RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Our vinyl flooring has had some major damage from the severe cold here and split in 4 places. ripped it out when we got home from camping last Sunday. Just finished installing new cushioned vinyl last night. it looks and feels great. I will get a pic tonight.

RE: Dingy

We like towing our Subaru. We use the ReadyBrute Elite towbar/brake. Manual tranny in neutral and key in first position

RE: Ideas for things to do with 7 & 9 year old boys

Some things my son likes to do:
Geocaching- bike riding
shooting sports, anything from rubber band guns, archery, BB guns or air soft
leather project like a belt pouch. a medium sized knife pouch holds a matchbox car pretty good
survival bracelets
sand castle contest, and destruction!
flying kites on a windy day.

RE: How can I get Allure flooring to GLEAM!!!

Armstrong Shinekeeper is a good high gloss floor polish. they also make a Satinkeeper for a low gloos look. it will help fill scratches and scuffing too

RE: Class A Front Window heat loss - need advice

we bought some window quilt material "WARM WINDOW" from the fabric store, and made some insulated drapes that velcro to the sun visor of our goergetown. replaced the side curtains with the same material to the front windows are all insulated. they are also black out shades since it doesn't get dark here in the summer, we use them year-round. Ended up making these insulated black out shades for all the windows.

RE: cooking over an open fire

OK, i don't give this one away too often. take a fresh pineapple and cut the top off, then hollow it out. take a small smoked ham and carve it to fit into the pinapple skin. pour on half a jar of honey. cook directly on the coals until heated through. I usually chop up the pineapple, combine with the other half of the honey, add some red pepper flakes for some sweet and sour souce. cook some minute rice. serve the sweet and sour ham with souce over the rice.
heat some cooking oil in a dutch oven to 350. cut pillsbury biscuits in half and deep fry them. drop in a paper bag with cinnamon sugar and shake, watch them dissapear!

RE: questions about installing floor under toilet

You want to go around the plywood with any floating floor, not under it. I agree a vinyl plank would beat a laminate in the bathroom. Good luck

RE: creative snow removal ideas

We use a heavy duty poly tarp on ours instead of an RV cover for the same reason you are avoiding a cover. we store the RV in the yard until early march, then use it for a couple of months in the snow. We need to be able to get the snow off, and don't want a bunch of ice build up. depending on how many feet of snow we get (usually 3-4 feet by then) we can use a snow rake and get some off from each side, then just pull the rest off with the tarp. it would be too heavy to tie off the tarp and drive off as mentioned above. i don't worry about removing any snow until we are ready to use the RV, but you could if weight were a concern. Our snow is light and fluffy, no heavy wet stuff.

RE: second battery on jumper cables

I have done similar to what you propose several times. In my old 24ft class c, we only had room for one battery. We took it on many, many snowmobile trips to the mountains. I had two extra batteries on my snowmobile trailer, and made a long set of "jumper" cables with a quick connect fitting. I just connected the cable when we were setting up. the 4kw genny charged the batteries just fine over a long weekend. We would run the genny a couple hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening. No problems with a battery on the ground these days in my opinion.

RE: Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring............

I am an RV'r and happen to manage a retail flooring store. I have recommended and installed LVP in several RV's I helped my BIL put some in his 5th wheel. I consider the Mannington to be a very good brand. I would just lock it together and not worry about glue. Our extreme cold tends to crack sheet vinyl during the winter. We had a stretch of cold getting down to -57 F, last year, so we replaced several sheet vinyl floors this season. Good luck with your project!

RE: Driving to Alaska in the winter.... Insane?

All of the activities you mention are best done/viewed end of Feb and March. Feb can be really cold, but March is rarely below zero. That's when we get our RV out of winter hibernation to have some snowmobile fun. There are no RV parks open that time of year. When we had a TC, we added a second battery, one was not enough to run the furnace for a weekend, we had a Northern Light brand that already had a second propane tank. You will need a generator to keep things charged up. We would start the 2000 watt genset in the evening with an electric heater and just let it run out of gas, then the furnace would take over at some point. we kept the genny inside during the day to keep it warm and easy to start. Our truck was equipped with all the snow/ cold equipment. we could plug it in for an hour and always start it easily.

RE: What size Dutch Oven?

I have several, but since getting a 12" aluminum, and 10" aluminum for father's day 3 years ago, I use those on all family trips. they nest together and are still lighter than one cast iron DO. If I could only take one, it would be the 12". When we go camping with the Scouts, I take the old iron, they are tough.

RE: Lippert Leveling Sysyem Problem

On my rig, the engine needs to be running to deploy levellers. I have a circuit breaker under the entry steps near the batteries. It is all black and easily missed. maybe the trouble shooting instructions attached to this thread will help you. Not too good with links, hope it works.

RE: ford f150 ecoboost tires

I just replaced the Scorpions on my 07 Expedition EL. I have been disappointed in them. They are terrible in snow/mud. I have studded snow tires on for 7 months/yr, and the truck only has 45,000 miles. the tread is worn out, I have plugged every tire at least once, from rocks going through the tire. Had a second flat on a tire last week and bought some new LT rated tires. I tow a boat in summer, and 4 place snowmobile trailer in the winter. I always felt the tires were marginal for the load.
