RE: Pacific Shores RV Resort in Newport, OR

mllk3rd, I was so happy to see your posts about the park re-opening for renters. We used to stay often and really enjoy PSMR. We proudly wear our PSMR gear when we're out camping. We've called the number you listed twice this week and have left messages. No one has called us back. Is there a chance maybe the number is incorrect? Or, are there one certain days of the week they take reservations? We're anxious to make a visit in a couple of weeks, but its a long drive without a confirmed reservation. So happy to hear the place will continue! I'll find out whats going on and post what I find out. I know they hired a company for the web site but I don't think its up yet. Wish I was there right now.

RE: no brakes in Pismo, Ca on Class A

You can call Rory Edelen at Mullahey RV repair, 805.489.7878 and he can probably steer you in the right direction. I think there is a truck repair shop in Nipomo, about 10 miles south on 101, can't recall the name. Good luck. The place in Nipomo is Gibbs, ph # 800.800.1869 http://www.gibbstrucks.com/

Does Pacific Shores have a web site to make reservations? Can not find anything active? I don't think they have their web site up yet, its on its way, the ph # is 541.265.3750. Let me know if this doesn't work.

RE: Pacific Shores RV Resort in Newport, OR

I believe Outdoor Resorts went out of business several years ago. The properties were bought out by the homeowner's associations. Though many kept the Outdoor Resorts name, they are owned and managed independently. Outdoor resorts is still in business, at Pacific Shores they filed for bankruptcy protection in about March of this year, due to owing the HOA $ in unpaid dues on the lots that they owned. The HOA just received everything that ORA owned at the resort.

RE: Pacific Shores RV Resort in Newport, OR

Hello, Just curious is it still Motorhomes only and have the rates changed? We will be in that area in September and might like to stay there wirh our fifth wheel. Thanks Bob Sorry, still Motorhomes only, 25' or larger class A or C, the rates have been reduced to $30 - $70 a night. We had a 5th wheel for a few years and stayed at Beverly Beach SP. Have a nice trip.

RE: Oregon coast

Posted By: Lauren on 06/11/12 07:22pm Have heard - maybe posted here and could verify in a Search - that Pacific Shores is belly up and closed. No, not true. As a lot owner, I can tell you that Pacific Shores is up and running full speed. What has happened is that the developer (Outdoor Resorts of Oregon) has filed for bankruptcy. However, the lot owners (HOA) is in the process of purchasing the entire operation including all rental rights. The HOA is currently in charge and the resort is in full operation. One thing to be told is that the lots that ORO owned are now available for purchase at a tremendous discount. These lots are fully developed and would make an excellent rental income venture plus a free place to stay during the cool summer months. Ron How do review what is available for purchase or rent? Off the Outdoor Resorts website now I believe. The HOA just received the deeds to the lots, they will be offered to the public on 8/31/12, you can contact Jim Phillips @ 503.804.4773 or Gary Ruch @ 541.480.1501. The new pricing is 7-10k. Hope this helps. Let them know you got the info form Mike, lot 157

RE: Buying MH out of state

I believe the intent of the law is to allow for circumstances that happen, not to create a avenue for them to happen… Some may use the law as justification for cheating by claiming its their right to do so… a court may see things differently of coarse… If ones motive is to use the law as the avenue to avoid paying the tax you owe your intent may just mean you are a tax cheat… For some cheating comes easy for the personal rewards it produces and are worthwhile because their intent is difficult to prove so the risk of being prosecuted is low… some other may find being a persons of character is more important… Just wondered, if one pays their required taxes, per the law, are they paying their fair share or are they cheating? Should they offer to pay more than than the current tax laws require? Would that make it right in your eyes?

RE: Buying MH out of state

Hey. If you register in Oregon you should be paying Oregon income taxes too, not California. OR Ms. I think you're confused. To pay income tax, you have to have an "income". I do have property in Oregon so therefore I do pay property tax. Posted By: Oregon Ms on 08/26/12 09:48am Also.... about ten/fifteen years ago Oregon tightened up. RV dealers were helping tax cheaters by helping them establish PO Boxes etc here to establish fake residency to avoid sales tax. Didn't work. The penalties are harsh if they find out. Certain large scale RV operations here were in deep black water at the time. I don't understand being labeled a "tax cheater". The state of California has a law that was passed by their government that will allow an individual to purchase a vehicle out of state and not pay sales tax on it if certain conditions are met. So, if I meet all those conditions and follow the law to a "T"....how am I a tax cheater?? That just doesn't compute. If they didn't want people to do this, why in the world would they have the law in the first place? Think about it. This same question goes to Suzanna too. What she is alluding to is to purchase a vehicle out of state and register it in another state to escape paying CA sales tax. I'm not trying to do that. I want to use the law as it is written and will meet all conditions set forth in that law prior to doing anything. I have no intention of "breaking" the law in any way. Period! Bob...thank you. I will continue to research and try to get all the info from Pub 52. Ron Well said Ron, I agree completly, why would they even have the law then. I was told that it was enacted do to many buyers purchasing and registering large ticket items out of state, so the dealers lost out on sales. BTW, I believe its still registered in Ca., once you file the papers they decide if you owe the uses tax. How many times must the tax been paid one item, I mean it was paid by the original buyer right, so every time it's sold it gets retaxed?

RE: Oregon/Washington Coast

Just curious, what did the credit card company do, did you end up having to pay for any of the fraudulent charges? I just wonder because I always use our credit cards when possible, I don't really like carrying around lots of cash. Thanks for the info. The credit card company called two days after we used the card when we were on our way home from Oregon. (It was a Capital One card.) They covered the entire amount. But to make a short answer longer, I was so pissed about my card number being stolen that I asked the cc company for the info about the charges. One was bodybuilding.com and the other was to a table tennis online company. When I got home, I called those companies after finding their info on the internet. The bodybuilding company had already shipped whatever it was, but the table tennis company refunded the money. The online companies wouldn't give out the shipping address (even though it was my card that paid for the dang things). My husband kinda got a "talkin' to" by a sheriff that he works with. That's why we found out about the local activity in the area. He says that it just takes a second if the guy has a swipey thing. He'll turn his back to you and swipes the card, which stores the information. Then he'll walk over to the gas pump and swipe your card at the pump like nothing went on. It's obviously easier to do if it's in a restaurant and the waiter takes the card away to another room to charge the card. This sheriff suggests just paying cash... but how would I get my points/miles that way? :) What did the Chevron have to say? Glad you weren't responsible for the charges. That was my understanding that the credit card company's don't hold the card holder liable for the fraudulent charges. I'll still take my chances with the credit cards as if my cash is taken it won't be replaced and I don't need to carry thousands of $ around all the time. Safe travels

RE: Oregon/Washington Coast

Oh, one more thing (the pp mentioned Newport and it reminded me), a couple years ago we at a campground near Newport, and when my husband went to get gas in Newport (I think it was the Chevron), the guy stole the credit card number (swiped the card on something when he turned his back) and ordered $800 of stuff online with out card number. So beware. I use cash at Oregon gas stations or go to Costco or Safeway for gas. I don't think that this is exclusive to Oregon, I'm sure this could happen anywhere. We have been there many times with no problems, heck we have never even had this happen in Mexico and we always use our credit cards. I didn't say it was exclusive to Oregon. It happened here in Auburn recently - at a Chinese Restaurant. But why I brought it up is because the pp mentioned Newport and the op will be along the coast, likely giving up their credit card to gas station attendants bc you can't pump your own gas there. That was the first time RVing in Oregon for us so it left a bad taste in my mouth. When we called the Newport police dept, they didn't do anything or follow up with us. Beware of the Newport Oregon Chevron! Lesson learned: Don't ever let your credit card out of your sight. Anywhere. Just curious, what did the credit card company do, did you end up having to pay for any of the fraudulent charges? I just wonder because I always use our credit cards when possible, I don't really like carrying around lots of cash. Thanks for the info.

RE: Sandy Riverfront Resort / Portland, OR.

Thanks for the info, my daughter lives a few miles away from these so I think I'll have her check them out. So donn0128 you don't get as much train noise at Portland/Fairview RV park, a few years ago we stayed at Cascade Locks KOA and the one of the State Parks, the train noise was really bad at both.

RE: Buying MH out of state

Hey Ron, I agree with you about paying my fair share of California state taxes, besides why would they even have this law if they didn't want you to take advantage of it? If it works out for me on the next one I'll take advantage of it. BTW as I understand it you would still register your MH in Ca. PS - If all goes well we hope to be up there next week.

RE: Buying MH out of state

Hey Ron, I looked into this before, now that they have changed the time required from 90 days to 1 year it makes it difficult unless you full time for a year, so we just registered it in Ca and paid the tax. Maybe next time. Are you buying a new MH? We hope to be up soon, see you then. Mike

I would recommend Pacific Shores in Newport.

RE: Oregon coast camping, request info please

I would also recommend Pacific Shores in Newport, they are again renting out lots as the HOA now owns the rental rights.

RE: Pacific Shores RV Resort in Newport, OR

Wow, sorry to hear of their financial demise. I know back in '05 during the RV boom times, their lots were selling for piles of money when I was there. I noticed some lower prices in the MH mags lately. This has got to be an awful outcome for any owner. Really nice property which I was hoping to return on some fine day. Thanks for the info. Things are going well now for Pacific Shores, the HOA has been awarded all of the developer property and the rental rights so they are renting lots again. Outdoor Resorts did not keep up on some of the maintenance items but now both pools have new equipment and have been re-plastered, also the clubhouse have new HVAC equipment. Many good changes happening. I am an owner I am happy that we are now in control of the resorts destiny. Such a beautiful property with great people.

RE: RV Parks from Coos Bay to Longview Oregon

No, the original developer (Outdoor Resorts of Oregon) is in bankruptcy. The resort is now being managed (and will probably be owned eventually) by the HOA and is in full operation. Overrated, overpriced parking lots??? What is the cost to stay at Beverley Beach? $26? South Beach $27 (and you don't even get full hook ups)? For $50 you get all I mentioned above plus more. Parking lot? Each site is a minimum of 35x65 with picnic table and large lawn. It's quiet, safe, and lots of amenities. How can you say that South Beach and Beverly Beach state parks are "far nicer"? Do they have a huge club house with indoor heated swimming pools, spas, workout room, game rooms, laundry, golf course, dog runs, concrete pads with 50amp hookups, gated entrance, roaming security 24 hrs a day, mini mkt.... didn't you read all of this in my previous post? Nicer, my buttocks. ;>) Ron on edit.. forgot to mention that directly across the street is a rv supply store...fully stocked with the owner being an excellent rv mechanic. They also have a small rv park that will take the trailers that are turned away from Pacific Shores. again :>) X2, I agree with Ron, this is the primer resort on the Oregon Coast.
