RE: Stabilizing camper

Just use one jack to raise it at each corner, and near the center suspension, and put it on blocks.

RE: Norcold sporatic operation

I think "middle of the night" is key here. Since that is when the outside temperature drops to its lowest point your refer is probably shutting down due to having achieved low temp inside. There after when the thermistor calls for flame (due to rising inside temp) I believe the problem lies in the re-ignitor periodically failing to relight the flame when needed. Clean the contacts on the re-ignitor and the board itself. If it were the burner assembly it would more likely happen at anytime.....Brian

Thanks everyone for your responses...looks like lots of options. I'll go back to the hardware store and just change the way I'm asking. Seems like none of them can think outside of the box.....Brian

RE: JAYCO DESIGNER BRAKE LIGHT (UPDATED 06-10-2009)

I also think it is a bad connection, expecially since you said it dims, that usually occurs when there is a connection that is not tight. You may have to actually pop out the light assembly (its easy) and check the twist connections there.
"Periodics" like this can drive you nuts, so the best course is follow the electricity;
--- Make sure the truck output (receptacle) it truly ok
--- Check the trailer umbilical cord connecton (at the plug itself)
--- If your wires go to a box under the overhang (fused) check there
--- Pull the light fixture and check wire nuts (expecially ground)
--- With it out, also remove the lens and bulb to check socket for corrosion
As stated by the prior poster the filament/contact is the same for the brake light as it is for the turn signal. Your brake lights are really just both signal lights coming on at once. Make sure your tailights are of equal brightness...a dim one usually indicates a poor ground. Well I'm sure that is enough to get you started. Good luck on your hunt. If you find it please let us know so we all benefit....Brian

RE: Winegard Batwing versus Omnidirectional

I have two friends that replaced their bat wings with the round omni directional. Neither was happy. Their compaint was that is actually had a weaker receive capability and was in fact quite directional. I cannot say what the outcome will be in the HD (UHF) world. Others may have had a better experience.....Brian

RE: refrigerator not cooling

I'm sure all the fixes being proposed here are worthy....however, you say the refer is only six months old. Why don't you get it fixed under warranty, and get on record that you have a problem????....:h Brian

RE: Linoleum lifting

The "cracking" sound you hear is the adhesive trying to retack to the backside of the lino. I "assume" you are out of warranty. Even then, since this is "structural" take a run at your selling dealer/manufacturer. If you really want to do it yourself....I have used a toilet plunger to lift the lino at the offending spot, then inject (with a syringe) a thin glue of your choice through it, release the plunger, and use a rolling pin to push the glue around to avoid any bumps. Don't use a fast cure glue. Sounds old fashioned, but it works for me.....Brian

Do a google search for trailer parts....a place called www.ETrailer.com comes to mind. Also a place called RedNeck trailer parts, sorry I don't have site addresses, but your search should pop them up....Brian

RE: Chasing a leak

I also think the rusty screw is just part of the path the water is using going from the top to pin overhang. Unfortunately the actual leak itself can be quite a ways from its first point of appearance. I would be looking at vent openings, cap/roof seal (especially where the topside trim meets the edge of the cap), clearance lights, and any other through the skin/roof penetrations (antenna??). Just my 2cts...Brian

RE: Ongoing Saga

First of all...as said you really need a meter. While the converter may be working the real issue is "is the charge reaching the battery?". I like to check my converter output charge to the battery at the battery itself. Unplug from shore power, remove the positive battery cable, plug into shore power, measure from the CABLE you just removed to ground, that is what your converter is putting out to the battery. Since you have a new battery we will assume it is holding charge.
I agree with the prior poster it is sometimes amazing how much is lost through bad/dirty connectons......Brian

RE: Refrigerator

So the real crux is do you truly go out each weekend. If so, I'd say leave it on, assuming you would have to turn it on 24 hours early to get cool enough (thurs), anyway. If you are periodic weekend campers leave it on if you are going out next weekend, if not turn it off. I have never seen any difference in the life span of a refer that is on 24/7 vs on and off as needed. The only difference would be the energy it consumes during a non use period....Just my 2cts...Brian

RE: keeping fridge cool while travelling

Interesting that no one has even asked if you truly have a three way refer (12vdc/propane/110)...I doubt it.. So in the truest sense of the word, no it will not run off of 12vdc unless it is a three way.
However, that said..12vdc is required to run the refer on propane (ignition/valve/sensor/thermo). Most of us just let it run on Auto and it does its own thing while travelling. If you are worried about the 12vdc draw it is minimal and the charge wire hook up present in most umbilical cords will take care of it. Your question was pretty brief and leaves a lot unsaid...hope this helps.....Brian

RE: Solar panels and inverters

With all due respect...."you don't know the advantage of solar", "don't know the size of the panel being sold for $200", and "want to know if you can run your A/C off of it". You've got to be kidding!!! In your case I suggest you find someone who is a professional and can "fill in" your obvious knowledge gaps before you spend useless money and time.....Brian

RE: Water Leaks on Both Sides of Roof

MIKE...if you are unsure it is always better to get to a professional....that said, I hope you have better luck with Camping World than many others have had. I personally think you would better off locating a dealer who is experienced at this kind of thing. Can you still check with the manufacturer to see who would be their authorized area repair center for this (is Okanagan still around??).?
However, whichever way you choose to go I think it would be a mistake to tell them exactly what you want done (trim removed/replaced/sealed/Eternabond......etc). If they do what you say and you still have a problem the onus is on you, they just say we did what you told us!!!! I would point out the stains, offer an opinion, and clearly state "you just want the leaks fixed!".
Just my 2cts, and Good Luck on whatever avenue you choose to pursue...Brian

RE: Water Leaks on Both Sides of Roof

Mike, prior poster brings up a good point....is your leak truly at the roof edges, or does it originate somewhere else, run across the rafters and just show up in the walls??? As long as I was sealing I would coat over all of the roof openings. Also check the tension on the A/C mounting bolts although most leaks here will drip straight down.. Hope all of this stuff helps you out.....Brian
