RE: tent trailer 8 pin wiring?

Red thanks for the link. It's going in my favorites. Lots of cables that are almost impossible to find.

RE: Thule SmartRV Accessories

Question? Just what is it that was discontinued? I seem to find everything that I remember on Their site.

RE: Starcraft Wiring 2012

If I understand your description the fuse is for the TV to camper line. Yes, it is needed. In fact on one of my older PU's a had a short where the line entered the frame and with no fuse I had a melted mess from the trailer to the car. The car fuses did nothing to stop the mess.

RE: NASCAR tires

Might as well go way off track with this thread. (pun intended) wny_pat Was correct as far as construction goes. BUT, the tires have about 150 combinations Goodyear makes for NASCAR's three series. Compounds and contruction can vary according not only for each track, they make them for each position on the car/truck as well. I can remember a race several years ago when 3 tractor trailers full of tires pulled in and there was a maniac rush to pull all the right front tires and replace them with a different compound and construction as the tires that were there were lasting about 15 laps. As for cost Goodyear figures they lose at least $700-$800 a tire over what the teams pay per tire. This comes from GoodYear's advertising funds. I can remember as far back is when Goodyear and Firestone battled for each team to put their tires on. Not to mention the couple of years even Hoosier got into the act.

RE: Honda 2000 Starts and Runs 15K A/C

Let us know how it handles being run on constantly low voltage...it will eventually cost you a new A/C unit... Seems you are not up to date on the inverter type gensets. One of the main features of these is they hold their voltage right up to the point they go into overload and shutdown. Even in their "surge range" which that over their continious rating they hold the nominal voltage.

RE: Question on "the cloud"

JMHO but there's a difference between "clouds". Corporations can have "internal clouds" operating off their dedicated servers to keep common data base access, lesson copies of software, etc. Than the "cloud" Apple and others are using over the open internet. I agree with just not trusting the open internet clouds just yet.

RE: CB question

WHew brings back memories. The fuse tap is the best and easiest place to get power. One thing to remember with any antenna placement can make a LOT of difference. The one in the clicky is a good one but remember the camper will block a lot of signal strength to the rear. As a note, we had a real fanatic back in the early 70's when CB was "king" that actually drilled a hole in the center of his sedan's roof and mounted a full length 108 inch whip antenna on there. Hell of a ground plane. I also actually miss tube CB radios. We had lots of combination to goose the output. Some as high as 12 watts output. IIRC we're in the high solar cycle output time. So be prepared to keep the squelch up high and have your range shortened.

RE: Nitrogen in trailer tires

Had service done and when walking back to the truck I noticed green valve caps. When questioned the service writer proudly told me they had fill my tires with nitrogen as a "free customer service". I replied you'd better start digging in the trash for the custom valve cover caps or fork over $40. They took them off an employee's car and replaced the green ones with mine.

RE: Honda 2000 Starts and Runs 15K A/C

Most likely you have one of the newer power saving models. We've found a great percentage of A/C's will run on 2K compared to the older model A/C's. Measured draws on newer ones averaged about 8-9 amps running and 14-15 amps on starting for 13.5 K BTU units so they are within the constant apmerage range of the EU2000i gensets. We had only one 15K BTU unit to test and it was an older one that would drive the 2K into overload. As a side note: both Dometic and Coleman still sell the older versions so look the specs over closely if you need to buy one.

RE: GMAC Insurance

Leaks are concidered maintenance items and as such any damage caused by them is not covered. As an aside, insurance experts say to review your insurance needs and get quotes at least every three years. AND to actually see what coverage the quotes cover. Many folks think they are covered for items the policy say are not. Been bitten by that one myself. Even after the agent was given the old policy and told we wanted the same coverage.

RE: Favorite Strawberry Desserts

Sharon, most likely you are trying to post using RV.net. There's been a problem with certain characters locking up the posting function. Even us moderators have started using other portals such as trailer life, woodalls, etc. Try one of them and I'll bet you have better luck.

RE: Homestyle Tuna Pot Pie

just a heads up. If you plan on using canned chicken try it first before stocking up the pantry. It's texture and taste are quite a bit different that what you might be used to for cooked chicken.

RE: 1984 Starcraft Constellation

Clint, some good news for you. Outside of the roof, cabinets, and walls everything else in the PopUp was sourced from outside. Which means if they bought it so can you. There might be an issue of the part or parts being no longer made, but we've found replacement designs are available and in most cases require no mods to install. As to where? PPL motor homes and Camping World are placecs to start. We have great results in Google searchs for any specific part as well.

RE: The Chinese are getting into Camping

I agree a hope for a larger middle class in China, for more than one reason. That they can have a better life and do things like RVing/camping, not to mention at the risk of going political; the larger the middle class the higher the wages and the greater cost for Chinese merchandise. which would help level the playing field.

RE: Trans temp gauge

And then it begs the question... where to put the sensor if your going to put in a separate gauge. Do you put it in the pan or on the output of the transmission? we've found the sensor/test port location or output line to give far better results/info than a pan sensor. the problem with pan sensors is it takes a lot of heat to change the large mass of pan fluid. not to mention it's gone through the cooler. We've had transmission fluid cook/burnt without more than a few degrees of temo rise with a pan sensor. We've had massive fights with trans cooler makers as they want pan sensors which show how good their coolers are, even with burnt fluid.

RE: Awning up and fell off!

Good news and bad news. The good news is both A&E Dometics and Carefree of Colorado both sent quick replies. The bad news is neither will supply the bag only. I asked a couple of folks and the last recorded getting of a bag only was way back in the late 90's. In those days both were small almost family run businesses and not part of large corps as now. For those in this fate try marine suppliers locally. The marine Uphostry folks seem to have lower pricing and the materials available to do the job. As a side note: those folks who have a problem with the cording used in the slip in part of the bag, we just use 1/4" cotton rope. Holds up well, and so far we've had no repeat failures where it's been used.

RE: Favorite Strawberry Desserts

Call me a heritic or flame me, but I grew up on frozen strawberries half thawed and those off the shelf little desest shells with the depressed centers. With a ton of whipped cream. That though was fresh made by mom. Even today with fresh berries I masserate them for several days in the fridge them, then slightly freeze them. Something about the crunch of the semi frozen berries just brings back memories. I do make a real nasty 6 layer cake. cutting each layer into thirds. Then using fresh cut strawberries, vanilla pudding, and hot fudge layer them up. With one filling for each layer, giving you two layers of each. Coat the whole thing in whipped cream frosting. Not for the diet conscious or diabetics, but oh so good. NOTE: I do two layers at a time and refridgerate to firm them up. Had one done on the counter with out the refridgerating and had to watch it Sliiiiide down the counter. :)

RE: questions about 2001 coleman niagara elite belly

Doing stuff to the inside of the structurewood or plywood is fine. Just keep the undersides open. If doing anything to the inside was a problem we'd all have floors that fell apart in short order.

RE: Awning up and fell off!

While I haven't had to do it myself other than getting a new zipper installed at a local marine shop. We have had others get bags in the past. I sent questions to both A&E Dometic and Carefee of Colorado for any info on getting the bags. Local dealers were no help in this.
