RE: Ramp Door Help

I am sure someone out there has had the ramp door apart. I looks pretty basic how it goes together, my concern is the springs. We have 4 springs along the bottom of the door. I am sure they are under a pretty good load. Any suggestions would be appreciated. While doing a good cleaning after our last trip I noticed an area of the ramp is swollen and soft. It is difficult to tell where the moisture got in. On the plus side the walls and floor look to be fine. There is no load on the springs when the door is shut, you can easily remove the bolts holding it on. Your going to want to have some help available to lift it off though, they're fairly heavy. I wrapped a webbing strap around mine about halfway down and then used bucket on my tractor loader to lift it off. There is several post on the "heartland" forum as its a pretty common problem.

RE: Generator cooling.

As kinda alluded to above, the generator is designed to be ran with the compartment closed. Ours even has a sticker that says this and when we bought the trailer, the guy in the walk through said the same. Apparently they can overheat if you run them with the door open. Rather than pinching the fuel line, I want to see if I can somehow install a drain on mine so I can drain the fuel tank. I kept it full last winter, with stabil in it, and all was fine this spring, but I'd prefer it all be empty during the winter when the trailer will be winterized. Anyone ever install a petcock of sorts for this purpose? Yeah a drain on the tank would be the best, but if I recall the line goes thru the top of the tank, so you would have to install the petcock in the bottom of tank. Certainaly doable, but to far down my list of improvements at this time. Improving the fresh water holding tanks comes first.

RE: Generator cooling.

Rather than running it for an hour every 3 or 4 weeks, I just pinch off the fuel line with a vise grips and run it dry, then open up the drain on the float bowl. After drained, I will run starter for 5 to 10 seconds to get out any remaining gas. Dont like the idea of going out in 0 degree weather of January and Febuary to exercise myself, much less a generator! :R

RE: Items ordered and not used in your toy hauler

never used washer/dryer combo, (its for sale) also never used central vac. Dont remember ever going camping without using the back screen, wouldn't be without it. Our thought for the hook up is a bar sink for the garage since we weren't going big enough for the 1/2 bath; but this way it saves on all the dirt/mud being tracked into the salon/stateroom area. :D I ripped out the carpet on the stairs and hallway leading to the bathroom, and replaced with maple hardwood steps and the barthroom vinyl was under the carpet, so eliminated that concern.

RE: Need advice for 1st 5th wheel. To carry ATV

Lawn... Most Heartland Owners would disagree with you about both your quality of build and customer service comments. I understand you have had some issues but you are not the norm...kinda like me and my 6.7 Ford :E To the OP: Visit the Heartland Owners Group website. You will see the good and not so good posted there. Lot's of good information. Here is a link to the site: Heartland Owners Forum Regards I wouldn't disagree about the "quality" of cyclones. But I doubt if any make is really "quality" if you look into, and behind and underneath hard enough. But after years in the remodeling/ cabinetmaking trade I may be bias.

RE: opening up garage area in toyhauler

The reason I want to open it up is the wife and I want to make the garage area our livingroom if you will when we are watching tv and relaxing. The door that is between the wall and garage is very small it's maybe 24" if I remove the wall it wouldn't be from side to side.so hopefully that will help in the flexing. The more I get into this idea the more I am changing things like mabey a large door that I could open up when wanting it to feel bigger and yet still be able to close it off. I was also thinking about a pocket door or maybe a type of slider that could close it off when needed. Possibly "french doors"? (double)

RE: Keyston Fuzion garbage

When you you rehang the cabinet, make sure you get some screws up into the ceiling frame also. That should take alot of stress off the cabinet.

RE: 55 gal Fresh water barrels.

Or you can contact your local soft drink bottler and get their syrup barrel throw aways for free or 10.00 or so. Pump price sounds about right. I have five food grade barrels from local Pepsi Bottler free X2:)

RE: TH General info

Are you buying a F450 just for pulling the toyhauler? If so I would consider looking into a used HDT. Alot cheaper than a new 450 and you wouldn never have to worry about "enough truck" :C

RE: wheel chocks

If by stabilize you mean minimize the movement in the rig when people move around IMHO it won't make any difference. You can lock up the wheels in cement and the springs will still allow movement. We use the JT Strongarm stabilizers which help but do not eliminate movement. If the base is anything but concrete there will STILL be movement. Just my $.03. Perhaps I would be better off gettinga set of scissor jacks to place in front of axle to take some of the flex out of the springs? opinions anyone?:?

wheel chocks

when using the expandable type wheel chocks to help stabilze a triple axle is one set adequate or do I need two sets. Does it matter which axle you put them on? any one brand better than another. I do have strong arm type stbilizers in place. Thanks

RE: Fuzion or Raptor Rear Awning

I mounted two lights to the bottom of my lower bunk, there wired into the existing light circuit so they are all controlled with one switch. We also use the garage as a dining room, and this puts the lights directly above the table. We rarely use the bunks, but the wires go through an outlet so the lights can be unplugged and beds lowered if needed. Wires are all concealed under the mattres of lower bunk. Works good for us, this is on a 3912 cyclone, but might help you out.

RE: bad fuel??

thanks for the replies guy's, yes its a new trailer and yes first time i filled tank, its a 40gal, so if its the fuel in the hose then it will be yellow every time i pump right?? Yes first pint /quart not a problem with using it. You might have dislocation from everything being new but, its normal for the hose to color the fuel. X2

RE: Getting toys from town to the trails

I allways carry ramps, then load into back of truck and take to trailhead. Usually two trips. One time I asked a warden if I could just pull the 4 wheeler with tow strap the short distance (1/4 mile) and he said it was okay by him.

RE: bad gas

another option, put it in some open containers and let it sit out in the sun. It will evaporate in a few days.

RE: Cutting Fender Skirts

I would talk to Heartland again before cutting. I doubt that the folks on the line cut those skirts before installing on every TH that comes down the line. Sounds like they sent you the wrong part. Nope they cut them as they use them, thats what they told me anyway. I wanted them to cut mine to save on shipping (full length was oversize for UPS and they wanted $75 for shipping) So they cut it down for me and shipping went down to less than $20!
