RE: converting jacks??????

Oh, and I learned on this forum, you don't need a drill bit.....just a hex head bolt works great.

RE: converting jacks??????

I use my drill with manual jacks. Once the jacks get under load going up, the drill no longer works. Coming down it works fine. Either way, using a drill going up or down, reduces the hand cranking for me by about 75%.

RE: Outfitter Questions?

We have a 2007 Outfitter Apex 8.
Our electric waste valve switches are marked. The switch with the black label dumps the black water tank and the switch with the gray label dumps the grey water tank.
The potable water tank has a spigot that will drain the tank. The only other way to drain the potable water tank is to pump it out.
The converter does have a fan. Ours seldom runs. We have a shutoff switch for disconnecting the batteries from the load side. If you don't have a marine style switch to disconnect the battery it is a good thing to add.
I would also call Bob Ward he is very knowledgeable and a pretty good guy to work with.
Good Luck.
Rick
This was very helpful Rick. Thanks for the response.

RE: Tire Pressure Question

Ok, still not sure I have my answer. Let me see if I can simplify my queston. I live in Texas. After I have loaded by camper, should I set my E rated tires at a cold psi of 80 no matter if it's 30 degrees or 100 degrees outside?

RE: Tire Pressure Question

Need to change my profile, I did have a dually when I had an Arctic Fox, but traded down to a smaller Outfitter.
Here is why I asked the question......when I put in 80psi cold at a warmer temperature, as the tires warm up my inside tire pressure sensor reads closer to 80, than when I put in 80 cold at a very cold temperarture....as the tires warm up then the psi goes much higher.

Tire Pressure Question

Hope this isn't a silly question, but do you make adjustments to your tire pressure based on the outside temperature? In other words, you load the camper, fill your tires to 80psi.....do you put in less than 80 if it is very cold outside?
A secondary question is, how much do you trust your tire sensors that give you tire pressure readings inside the truck?
Thanks.

RE: Can Anyone Recommend

I guess it does make a difference if this is for storing at home or using at the campground. You do not want to take a dolly or 55 gallon drums on the road. :)
I need these for storing at home.

RE: Can Anyone Recommend

look at the plywood 'X' supports that some people have built. They can be stored flat and they will provide a stable platform, especially when the jacks are also used to split the load. I believe somewhere on this forum there are pics of these in use . Cost is 1 sheet of 3/4 plywood-$30
I use thes they work great.
This sounds like a great option. I will search the forum and see if I can find how to make these.
Thanks for the reply

Happijacs Question

I have manual Happijacs. Can anyone tell me where to find a hex drill bit large enough to use my cordless drill instead of the hand crank before the jack is under load?
No luck at Home Depot or Lowes. Thanks.

Outfitter Questions?

I have a 2004 Apex that I have now used twice (love it).
I have a few questions that I can't find in the manual. I was hoping someone here could help.
1. The valve release levers are not marked which is the black and which is the gray? I am thinking black is the lower one?
2. When I dump the black/gray tanks, does that dump all of the water in the camper, to include the potable water? If not, how do I do that?
3. I hear a fan running while on battery power. I believe it is for the converter? After a couple of days sitting, the fan drains the battery and then the CO2 detector starts to alarm regularly for a low battery. Is there a switch to turn off the battery power or do I need to manually disconnect the cables?
Thanks for any help.

Can Anyone Recommend

A simple do it yourself structure to support my camper when it is off the truck? (In addition to the jacks of course). Recently repaired the 2 front jacks and want to try and take some weight off them while unloaded if possible.
Thanks.

RE: Am I the only Idiot?

I want to thank every one for the replies. I am waiting to talk to Bob from Outfitter tomorrow, but unless he has different instructions, have already found someone to weld a front angle and bottom support to the jacks. That was a really good idea.
I can laugh at myself a little more than I could shortly after my mishap. So, here is what I did. I was unloading on a side section of my driveway that I have to back into. It angles slightly down. So my plan was to put the back jacks down on the concrete and lower the front jacks on blocks to make it easier to keep the cabover angled up. Got everything jacked up, no problem. Was pulling out the truck slowly when I heard the sickening noise I knew wasn't right. I screwed up and missed removing the rear torklift tie down on the passenger side, so it caught the jack as I pulled the truck forward and pulled it right off the block. The back of my truck kept the camper from going completely over. But the driver side rear jack was a couple feet off the ground, and you saw what it did to the passenger side front. It also pulled the bottom 2 screws from the driver front jack, but not as bad as the passenger side was. So, there it is. Moral of the story....make sure ALL FOUR tiedowns are removed before pulling the truck out from under the camper. I'll bet I don't do that again. :)

RE: Am I the only Idiot?

Thanks everyone for the replies. This is a 2004 Outfitter, that is new to me just a couple of months back. I spent last nigh sulking inside, but will get out today and see if I can see the corner from the inside as suggested. I have also emailed and sent the picture to Outfitters to see what they suggest.
It looks to me like the previous owner made some changes to the jacks and these little slotted screws don't look like they match up with the original holes.

RE: Am I the only Idiot?

Looks like it's time to take the bracket to a fabricator and upgrade to a bolt through assembly, that's going to be a mess to try and fix to work as it was.
Can you give me a little more detail on this? What is a bolt through assembly?
thanks.

RE: Am I the only Idiot?

Pic didn't show, but if the screws are into wood, could you inject epoxy adhesive into the holes, making sure to get all the way to the end of the screw hole; fill the holes with the epoxy and then once epoxy is thoroughly set put the screws back in?
Will that work and hold long term?

I have no idea how to fix this. Do I take to an RV/truck camper dealer? Other ideas? Really appreciate some advice. This is an 04 Outfitter by the way.
