RE: Bryce, Zion, and other Utah park campgrounds now?

This coming Thursday and Friday (Oct 1st and 2nd)here in Utah is UEA. All of the public schools are out and they'll all be out and about for the last camping trip of the season. Good luck to you. Perhaps pull into Utah Sunday afternoon and enjoy yourself then.

RE: Bike rack ?

Another VOTE for the THULE. I have looked into a number of them and the higher end seem to be worth the extra money. Have a great time.

RE: Personal experience with Hitchhikers?

We bought our 2007 HH II 34.5 IKTG just this past April. Was New on the lot full warranty. I've had it on the road 49 days 8550 miles and can't wait to go again. Nice thing about a long maiden voyage was I was able to test most of the systems and I learned alot. Had a few problems, biggest probably a leaky window we think it was installed without weep holes. Couple other things on the list to fix when I returned. All addressed without question. Had occassion to call from the road seeking help a number of times. Called the Shop where I bought the 5th wheel and they saved my bacon a number of times. Haven't had a reason to speak to the Manufacture in Kansas but one reason I sought out this make was their reputation for customer service. Very happy with the trailer. There are many great makes but for the price and weight this one suits us. Safe Travels.

RE: Favorite Savannah Georgia campgrounds

Stayed again in Skidaway this June and enjoyed it immensely. Had a 36 ft 5th wheel no problem. They do have showers, nothing great but can save water that way. W/D avail if needed. Pool wasn't open then. I am sure there are many parks available this time of year. Enjoyed the tours. There is a FREE water taxi only has three stops, its a great refurbished vessel...Only on it for about thirty min if that, also a FREE Trolley along the water front as well. And lastly a FREE shuttle bus around town taking a very similar route to the TOUR Operators. What a great city. enjoy yourself.

RE: Gas vs Diesel

Tom,
I haven't owner a big gasser. I will tell you though that when reading this forum before making my purchases all were very helpful and sincere. I ended up with a 5th wheel at 13,600 GVWR and a Chevy 2500HD Diesel..Duramax combination. Just returned from an 8500 mile 49 day trip and the truck preformed GREAT. I was at 20,400 CVWR. I love the tow-haul feature. Coming downhill the engine brake is fabulous. Good luck with your dilemma. It's a fun one to have.

RE: Golden Clear Creek RV Park, Golden, CO

MPNLW44,
My parents live in Golden and I have walked thru on numerous occasions. A great place on the creek in a small town. Walk every place you need to go except for the Grocery. Two blocks from the REC center, a great facility with everything you'd want. Watch the kayaks in the Clear Creek in the shade. NOW all that great stuff aside..It's my understanding that they don't take reservations...City owned first come first served. How long did you wish to stay? If just a day or so en route to another destination..I have just this past July stayed at the Jefferson county fairgrounds. Basically a gravel parking lot with a few sites (about 5-6) along the roadway next to a sidewalk and a grassy area. Nice bathrooms with showers and overall for a couple nights very tolerable, Around 25 a night. Dakota ridge in Golden also very near I-70, Haven't been there myself but From what I hear closer to each other with nice amenities, about 47.00 a night.
Safe Travels,

RE: Long Island New York to the Outerbanks

Happy Camper,
WE traveled 13 and the Chesapeake bridge and tunnel about the third week in June and had no concern. We were towing a 36 ft fifth wheel. Had planned on stopping at the Bridge visitor center but felt pushed to continue as we had alot of traffic behind us and I wasn't sure if I could make that sharp turn. Would have been nice.
Stay away from the congestion in the DC area. My two cents.
Travel safe,

RE: SKIDAWAY STATE PARK, GA

Woodlm94,
Sir we were in Skidaway SP about June 22nd. I don't recall our site number, but I recall about four loops that had plenty of availability. Easy to just drive around and pick one out. The swimming pool was closed when we were there.
Enjoy your stay,

RE: 101 so of Seattle thru Oregon

JIM,
Did the entire coast last September and can't wait to return. Definitely will be some narrow spots but be patient and let the wife enjoy the view. Some days we made a whopping 50 miles and those were the best days. Stop at the BOWPICKER right across from the Maritime Museum in Astoria in the gravel parking lot for GREAT fish and chips. Don't miss Shore Acres, beautiful gardens. Sunsets from any beach. Super views from all the lighthouses.
Have a great time.

RE: Best Route from Ennis MT. to Island Park Id.

SS,
The drive from Ennis, Mt to Island Park,Id via 287 until joining 87 isn't bad at all and is certainly shorter. What beautiful country. On your way south stop in Idaho Falls and have lunch by the Snake River at the Falls. Great little stop and easy to get around. About 8 minutes east of I 15. Have a safe trip.

RE: Best route from Golden, CO to Custer, SD

Tami,
Just left Golden from the Jefferson County Fairgrounds the 18th of July dragging a 36 ft 5th wheel. Was visiting my parents in Golden. I have been there a number of times and used to live in the area. Just jump on I 70 East either from CO 58 or Hwy 93. Follow I 70 east to the I76 (left) exit east which will drop you onto I25 North towards Cheyenne. Very easy going. I'll let you decide from Cheyenne.
Drive Safely,

The day has come we are outta here !!!!!

We depart on our maiden voyage being pushed by our new 2007 Hitchhiker II LS Sunday May 31st. All 35' 9" of her. I have been looking forward to this for some time. Retired just over a year ago. A wedding in CT to attend June 14th. Friends between here and there to visit. Pick up the nephews ages 4 and 5 in CT and take our time returning them to Ft Lauderdale. Wife flys back to SLC I drive the Dog back...Lucky me. Then off to a wedding in California July 18th. May just drive the car to that one, and the dog stays home, I hope, guess I better check with the Boss.
What I'd like to ask at this late date is for some advice on the DO'S and Don'ts fo pulling this length. I have driven our Tent Trailer over 18,000 miles in the past 17 summers, 5 kids in tow and if I have half the fun from here on out it will have been worth it. Sold the Coleman just this morning, A dark could over head. You may have seen me in years past, 5 bikes mounted on top and yes that was me in 2001 heading east over the George Washington Bridge in NYC. Good GOD what memories.
Thank you for the therapeutic rant.
Looking forward to your input. I have learned many things from this forum over the years and I am certain that I am just on the leading edge of the next learning curve.
Thank-You,
M.J. McKay

RE: Salt Lake Utah

Folks,
I liked the Antelope Island recommendation as for no other reason that it is a unique view of the Wasatch front from over there. An old homestead there that is open for viewing. If you decide on staying along the front consider Cherry Hills along Hwy 89 in Kaysville, UT. Great for younger kids say (3-11), a water slide, mini golf, camping, playgrounds. Lagoon is alot of fun perhaps but a pricier ticket. Don't know how much to camp there but a nice campground, Noise from the rides until quite late. Downtown SLC about 30 min from Cherry Hills is great to walk around with all the flowers. Beautiful grounds.
Just called C.Hills and FH is 38 a nite for the first two people. Most of the waterslides will open June 5th, Mini golf opens weekdays at 3:30. The phone number is 801 451 5379. Have a great time where ever you end up.

Travel advice from Reading Pa to New Haven Ct.

Planning on leaving the reading area on June 11th. Taking I 78 to 287 west of Newark continue North to the Toll section turning east into N.Y.around White plains and over to 15 N.E. into CT.
Is this doable with a 36 ft 5th wheel in tow? Is the Toll section open to those of us towing a trailer? Thank-you for the input in advance.

Cleaning and waxing the Fifth wheel

Have enjoyed this forum for years and just this past Monday we picked up our 2007 Hitchhiker II. No previous owners but has sat on the lot for two years and I like to clean the rubber roof an wax the unit before we set out June 1st. Got on the roof and noticed more chalking than I expected. What is a safe reliable product you would recommend for the roof as well as to wax the rig? Any thing to absolutely stay away from?
Thank-you in advance.

RE: Fort Stevens SP Oregon

Dear CREW...
Just spent September on the Oregon coast from Astoria to Ca. down Hwy 101. Can't wait to go back. Stayed in FT Stevens SP...GREAT PLACE. Loved Astoria. Run across the bridge to Cape Disappointment WA. Maritime Museum was wonderful..Astoria Column what a great view WX depending. GOTTA eat at BOWPICKER they drive from Portland to enjoy the fare. It's an old fishing boat just south of the Maritime Museum in a parking lot surrounded by cars. Great Fish and Chips. Canon Beach Artsy Fartsy ...we walked around for hours along the side streets enjoying the homes, beautiful town. Didn't notice where you were coming from. If its from the east get off I 84 at Hwy marker 35 and drive the old Columbia River gorge HWY. GO slow and enjoy everything from waterfalls to Crown Point.
Wishing you great weather.
