RE: can I run my tv on inverter???

for dry camping I bring an extra 12v deep cycle, inverter and batt charger. this setup runs my sat reciever and tv only. house batts are untouched. when we run the gen I just hook up the charger and give the batt 10amps. this is very effective and we can dry camp for a week and watch a lot of tv without using any house batterys.

RE: Gas engines any preference?

One thing else that hasn't been mentioned is the much more plentiful number of service sites for the Ford vs the Workhorse.
I guess that's important if you own a Ford. :B
LOL...good one
...but I'll testify my old v10 and F53 is rock freaking solid, but its nice to know if I ever needed I can get parts or have the rig worked on just about anywhere.

RE: MH's and ski resorts in CA

try crowley lake rv park, lower than mammoth so you shouldn't have as much snow.we've stayed at mammoth mountain rv a bunch of times in winter.
Check out the winter camping thread.

RE: Dish Network

I use a DISH reciever from my bedroom in the rv. sometimes I have to hunt to aquire the right bird and sometimes it can take 20 mins with my kvh dome. once I hit sat 119 and a good transponder I shut off the power to the dome. Then run a check switch and accept the new changes. download the guide and we're good to go. Once home I rehook up in the house and run the check switch and accept the new changes.
hope this helps.

RE: RVing in the winter

OK I have a problem with my screen door icing on the bottom and freezing shut along the bottom. I've had to use a hair dryer to thaw out the bottom edge to get out of the rig. Any suggestions?

RE: RVing in the winter

Halogen lights do put out a lot of heat but so much so they get scorching hot to the touch. Be very careful they are not near anything that can melt, catch fire, etc. We've had good luck with just a regular incandecent bulb or small ceramic heater set on low. Both are much safer.
Roger that...the halogens that I use have a protective shields and I place them very carefully as they throw a lot of heat. Regular incandecent bulbs wouldn't work in my wet bay as the pump is right there and very exposed.

RE: RVing in the winter

Great thread. I'll add that that bought 2 halogen lights to put in my bays. Even though The basement is heated I had a water pump freeze on a very cold night in mammoth. Now I put halogens in there and they throw a lot of heat and haven't had a problem since. Carry chains, sand, shovels and brooms.I even bring a extra 12v deep cycle.
Very good info.
This thread should be a sticky till spring!!

RE: Bounder use in Cold Weather

We regularly ski camp during the winter. Each rig will be different so you have to figure out where your weak spots are. For instance on my rig the water pump is in my wet bay. So after experienceing it freezing I put 2 halogen lights in there to help keep the bay warm. Even though I have heated bays it wasn't efficient enough to keep the wp from freezing under 7 degrees. Use your propane heater not an electric one, that way the bays will not freeze. I close the slide during storms. By winter camping you will get better at it. We don't run around inside the rig in shorts...even with a good heater its cool inside and we have to wear sweats and slippers. Winter camping is fun and a challenge at the same time.
