RE: Must See Suggestions: St. Louis, MO to Sioux Falls, SD

X2 We just stayed at Main Amana last weekend during Mai Fest. It's only about 25 miles from our home so it was an easy getaway. The campgrounds in Main Amana is a big open grassy area but does have FHU in several spots and gravel pads. Depending on the week there is usually always something going on in the village and or a play near the campgrounds. Riverside isn't too much to see unless its Trek Fest. Then everyone with a Trek costume rolls out for a parade and community festivities. For racing fans, Knoxville Iowa is the home of the National Sprint Car museum and Knoxville Raceway. It's the only dirt track I've ever been to where the stands has an elevator. Yes, it's that big. Never been to Winterset but its on my list.

RE: WIND!!

We have had a weird week here in eastern Iowa too. Apr 30th it was 89 high and 65 low. May 2nd was 43 high and 33 low. West of us about 50 miles got almost one foot of snow. We still braved the weather and rain for a rally this weekend in the Amanas.

Finally!

Been waiting all winter to go out camping again. Finally got it do it this weekend. As I lay here in bed scrolling the web I just don't find the urge to even get out of bed yet. Way to comfortable in my mobile mansion. Lol. Seems like the winter was way too long.

RE: Sun is shining and camping is just around the corner!

I would if I could. We dug in a line with the excavator on Tuesday and about 18 inches down it was still dust and that was after 3.5 inches of rain. Unfortunately all the recent rain has been coming to fast to do vast amounts of good. Sure knocks the creeks out of their banks fast though.

RE: Sun is shining and camping is just around the corner!

Near 70 deg. today....the grass is getting greener (haven't had to mow yet but will soon) and the buds are starting to come out on the trees. Is it finally spring?? OMG it here...I've been sooo busy this week.(I do lawn care and landscaping)...Been doing spring cleanups all week and I'm hopeing I will be done with all of them before the mowing starts...I'll be towing the TT to our seasonal site on the 26th. Adult beverages and a campfire will be on oder for opening weekend on May 4th..:B All are welcome...burgers and hotdogs will be burning on the grill. If you must know...they will be venison burgers..:C Count yourself as lucky. I do outside work too, field tile and excavating and we have really gotten wet over the last two weeks. 10.5 inches of rain here at home so far in April. Dying to get out and camp but i think the fist time it dries up ill be in the field digging instead til the crops are in.

RE: 6 point leveling jacks

Well for what it's worth I never retract my front jacks completely. If something should catch the jack that's 6-8 inches off the ground it can only mean you already ran over it with the truck and probably did some damage driving over an object that tall. I guess if your offroading it may need to be raised a bit more but I won't see my rig doing something like that. Jmo.

RE: junky tires

I just threw away a set of Towmax tires last weekend. 2010, '11 and half of 2012 and they were done. Thought it was just one tire that was bad but three of the four had rolled chords. Bought some Yokohama 235/85/16 LT tires and we'll see haw they do. Basically I'm tired of replacing st tires. Last three campers have all gotten the tire treatment. That's a lot for four years. I've got five other trailers for the business to take care of and I don't need to worry about the 5ver.

RE: Your Rig

Don't get discouraged. I agree tho, it is a PITA. I think the system was put together back when the bandwidth was small so pics need to go on another site and this one views through the pic sharing site. I believe it could be changed now tho, and would certainly make it easier to share photos while loading them onto this site. Sure they take up some space but rv.net is owned by a company that can make the bigger network space happen without hardly a blink of an eye. So until that happens, keep trying.

load assist shocks

I have a 2012 Silverado 3500 srw and although it has some miles on it, it still rides rougher than my dodge drw. Do the shocks from gm come as load assist? If so maybe changing them out for ride rite type shocks would make improvements in riding. I don't really have to worry much about gcwr as I'm within specs so I could give up a little. I haven't seen any info on the factory shocks yet. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this.

RE: RV spots

There is or was a campground in northeastern Iowa that has rr tracks going thru the campground. They are sure to wake you early too.

I think they are 6000 lb axles

RE: Yokohama anyone?

Check the reputation of the Michelin XPS Rib in that size. They aren't cheap, but they are by far the best,IMHO. I would love to but as we have business expenses and startup costs for the season I can't shell out tons on the rv. Already have about 12k in purchases staring me in the face in the next month. Lol.

RE: Yokohama anyone?

Sorry. The Geolander H/T S. I don't really want to change out rims so ill stay with 16's. The 235 85 16 looks like the best fit for everything.

Yokohama anyone?

I was looking for a different tire for our 5ver and stumbled upon the Yokohama HT. the tire weight is almost 50 lbs per. The price isn't out of control either. I don't want want to pay a bunch for tires but still would like a reasonable amount of quality too. I know, I could spend big buck on different rims and bigger tires but I have alot of other irons in the fire at this time too. I guess the main choice is Maxxis but I wouldn't mind trying the LT tire on the unit either.

RE: Finaly

I wouldnt mind going this weekend but there's too much going on. And I can't go til I replace the junk cheap tires on the 5ver. Found a bad one this morning while airing them up.

RE: Iowa Bill Aimed at RV Registration Fee Evasion

Looks as if this senator is trying to make a name for himself perhaps. As chair of the transportation committee and on the transportation and infrastructure board. Probably out to find as much money in the nooks and crannies to help climb up the government ladder. All are competing for the pat on the back that gets a seat closer to the front of the bus. A funny twist, my parents live in his district and they haven't even heard of him. (It not that big of a district!)

RE: Iowa Bill Aimed at RV Registration Fee Evasion

"Iowa laws says that a person who purchases a vehicle pays a 5% fee for new registration. The fee on a $25,000 car, for example, would be $1,250." I'm confused by this part, are we talking Registration, or taxes, if this is just for the registration, I'd be be registering somewhere else too, this is obscene,my wifes car ($32,000.) is less than $80. for 2 years. 5% is a fee on the new vehicle. Ours is $1035 for the new Terrain. I believe the registration is 284.00 a year. (five passenger four cylinder two wheel drive auto) Like I said before, my 2012 silverado is $444.00 for a four ton license. Then 21 cents per gallon on fuels. (we have I80, I35, I29 going through the state so plenty drive thru traffic) then another 20 cents per gallon for local taxes. I think the state is getting a fair share already. They just don't collectively know where it goes. So now they want more. To the one who mentioned any money received will probably only pay for a few to go get a few more fines collected and so on and so on your probably about right. I pay the state mandated contractors fee every year and it does absolutely nothing but pay for the office and labor for a few someone's to send out reminders about paying more contractor fees. Absolutely worthless. It does nothing for the contractor. Just keeping the lights on and a few employed. I need to find a job like that... Edited for spelling.
