailer was set up.
Our new pup does not have awning. Too much hassle.
