RE: Maxxis Tires - Interesting information?

LOL, your trusted tire guide gave you a story in order to sell his inventory off. I wouldn't trust him anymore!
My trusted tire guy - and friend - ordered the tires.
Should have known better than to try to contribute anything to this forum... You guys already know everything.

RE: Chevy Silverado 1500 Max Tow (NHT)

It's rated to tow 10,400.
My nearly identical truth has 1,770 pounds payload capacity.
(Edited because I shouldn't have been a horse's a$$.)

Chevy Silverado 1500 Max Tow (NHT)

We're at Topsail Hill State Park, and a couple here in the campground are towing a Crusader 5th Wheel with the TV in the subject line. According to Primetime's web site, their lightest 5th wheel has a published dry weight of 8,444 pounds, and a tongue weight of 1,200 pounds. The things you see sometimes... (shaking my head).

RE: What to do with TV shelf

I removed ours and put it next to the picture window in the back. Makes a good place to put a cup of coffee or adult beverage!

Maxxis Tires - Interesting information?

It was time for new tires on our tt in signature. The OEM tires were Mission, 225 75 15, load range C. My VERY trusted tire guy had been selling Maxxis for years, but just stopped becuse of multiple failures and customer complaints. He sold me - and recommened hgihly - Loadmaster (Greenball). They are very obviously "China Bombs," at least according to the prevailing opinion here on the forum. However, my tire guy assured me he will stand behind them. I know the Missions that I replaced were also made in China, and the DOT code was the 16th week of 2008. Interestingly, never had a failure, not even so much as a flat! I dif go up a load range on them, from C to D. Price, out the door, was $529 for all 5 tires (I also replaced the spare). We'll see how good they are!

RE: Silverado 1500 Towing

I'd dare say that most on here with the strongest opinions have never actually towed with the TV in question.
Will it tow it? Yes.
Will it like it? Not really.
Will you get tired of 3500 - 4000 RPM? Probably.
Until you can afford more TV, keep it under 65 MPH, with properly setup and adjust WDH and sway control. You'll be as safe as 99.9% of the general population.

RE: I am very proud of a great friend's work

I don't know how heavy it is, and neither does he... but we are both "guessing" in the 5K +/- range.
Yes, that photo was taken without w/d or sway control.
The coach was made in America, and the driver's side door is original.
Why don't folks do a LITTLE bit of research before they spout off about that which they have no knowledge?
(For a start, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spartan_Aircraft_Company)
I've asked for them to e-mail me some inside shots, but I don't know if it is even worth the time and effort to post them here...
Yahoos :(

I am very proud of a great friend's work

I just have to post this here.
I have a great friend who started an incredible project years ago. At the time, I thought he was crazy... I still do, but in a good way!
Last week, they took a shake-down cruise in their 1947 Spartan that he literally rebuilt from the axles up. When he got it, it was nothing more than a shell. The craftsmanship inside is incredible, with more than 10 different species of wood. I don't have any pictures of the inside right not, because he wasn't done the last time I saw it. However, I will say this: His work, and this restoration, are incredible.
Way to go, my friend!

Replacing the A/C & Heat Thermostat - Got Questions!

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
I've already seen the online information from Les Adams, which is very helpful also!
1st - How do you get the old one "open" To remove it? It is a Dometic, and I don't want to tear it up removing it, in case the new one fails.
2nd -The Hunter model 42995 is no longer available. Will the 42999 work as a substitute?
3rd - Will I still need to add a switch for the A/C fan speed?
Thanks again!

RE: St George Island SP, FL

As far as backing, all the sites are pretty wide, for the most part, so you you shouldn't have much trouble in any of them.
Mosquitoes? Yeah. Everywhere... get a Therma-Cell and forget about them!!!

RE: Making threats to get a refund

Here's one other thing to think about:
If she is of low enough character to make a threat like that, she is ALSO likely enough to LIE ABOUT IT. In other words, she will post her review as if she stayed there, and trash the place. On the other hand, she could do that even if she never stayed there (or even had a reservation at all!).
I'd refund that battle-axe's money, and put her on the "do not serve" list. I'd also send her a very nice letter explaining why I did that.
Will it make a difference in her life? Nope.
You cannot change what other people do... and you're not responsible for what other people do.
You can only change your response to it!

RE: largest gasoline engine ...

Think that the first year in the silverado was the '10, when it replaced the 6.0 liter in the "Max Tow" option package. It's been in the denali since about '07, if I'm not mistaken. I like mine...FWIW. It sure does sound good! :)

RE: largest gasoline engine ...

Not a 3/4 ton, but the GM 6.2 Liter in the Sierra & Silverado puts out 403 hp and 417 torque. Equipped with the "NHT" package, rated to tow 10,700 pounds (IIRC)

RE: One last Hensley question, I promise (maybe)

Those look like really cheap grade nothing fasteners. Get something quality like Grade 8. Use stainless, cad plated, or black oxide. Try a Fastenal store or ask for grade 8 at HD, Lowes, or auto store. You have a $2K hitch - don't cheap out here.
Uh, no. Don't. They are shear bolts, and you want them to shear. Grade 8 bolts would not do their job!
The Hensley owner's manual calls for "5/16" Self-Tapping Shear Bolts" and pictures something similar to the latter. I actually used the former, 5/16" lag bolts, on mine. They've never sheared...

Kudos to Dometic

I took all the shelves our of our Dometic fridge for cleaning after the last trip, and lost one of the little plastic "grommets" that hold the wire shelves in place. I couldn't find one on the web, so e-mailed Dometic customer service...
They're sending a replacement, at no charge. I just thought they deserved to get a little positive publicity as appreciation!
Thanks, Dometic!
