RE: Best Parks near Birmingham Alabama

Birminghamsouthcampground.com is a KOA park. Convenient to Birmingham!

RE: 2016 Jayco Precept 31UL Class A Motorhome Update

I am sad to read about all of your issues.I would think that Jayco would want to get this issue resolved in the fastest way possible. No matter what ends up happening you will still lose money because of it. There needs to be better regulation when it comes to RV's. After the sale no one stands up for their products except for a few manufacturers. The RV industry needs to be held accountable for design mistakes and also shoddy installation of products. No consumer should be left sitting with no RV while the manufacturer refuses to get things fixed.

RE: Using "mode" on Allison transmission

Great Article Brett. It explains the economy mode completely.

RE: Weather Tech Mats for your tow car.

They are expensive but laser made to fit well. They keep all the sand out of my Cadillac. I was apprehensive due to the price but now I won't be without them in any vehicle I own. They fit perfectly and go up the sides so very little to no dirt or sand gets on your carpets. They are easy to pull out and wash or brush off too.

RE: Camping Word of Tampa

Way too many issues with Camping World! I for one would never purchase, take mine in for service, or give Camping World the opportunity for my business. Their lack of caring for their customers that do purchase RV's and extended service contracts I feel sad for them. I see and hear more negative comments vs good comments that I stay away from them. I used to order parts from them but very little anymore. It is always an after the fact,"we will get you to someone for help" when it is already too late to repair or fix the lack of good service!

RE: CAT Service

I have the same CAT engine in my 2001 Beaver coach. That temp is very good....mine has always ran at 182 for a coolant temp. I took my DP to my local CAT service for convenience because its only 15 minutes away from home. It turned out to be a huge mistake on my part. A few things to have repaired and it turned into a 3 1/2 month screwup by them. Then they tried to be dishonest and not admit their errors until they were caught red handed. Then they had to admit fault!

RE: Some Tips for Choosing a Dinghy

Honda made an AWD CRV and Element. I tow a 2011 Element. Lots of room inside for bikes and large stuff. Very flexible seating. I didnt think that Elements were towable. They are not listed on the FMCA list, only CRV's and the fit!

RE: Flat Towing Honda Element

if you go to fmca.com the main page has a link for all towables for several years in pdf format. Honda only has the CRV except the 2016 forward and the Fit is listed for a few years as towable.

RE: Some Tips for Choosing a Dinghy

Great article. Jeep Wrangler unlimiteds are going for as high as 45000 now for 2017's. I got a great deal on a like new Cadillac SRX two wheel drive three years ago which are 4 wheel down towable.

RE: Running roof air

I run my genset and roof airs all the time. I spent over 1500 getting my compressor, receiver/dryer, new ports and fully serviced dash ac working. It stayed cool for about two months. Now they want me to drop it off to look for a leak. I said at $130 an hour I will leave it broke. If you have a 40 ' motorhome the coolant lines run from the back of the coach to the front of the coach and a nightmare to find leaks.

RE: Was retirement for you a good or not so good choice?

I was medically retired from the Air Force at 38 years old. Sent back from overseas with a temp disability retirement , evaluated at Keesler and Medical Board said to retire me. Wife, two teenagers, no car, no home, very little income. We made it work, stayed with family a bit and wife became a nurse and worked a lot. We got situated and were doing ok then we were rear ended. Wife has neck and back injuries, had to stop working and get disability. So we both are not able to work anymore.

RE: 2009 Monaco Knight Elect. step problem

Dave, very carefully check the connection under the steps. These sometimes pull loose and get corroded causing the power issue. I just replaced my step motor and cleaned all these connections up.

RE: PDI walk through tomorrow

And last but not least, don't let them intimidate you. Stick to your guns and make sure they realize you know what you are looking at and whats right and not right. I had a salesman get an attitude over all the questions I was asking. He tossed me the keys, told me that I knew way more than him, look as long as we wanted, then drove off on his golf cart! True story!

RE: PDI walk through tomorrow

The above recommendation is a very good one. Once you leave with it you are just a number in line to get any work done, warranty or not. Let them fix the issues while it is still there. Then be sure to check everything they did to be sure it is fixed right and works correctly. I had warranty work done on my frig and I picked it up and brought it home. The next day i went to turn it on and had no power to it. I checked the outside panel and everything was disconnected and they never did the work! When I called they didn't believe it, till I told them they will have to come to my house now to do it, an hour and 1/2 away!

RE: Replacing RV kitchen faucet with regular household faucet

Take the old one with you to get the proper size. I know Lowes has a ton of them and it gets confusing without having the old one along.

RE: Tire blowout video on I 26

I had a guy in a similar coach to my Beaver 40' that followed me for 20-30 miles on Interstate 75 in Tampa of course it was in a construction area as always. I kept my speed down to 40 as they had barricades all along the side and it was skinny to drive on. As soon as we got past the construction the guy passed me in the left lane quickly and I had sped up to 60 already. He was out of site in minutes. About an hour later I pulled in to the State Park and there he was parked and setting up. Guess he had to get there a certain time....?
