RE: Nuances of driving a DP

I use the economy mode all the time.......
exhaust brake I use if in town or lots of traffic, if I get out on the open road I turn it off and try to use the cruise control as much as I can if on mostly flat highways. I also up shift or down shift manually going up and down hills, the computer won't let you shift crazily and will override inputs.

RE: Norcold 1201LRIM Stopped working

I just had the same problem 3 weeks ago. We got to the campground after driving 5 hours...an hour after we hooked up to power the frig light on the panel went out...frig cooling unit was replaced last March 2012....
I checked the recall box and red light on.....I tried the reset with a magnet, it has to be a strong one, hold it over the area by the red light and move around slowly, it will click and light will go out.
Only do this for a short time though....my red light came back on again...so I bypassed the recall box by connecting the 2 12v wires from it together skipping the box....I know it's not safe for us to do....I kept a close eye on temp....I took it to service and recall box bad.....replaced under warranty from Norcold.

roof material?

I want to clean and redo my Beaver DP roof. Does anyone know what type of roof a 2001 beaver coach would have. EPDM, Rubber , Fiberglass?

RV weekend sale!

We went to pickup our used DP on Friday after having some repairs done to it. They were having a sale with free hot dogs, soda's and burgers. The service writer had to run around finishing finding and installing a hubcap that was on the work order from 2 weeks earlier.
We had a burger and drink, and I thought why not look at a few RV's while waiting. Well, I asked a sales guy, who was sitting in the food tent area on a golf cart, is the 2000 Beaver Marquis still available or has it sold?
He proceeded to look at his sales paper and said yes it is. I have no idea where its parked though. I waited for him to use his walkie talkie to find out but he just sat there. Guess he didn't want to bother finding out, and not interested in sales. I don't get these guys at all, aren't they there to sell on commision and make money on their sales. Or are they just there to sit around and take up space for 40-50 hours a week?
I don't get it. At that point I wasn't interested in looking there or especially ever trading there.....I was under the impression they were top notch at service and sales.....guess I was mistaken.

RE: Don't Buy and Old Motorhome Unless...

Some people have to buy used Rv's as they don't have 250-350 thousand for as new one that depreciates 50 thousand instantly.....
we take a chance when we buy, using our knowledge if its a good one or not when we hand the money over.
But I would rather spend a few bucks here and there for repairs, not have a monthly payment for 20 years, and have a new coach that has many issues too.
Just my opinion, and bash all you want, I am tough!

refer, leveling system, lr slide

Well, I picked up the DP today after being in the shop for 2 weeks. The Norcold Refer shutoff box went bad and had to be replaced.
Also the LR slide wasn't working on last trip. They tried it and worked fine(what else is new).
Then my leveling system by SCM wasn't working very well. They said it worked ok...... Tried them and still not good. The Beaver Company only had this system for 2-3 years before Monaco took them over and stopped using that system. So, I guess there are no parts available to fix it. Next choice is to have a system by HWH installed( $$$$) so we will see what that's going to cost!

scm jacks inop

Well,My DP has been at the shop for almost 2 weeks. Called today about the leveling system. I took it in because system making lots of noise and slow to adjust jacks.
This is a 2001 Beaver Contessa Naples 40' with a magnum chassis and SCM jack system. They told me fluid is full but can't repair as parts are obsolete.
I asked if they got them to work(service writer) and he didn't know. So when I pick it up I will ask for the tech to explain it to me in person.
If I can't use the jacks(they don't go to the ground, level on the top of axles on a plate.) Do I just level the old way...with plastic blocks. He(service writer says to replace would be $1000's!???

RE: Starting a diesel every 30 days.

The most my DP sits in one place is waiting in the service department lot waiting to get repairs done. Going on 2 weeks sitting and still not moved. Snowbirds getting stuff repaired before they go North have priority over Florida RV owners it so seems.
