RE: 06 GMC 3500 vin "D"

An awful lot depends upon which Gov`t agency it comes from. Around here if it came from a handful of municipalities where I live, the vehicles are maintained extensively and driven/treated with the highest care. These municipalites always have "waiting lists" of people who want to bid on their used vehicles.

RE: Most reliable connector. semi 7 pin or RV blade ?

There are different companies selling the RV 7 blade couplers. I have always had excellent service out of Pollock couplers. You do have to watch and be careful to find the ones using brass for the prongs and recepticals. My gooseneck has never been stored inside, the chord and connector hang out in the weather, and it is 8 years old now. Still makes perfect contact every time.

RE: 2005 GMC 2500HD Input please

An 05 with 144K should be perfectly fine IF it was well maintained and the proof is there to support it. My family has had 3 of the 2500`s with the 6.0 and 4.10 gears. Great trucks. Yes I`m into a diesel now, but towing 20K at times I needed the extra.

RE: 2005 GMC HD2500 tire choice

On my GM trucks I`ve been running the OEM Bridgestone V-Rib 265`s. LT 245/75/R16. I`ve used nothing but these since 2003 on 3 different trucks and getting from 62-65K out of them. At least 50% of the miles have been loaded or towing.

RE: Length, length, maybe not.

Less is more for my wife and I too. It is just the two of us travelling. Yes, our 5er is just short of 32 ft. But with the Kitchen slide out and the super slide, we have ample room. Perhaps those who use the heck out of theirs or full time truly need the extra space a longer unit gives you, but for now, we`re happy with a little ole 32 footer.

RE: Best Oil Filter

To each their own, but for me, Fram is the last filter I would buy. Too many documented cases of poor materials and assembly workmanship issues. Either get one from the manufacturer or AC Delco for me.

RE: Do I have enough truck?

I did not see which gear set as being identified...3.73 or 4.10. Most (not all) of the 1500 HD`s came with the 3.73 gears. That will affect the towing capabilities. I had a 99 2500 (non HD), the same truck as the 1500 HD (8600 GVW), and towing my last 5th wheel that weighed under 8700 lb loaded was not fun. And I had the 4.10 gears. In short, the truck will haul it, but you may not like the way it handles it very well.

RE: Do you get it fixed?

Another alternative worth consideration is a replacement box. There are companies that pull the boxes all the time to install flatbeds and job site boxes. They sell the new or very slightly used boxes at very reasonable prices. Just a thought!!

RE: 2012 F150 Brake Noise

My 2013 F-150 has squeeked from the RF wheel while in reverse each and every morning upon backing out of garage only, since about 2500 miles. I now have nearly 8000 miles and the condition is unchanged.

RE: Engine Sizes

The 4.8 with 5000 lbs would be a marginal setup with 3.73 gears, especially if the RV has much frontal area. I`ve used 3 trucks with the 4.8 & 3.73 configuration towing a flatbed loaded to as much as 7k, and she was begging for mercy.

RE: Generator to power house

I`ve been using generators and backfeeding for years and years. On the farm it was simply cost prohibitive to have a transfer panel at every livestock facility or house. I have often pulled the meter to prevent any chance of backfeeding to the pole.

My 08 DMax is the same way. It is annoying, but I just set the DIC to gal used and run it down from there.

RE: 08 Duramax

I love my 08. It is bone stock and now has just shy of 92K and it has been excellent. The oil level drops just 1 notch on the stick between oil changes (annualy or 7500 mi for me). The only issues I`ve had were a leaking tranny cooler line and the engine fan clutch was replaced. I get around 18 mpg highway running empty, and 10-12 mpg at 62-64 mph pulling my 10k+ fiver or the same pulling my 18K gooseneck.

RE: 2008 Duramax

A client of mine just got a 2008 CC D/A DRW pick up truck Its a certified vehicle with 16000 miles. This truck has NO regen tank on it How can this be? I thought all new body style Chevy and GMC(2007.5and up) Had the new emissions on them Can anyone explain this? Thanks
If you are referring to a Deisel Exhaust Fluid tank, then no, there would not be one on an 08. They do however have the DPF (diesel particulate filter) which is an integral part of the exhaust system that goes through periodic regenerations.

Don`t mean to hijack this thread, but I never even knew that Lincoln made a pickup until a month ago....and then last week I saw one up close. Looked like a real nice ride!

RE: It's Battery Day!

I get to replace both batteries (originals) in my truck this spring...both went at the same time here at the end of October. But the trucks nestled away in the shop for the winter, so I`ll worry about it in a couple of months. And...the battery is going south on my John Deere loader tractor. Maybe I`ll qualify for a volume discount:B
Doesn't matter if only one is bad, never mix a new battery with an old battery in a dual battery system, the old one will kill the new one in short order. Just one of the major extra maintenance cost of owing a diesel! :B
I did get two MOPAR OEM 72 month batteries for my Cummins for $180 from a local dealer.
I had planned on replacing both batteries in the truck even before performing a load test to the better battery which confirmed it needed replacing too. I`ve got time to research which batteries I buy for the truck, but I do know that I`ll check NAPA. My local NAPA gives me a pretty good discount, and if there is ever a problem, there are NAPA stores most everywhere.

By September in the UP, about the only thing I`ve ever had to watch for was bees in open beverage containers. Keep them closed so you don`t swallow one.

RE: Oil bath bearings?

Aside from the potential bearing rust issue, I had the problem with my gooseneck of the seals leaking constantly when not in use. I replaced several seals before I said the heck with it and packed the bearings with grease. End of problem.

RE: Reservations or no for Sept Outside of Yellowstone

Thank you to all. It sounds like our plan of no reservations may be ok. I certainly do agree with the thought of calling ahead by a day or 2 when we have a better clue of where we want to be & when.
