RE: Maiden voyage

We have a 2004 Compass 30RLS and love it. Just big enough but not too long to get into most spots.
We installed a MorRyde to the compass and the ride is smooth.
Prior to this we had a 24' trailer. On the way back from Alaska it felt like it was swaying/pulling to one side. When we got home my brother took a look and one axle was slightly bent.
Good Luck and have fun

RE: tires for Fifth-Wheel

Due to rim size I have stayed with Maxxis. They have taken me to Alaska, and around the country 3 times. We travel every summer for 6-8 weeks and put anywhere from 6K to 11K on the tires each summer. I am on my 3rd set. Each set has lasted 5-6 years and still have tread. I purchase new tires due to age. They are great tires and never have given us any trouble.

RE: How long to make you HAPPY??

Length is a trade off. If you enjoy State Parks, smaller campgrounds in National Parks, and Forest Service campgrounds then 30-32 feet is about the limit. Even at that length some FS campgrounds are too short. We look at RVs all the time and feel that our 31' gives us everything we really need. We are not full timers but travel 6-8 weeks every summer. Good Luck on your quest.

RE: Can I get away with?

I ran into uneven wear last summer. My tires were old so I bought all new tires. However, the reason for the uneven wear was due to my brakes sticking on the one wheel. An RV mechanic I trust readjusted the brakes. If that is the case and the tires are not too old just change out the 2 on the one axle.

RE: bed clearance

When I purchased my Mor Ride pin box I put it on myself. They are heavy but I rigged up a system of blocks in the bed of my truck. You should be able to obtain the clearance you need by adjusting the pin box. Good Luck

RE: 5th wheel boondocking

We only use Walmarts if we need to or will be shopping there and plan to stay from evening to early morning. We ask permission if there is no other RVs in the parking lot. They also tell us where to park. When we park we put out all slides and stabilize the RV. We don't put any chairs, mats or other outside accessories out. Some locations have a few RVs and others end up with over 50 by the end of the night.

RE: Chocking on a steep hill

A set of Rotochoks and almost any block will work great. I have used the rotochoks ever since we purchased our 5er and have chocked on some steep grades temporally. They are very solid. The chocks under the wheels are for backup safety.

RE: First big trip in in the books

We have always had 2 batteries and now run 2 6 volts. We can dry camp 5 days without using the generator depending upon temperature. We always run the fridge on LP. It is possible that you ran the battery down too far before charging. I don't believe you can completely top off a battery with a generator unless your not using much power. Glad the trip was good. Now you can start extending trips to see the country.

RE: Dry Camp

We dry camp up to about 5 days. Usually that is as long as we want to stay in one place. We have 2 6 volts and do have a generator. We use and inverter for TV and other items not normally on battery power. With 70 gallons of fresh water we have no problem with fresh water, we just are smart on washing dishes and showers. Many times we go from dry camp to dry camp and just find some place to fill up with water and dump if we have to. If you enjoy quiet and true camping you can't beat dry camping. Good Luck

RE: How to Haul the Canoe???

We have Yakima racks on top of the truck and a goal post rack from Thule on the front. You can install a 2" receiver under the front frame. It is a great setup.

RE: Chemotherapy

If you are talking about mouth sores one secret is to brush your entire mouth. Biotene helps but I was given a prescription for a solution that works well but you wont feel or taste anything for about an hour. At UCLA they call it the magic mouth wash and my pharmacist knew about it. It has lidocaine, maylox, and one other component. Good Luck and best wishes.

RE: Generators?

Only if you purchase a cheap one that is noisy. Hondas are very quiet!

RE: What all comes with a brande new TT?

You should get everything you need to use the unit. However, the hoses are short, thin, and cheap. they should show you how to use all outside hook-ups, water, drain (black & grey), electrical. You will see what you have when they do. Depending how you camp, dry, partial hook-ups or full RV service you will need some of the following. Longer electrical cord (we carry min. of 50'), possibly and extension to the sewer hose along with several different attachments, longer water hose (we carry 100' of regular hose plus 50' of a collapse-able), and some type of leveling blocks (we have 4 bags of the orange links). this is probably only a starting list but should give you some ideas.

RE: Tire develop a flat spot

i just had that problem. Luckily my tires were old but the last trip caused a flat spot. It was a brake dragging on occasion. Readjusted the brakes put on new tires and the world is good.
Good Luck

RE: Tires

The trend is putting LT tires on. I have 235/80 R16. I have been told there is not much in this size for LTs so I put Maxxums (ST M8008 10 ply)back on. The last set lasted 5 years and wore well.

RE: Mt Rainier

Depending how long you plan to stay you might start In Ashford and take a drive up the mountain. There are a few campgrounds closer to Paradise and the visitor center. I believe there are no hook-ups. We spent a couple nights 3 years ago. There are many trails to take and views from the Hotel. With a spotting scope You may even be able to watch some climbers make their way up. Here is a bit of trivia; Every year they seal up the hotel. Some winters the hotel is completely covered by snow, levels up to 100'.

RE: ROcky Mountain National Park

If you want to camp I agree that the West side is a better option. they have a number of campgrounds with a variety of settings, lake, streams, forest. We prefer to camp and enjoy the view from our campsite and spent time on both sides a few years back. Yes I drove over the top with our 24' TT, wow! It is a beautiful park, enjoy

RE: Looking to camp in Montana

Glacier Nat. Park is a definite site to see. You need to decide which side you want to come in from. The West is much greener and there are other great places to camp near by. The Flathead Lake region is just beautiful. You really can't go wrong in Montana. Have a great trip.

RE: Kayak Rack for your TV(pick-up)

I use a set of Yakima racks on top and a goal post from Thule. You can see it on my profile. I have hauled canoes with a Suburban and a set up in the back of the truck when I pulled a trailer, this setup is the best and extremely sturdy. Good Luck
