RE: Where to camp north of Seattle

I'd say that you need to get a map, and then look at RV Park Reviews. That's what I do.

RE: New truck option/will this pull our fifth wheel?

Your Cougar's weight is about the same as my Cougar's weight. When I last checked the combined weight of my truck and trailer it was at about 17,500 #'s (loaded). My 06 Dodge CTD short bed 2500 happily tows this trailer all day long, and we only go where there are mountains. Not sure of my rear end gear ratio, but I know that it's not a 4.10. It's either a 3.6 or 3.7.
My truck rides level with plenty of suspension left over.
The truck you're looking at should work just fine.

RE: Best Route West

I would take I-90 all the way to Ritzville, WA, then cut down 395 to I-84 to Portland
What he said! Good route and you get to see some of the best parts of Montana, the Idaho panhandle, and then the Columbia River Gorge.

RE: Nevada 140 from N of Winnemucca NV to Klamath Falls, OR

My brother (now retired) used to patrol that road for OSP. I remember him telling me that two or three times a summer they would get a "driver freeze up" at the top of Doherty Slide. Someone would see the shere drop off with no guard rail and would freeze up unable to move any further. My brother would have to drive the rig down the grade for them, then get a ride back up to the top to his patrol car.

RE: Eastern Oregon

The town of Sumpter is well worth the day trip. There is camping nearby and actually, with some ghost towns etc., maybe a weeks worth of camping. Good fishing also.

Dodge Tranny Issue--Again

I have a 2006 Dodge 2500 CTD 2 wheel drive. In Aug 2009 when the rig had 27000 miles on it a "front end pump" went out. I took it to the local Dodge dealership, and even though the truck was 6 months out of warranty due to time, Dodge picked up the bill, less $100. Dodge replaced not only the front end pump, but the torque converter. I was a happy camper.
Fast forward to yesterday. My truck now has 42,000 miles on it. The past two weeks I've noticed an obvious tranny fluid leak that looks exactly like the leaks I saw before having to take it to the Dodge dealer in 2009. Now, the dealer tells me that they have verified a leak coming between the bell housing and the engine. For $550 they would be happy to pull the tranny and verify the source of the leak.
At their suggestion, I called Chrysler/Ram and asked for assistance with this issue as the truck has only been driven 15,000 easy miles since the last problem. I have received an email telling me that I have a "case worker" assigned but nothing more.
I'm hoping for the best, but expect the worst. What else can I do to get Chrysler to pay for this as I think that the repair should have lasted more than 15,000 miles.

RE: North Cross - Washington 20

Shhhh. You're not supposed to let out of staters know about this. Oh wait. You're from Nebraska.....never mind.
The North Cascades are one of America's best scenic drives. Glad you enjoyed it.

RE: Best Route Port Angeles to Yuma, AZ

I-5 is your route, but be prepared for rain/snow/ice. You may need to build time in your schedule to wait out storms, especially from Ashland, OR to Dunsmuir, CA.
I've heard of several casino's along I-5 that have good RV facilities. As for Walmart's, only if my engine is blown and I have 5 flat tires.

RE: Campground between Crater Lake and Mt Rainer's Cougar rock

Here's an alternative route that would be fun. Hwy 97 north to Yakima. Then west on SR-12 to Morton. North on SR-7 to Elbe. Turn right and drive into the park. White pass on SR-12 is two lane, but a very doable road. Look for camping after crossing the border, otherwise day 2 is a long drive.

RE: Port Angeles to I-84

I agree with catching I-5 at Olympia. There's always traffic on I-5 but 16 to I-5 at Tacoma is worse than most.
X-2. I-5 traffic in Tacoma south from SR-16 can get pretty bad in the early afternoon, especially around the JBLM (Old Fort Lewis/McChord AFB) area. Stay on 101. It's an easy drive, and speed limits in the really curvy areas are reduced so you do not need to worry about keeping up or delaying traffic too much. I've pulled through there several times. No problem.

RE: Best way to travel from Wisconsin to Seattle Washington

You don't mention when you plan to make this trip, but I will assume decent weather. If you're looking for the direct route, make your way to I-90 and then head west. Yes you will have some mountain passes to negotiate, but nothing earth shattering. Plenty of fuel, and decent side trips along the way, with some very nice RV parks to find also. Where in Washington will you be going? That does offer some choices for your route. Enjoy your trip.

RE: Can anybody see a problem with this?

I used to drive those things for a living. If it is an old police vehicle, it probably has been driven pretty hard and will have high milage. Might be okay on the flats, but I think that the gear ratio in the rear end will really lug you down on any sort of a hill.

RE: Awning Damage

Those arms are replaceable. I'm waiting for parts to come in right now to repair my damaged awning. Make sure that you get the exact model number off of the sticker on the awning. It makes things a lot easier.

I purchased a 290EFS in March of 2006. We really like the trailer and have no regrets over the purchase. Still looks brand new and we can't see a reason to buy another.

RE: Manchester State Park Washington

Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone about this gem of a park. If others hear about it they may come and fill the place up, then we can't get in.
Seriously, this a really nice park, with lots to do and see in the area. For out of staters, you can also catch the ferry in Bremerton and go to downtown Seattle for a visit.
Be careful of the poison oak that can be found next to several of the trails in the park.

RE: Oregon Trip......route help

I would avoid 97 as it is 55mph from the Kalifornia to Washington border.
ALL of Oregon is a 55 zone unless you are on of I-5, I-82, or I-84 which is then 65 MPH. Hwy 97 is as good as it gets east of the Cascade summit. Plenty of multi-lane and truck passing lane areas.
Taking Hwy 395 north thru Lakeview is a good route. Then take Ore. 31 through the "Oregon Outback". That is a good route to the La Pine, Bend, and Redmond area. Going to K-Falls just adds miles.
