RE: Two Rivers Campground in Nashville question?

I'm here now... no electrical problems, but there have been some wifi issues.
Overall, I agree with others here - it's a nice, clean, older park that could stand some upgrades. The staff are friendly and helpful, and I don't think you cannot beat it for the price...

RE: Hitch Weight question

First off, your 02 Excursion is rated to tow 11,000 lbs and has a GCWR of 20,000 lbs, so you need to know your loaded curb weight first. The 20k CGWR can be decieving - if you X weights in at 11k with you, your family, gear and full tank of fuel, then you have 9k left for a trailer.
Next - the hitch on an Excursion is a class 5 and is designed to carry 10-12,000 lbs. However, the suspension on the X was made 'soft' for a more 'car-like' ride, so just because the hitch can handle it, doesn't mean you'll be an enjoyable towing experience.
Finally, the only way to truly know the tounge weight is to weight it. There is a bathroom scale method to get that magic number, but the 12-15% rule is pretty close. The key to it is proper balance trailer when you load it - that is a science in and of itself.

RE: Suggestions, Meal for a large group.

I was telling my wife about your spaghetti salad and she said it sounded like the linguine salad she has been making for years. It is except for the type of pasta. She also adds some McCormick Salad Supreme. I wouldn't be concerned about dealing with leftovers because I doubt there will be any. :)
I bet we've made this a hundred times and always used different ingredients... kind of like Bubba and his shrimp on Forrest Gump, you can make it a bazillion ways. Wait, there's another idea, some cold shirmp in speghetti salad - mmmmmm....

RE: Driving at night on long trip

Night driver here as well... I prefer it for less traffic, sleeping kids and spouse.
I usually make sure I have enough drink on hand (coffee or soda) and keep a 5 hour energy drink in reach as well. I also drive with the window cracked down a bit for some fresh air. All of that keeps me awake and alert.

RE: Equalizer Hitch

Are you talking about the hitch shank? If so, it doesn't matter if it is up or down as long as you have proper ground clearence.

RE: Ford Triton engine Noise

Could also be the transmission inspection plate - famous for rattling. Something to check. If you can, get someone else behind the wheel and crawl under while they raise the rpms - when you hear the sound, press on the tranny inspection plate and see if it stops.
Also, a loose cat converter shield or muffler shield will do the same thing.

RE: Suggestions, Meal for a large group.

For a good side dish... We love to make Speghetti Salad and it can feed a bunch of folks.
Boil speghetti until done, but still firm (any amount you need), then chill imediately - we cool it down faster with ice cubes.
Chop and dice vegetables of your choice - we generally use brocholi, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, carrots... what ever you like. You can even add ham, chicken or peperoni if you like.
Add vegetbles and Italian Dressing (we like using the 'Zesty Italian' for more flavor) to speghetti and mix well. Once everything is blended together - refridgerate overnight and serve.
It's great for summer time meals since is it a cold pasta and it goes with just about anything. Refridgerate the left overs – they’ll keep for a days.

RE: maxis tires

I bought Maxxis tires 3 years ago and I've put about 10k on them so far - no problems. I wnet with the Maxxis based on reviews here and other sites. IMHO, Maxxis and GY are the 2 best choices.

RE: Charlotte, NC

I made a Google Map of the Charlotte area campgrounds when I lived there.
For extended stay, you could check out Fieldridge Acres near the airport (west Charlotte). It's not the most 'scenic' part of town, but there are a lot of extened stay RV'ers there and they are resonalby priced.
Other than that, the only other CG in Charlotte (proper) that allows extended stays is Fleetwood Camping Resort at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Of course, if your extended stay run in to race season, it may be cut short.

RE: Best route from Charlotte, NC to Wilmington: 74 or I-85/40?

Hey Will,
It's been a while. If it were comming from where you are, I'd go 85/485/74. Just make sure you go at non-peak times.
See ya in Gatlinburg... Mark

RE: Ford Trailer Harness

There is a relay that has to be installed in the power distribution box under the hood. I can't remember the which one it is, but you can refer to your owners manual.

Another vote for Ocean Waves!
As far as what to do - there is lot, but it's spreadout. That's the nice thing about OW, it's pretty much in the middle. 20 min N and you're in Nags Head - 20 min S and you're in Hatteras.

RE: Home wifi range extenders/relays

Can you SIL acsess the wifi from inside FIL trailer? It could be that FIL wifi is not adequet to access the wifi - can he access from inside? Is his PC set up for the right wifi standard (802.11b vs 802.11g)?
For range extenders, Hawking Technologies make the best on the market for home use.

RE: Majic Jack Users Beware!

There is no Uninstall for this program. Even if you stop using it, it gathers your information.
True, but all you have to do is search out the program files and delete them.
MajicJack Spyware slows down your computer even when you are not using MagicJack
No problems on my PC (2.53 GHz w/ 2GB RAM)
I stopped using mine about 2 months ago - no problems so far, I just don't plug it in. The software only starts if the MJ is plugged in to the USB. I've looked at every process running on my PC - nothing related to MJ.
I forwarded the MJ number (local back home in NC) to our new number in TX so our familes could call us wih no long distance charges. For me, it's worth the price just for that.

RE: New Orleans Hotel Suggestions

I called one hotel last night and they said "we have parking, it's $29.95 per day if there is space"...:E
I think as long as there is access to public transportation (streetcar), it doesn't reall ymatter where we stay. I just don't want to drive my big 'ol X around New Orleans.
Thanks for the feedback so far.
