RE: Stolen Camper

Looking at this makes me sick. Im also a proud owner of a short bed wide butt with a Lance 881.
I haven't had the joy to load it yet due to work and family.
Only picture I have

All vehicles are easy to steal. You just need to find out how to slow down a thief.

Ow-hopefully heals soon.
Paint wouldnt stay on the shafts anyway. Im painting my bolts yearly.
Curious the pics dont show the brackets locking-I assume just pic but only dogs I see arent engaged?
They had to reset his bone today...ouch.
They are engaged but aren't visible in my pictures.

RE: Swing bracket install help

Oops1 I sure thought it would support it.
but if i were putting it on my Dad's truck and it bottomed out and made funny noises I would quit also.
Glad you got it done. Now you can see how well that new truck handles it1
Sadly my son broke his arm so I installed the brackets and that was it.

RE: Swing bracket install help

The 1500 wasnt fine..The truck was bottom out and making odd noises so I pulled it off..no pictures. Idiot!
So I pulled the tailgate off and backed in as much as I could. (6") Dropped it until the front came off the ground and went to work quickly. 5 minutes on the first jack and 1 minute on the second. Helps to install them right side up.
Pictures..

Going to clean up the bolts and apply a coat of white paint to them to make it look better. Wont touch the shaft though, will keep that stock looking.

RE: Swing bracket install help

I should have thought of this before getting the new truck. I have no friends with HD trucks...I think the jack stands is the ticket with a piece of 3x8 lumber between them. Ill do one side at a time..
My dad has a 1500 RAM...would make for some great internet pictures and discussion. New Post " My new 1500Ram holds my Lance 881 fine"

Swing bracket install help

Installing a set of swing brackets and need some ideas...
How do I support the front? I was thinking about raising the camper and backing the truck under it about three inches and then lowering it down until the truck held just the front up. Then just unbolt and rebolt...
I have a 3ton jack but not sure how to safely do that.
Any help would be great,

RE: What Are The Upsides & Downsides To Driving A DRW Truck?

Here is a small list. NOTE: I'm considering trading for a gas DRW since I no longer drive my SRW as my daily driver.
1. The number of people who will buy them is dramatically less, so the resell market is soft compared to SRWs. Good if you want to buy a used one, bad if you want a big selection to choose from.
2. You need special brackets to load a TC and the brackets are weaker sense they are extended.
3. The individual tires are typically weaker than a SRW with higher capacity tires.
4. There is less ability to customize and most are more commericially oriented which means that they have less creature comforts.
5. They have hips and many consider them ugly.
6. They are less maneuverable by a lot due to more width and typically only Crew Cab.
7. Typically longer than a supercab since they frequently come as Crew Cab only. They weigh more.
8. They can’t park in most garages, or even make it through the entrance.
9. They barely fit or don’t fit in smaller traffic lanes. That also makes them harder to park inside the lines with them being almost 2 ft wider.
10. They are wider, so it may be impossible to maneuver between rocks/logs/trees off road.
11. The back tires float more so traction is worse without a load.
12. They typically get worse mileage due to weight more tires and less gearing options.
If you own one, you think it is the only possible choice … joking.
Of all people to bash a vehicle...its like the guy who says the 6.0 is junk but has never owned one.
I have owned my dually for a week today. I must say that its no different then my old F250 when driving and parking it.

RE: 2013 Ram with rambox with camper?

It didnt work with my Lance 881. The rear would come into contact with the narrow bed. You would need to measure your camper and see.

RE: What Would You Do?

ICP sensor.. have them check it, they tend to leak and cause the problem you mentioned. My old truck did the same thing.
I loved my 6.0 but I deleted the EGR and installed headstuds.
I just sold it and purchased a Ram 3500 Mega. As soon as my wallet recovers the EGR and DPF are gone.

RE: Finally a new truck.

Skipro3, a manual diesel is not going to have the benefits as a automatic. With my tuner I was able to lock my torque convertor at certain RPMs and adjust the shifting so the truck would not loose boost. Air cleaner wont void warranty if its 50 state legal.
My new Dodge is a snail compared to my old Ford. That will change soon..

RE: Finally a new truck.

My 6.0 is 7 years old and still fine.
I do plan to replace the egr cooler sometime in the future. Not because it's failing but because it's a known failure point. However, I do run Powerservice's Diesel Kleen year round and run synthetic oil to protect the injectors as well. The variable vane turbo is very cool, but is subject to rust if you don't drive it.
However, I did my homework by visiting Fordtrucks.com before I bought mine. If you buy a complex truck which includes all of the newer diesels, and don't look into the potential issues, you are likely to hit issues. Afterall, they aren't a gasoline engine.
I ran Valvoline blue the entire 10 years and never changed an injector. I had the studs and complete EGR delete done back in the day so I never had the common issue others did.
I also ran an SCT tuner for 8 years with a street tune putting down 400hp as a daily driver.
I would say the best thing I did was changed the coolant every 6 months. You wouldn't believe the junk that came out of the coolant system.

RE: Finally a new truck.

I have been making fun of certain Dodge owners for years. I even have a "C is for Cummings" Facebook page. My old truck is famous in the drag racing community in South Florida.
In 08 I took runner up in NHRDA against 12 Dodge owners. The only reason I didnt win is I ran out of Nitrous at the end of the track and lost by .03.

RE: Finally a new truck.

Wow the Ford blew it with 6.0 and they know it. You probably could tell by your trade in value. But congrats on the new truck. I don't like to see you leave Ford but Dodge is a awesome replacement and ya'll look really happy. Thanks for the post it's a beautiful truck and family.
Happy Camping TecheMan
I got 14k for my truck so I cant complain. The 6.0 was great to me once I deleted all the EPA******and added ARP studs.Yeh that's nice trade in there. Had you not done that work the trade would of stung. How much camper can that new truck pull?
TecheMan
Resale seems good on these trucks. Sadly I had a gentelman show up hours after I signed the papers with 16K cash.
I sent him to the dealer....not sure if they sold it or not.
The new truck is an animal at pulling but on the light side for a truck camper. Ill be over GVWR Im sure.
Keeping the Lance 881.

Finally a new truck.

After 10 year in my Ford I went to a Ram. I must say I really loved my Ford even with the 6.0 Powerstroke.
Here is the old girl at the dealership...
