RE: How much Brakes does a gasser have?

I wanted to post a reply to the original topic. Upon further investigation the original owner had only replaced front components. He was told it did not need rear. (not his fault) Well we pulled the rears and there were no linings left. Steel to steel. In fact I had never seen this but the rotor on the rear drivers side was cut so deep that it had seperated from the hub - it was in two pieces. New hubs and pads and brakes are much better - still can not say they stop on a dime but they will stop.
Finally this unit only has 60K miles - for the brakes to be destroyer in 60K miles is proof that these brakes are under engineered IMO

RE: How much Brakes does a gasser have?

One reason I got rid of our Coranado P32 brakes. We're same on our 97 Pace Arrow and our 87 Alegro. Needed an angkor to throw out if you wanted to stop it.
Thanks for the post. That's who I wanted to hear from, someone who had experience in this same motorhome. I am not bad-mouthing the chassis, I just wanted to have some ideas of what the braking expectation should be. If the brakes are undersized and the stopping distance is very long I think you just live with that. You just watch your following distance much more carefully and plan your stops accordingly. Actually I can drive pretty much without brakes if I am deliberate about it. I think this is what my friend is going to have to learn. I don't think there is reason to spend a lot of time, labor and money, searching for a fix that's not there.

How much Brakes does a gasser have?

I friend of mine has purchased a 1992 Fleetwood Coronado on a 1991 P53 Chev. Chassis 7.4 gas. He said prev owner just installed new master cyl. and front and rear pads. He does not think it has a lot of brakes - I drove today. My only experiance has been in a DP with air brakes. Certainly this chev chassis has nothing like the brakes I am used too. I know this is a general question but any ideas on just how much stopping power these units were designed with???

Norcold 1200 Follow Up

Sorry I left this post hanging. I was away from my computer a few days. Yes I posted this recommendation for Sam at RV Refigeration in Monroe North Carolina.
I have a 2005 Fleetwood Discovery. The refrigerator never worked right. I had it repaired under warranty, recalls and paid to have control boards, resets etc. While traveling. Then at Myrtle Beach it quit all together.
I found out about Sam and took the unit to Monroe. He rebuilt it using these modifications. (This may not be complete but this is what I remember)
He rebuilt the cooling unit and increased the coolant level for higher output. He disconected and removed the icemaker. He disconected some door moisture something. He installed new sheet metal ductwork in the cooling compartment to direct all airflow over the coils. He install two new much larger (and a little louder) cooling fans on a thermostat.
Now it cools better than it ever cooled new. I can keep ice cream in the freezer and drinks are very cold in the refigerator. I am very pleased. Sure Norcold will not warranty it but who cares. All they ever gave me was spoiled food. Now I have a simple thing - a cold refrigerator and that is more than Norcold, Fleetwood and their authorized minions could give me.
I am reposting because several readers though my original post was a troll by the repair shop. That is not the case. I had been reading a lot of Norcold posts on here and was posting my outcome. Take it for what it is but it is real.
IMO Norcold refigerator and Si-Gi windows are two of the worst companies in the world - sorry products that give a bad name to an otherwise very nice coach.

Happy ending to Norcold 1200 Story

Like everyone else with a 2005 DP (Discovery) my Norcold 1200 never worked right. Constant problems - constant recals - spoiled food etc. I met Sam at RV camper and Refigeration near Chroltte NC. Two years ago he totally rebuilt my unit using his method - worked flawlessly since - we can even keep icecream in it !! 704-821-9119

Tires

After a lot of leg work I think I am going to go with the Michelin XZA2 Energy in 275/70R 22.5 I think this tire is a load range J. My current Goodyears are load range H. Local tire shop has in stock, is familiar with the FMCA national account, and seems to be on the ball. He is the only shop willing to spin balance the tires and not just use beads in the tires.
