RE: Honda 2000 VS Champion in parallel (I've done my research)

I'm a little late to this ballgame, but here's my story. I've had one Champion 2000 generator for a little over a year. It will run my entire camper except the compressor on the 13.5 air conditioner. I never use the microwave so I never tried both blower and microwave. The one generator would run about 7 hours on 1 gallon of gas. I went an entire weekend running all day and almost all night on 7 gallons of gas. The noise of one generator is such that you have a normal conversation next to the generator and it's comfortable. Because of unexpected warm weather in November, I wasn't anticipating needing A/C for my doggies during the day. I made a decision to buy a 2nd Champion and the parallel kit. I hooked it up and there was no notable noise level increase. My neighbors and I agreed it wasn't much louder than with just one. However, I thought the two generators would have been enough to start my air conditioner. I had already installed the soft start capacitor months before. But even with two generators, I could not start the A/C. I spoke with Champion tech support. They told me to trip all the breakers but the A/C and pull the fuses for the DC side. It still couldn't start the compressor. I ended up taking the 2nd one back.

RE: Idiot In-laws

Why don't they do it up front by researching TV requirements? Because some people don't know that they don't know something. Case in point, me. I was one who thought you just hooked up a trailer and went. With the help of this forum and a lot of research, I've learned tons. If you don't know the question that needs to be asked, how do you know to go look for the answer? In the case of the OP, I don't have kids, but I still wouldn't do it either. Try to educate if the in-laws are interested. If not, can't fix stupid.

RE: 2nd blowout 30 miles from home

Easiest way to check your weight is a truck stop scale. CAT scales are dang near everywhere. Sorry to hear about your 2nd blowout so close to home. I knew that feeling coming back from when I had my first blowout. To me, an old spare is just that, it's still old.

RE: Noisy Hitch

I would DOUBT that the loosness of the stinger in the receiver is making your noise. The receiver and hitch on my wife's truck has some wiggle room even though they're brand new. When we tow our flat trailer, there is a lot of noise from the receiver and hitch. The trailer itself has it's own set of noise.

RE: Hate fighting the CATV connectors, will these work?

If you're looking for a quick hookup, that's the way to go. If you get a quality connector, you shouldn't have any problems.

RE: Tire advice, I just had a blow out

That link I sent you, the company had my TPMS to me within a week. The sensors are less than 8oz if I remember. It can be installed on a rubber valve stem. I just chose metal. Good luck getting home. :)

RE: What do YOU use?

I tried to use them one time under the jack. They bowed under the weight of a 500lb tongue. As for the stabilizers, (and I realize this is one of MY quirks as an RV owner) but I don't like my stabilizers being down that far. My back ones usually have to be nearly fully extended. Front, about 1/2. So I use blocks under them to keep them under halfway extended. Took a lot of blocks to do the fronts. I keep cement blocks for the back still.

RE: Tire advice, I just had a blow out

This just happened to us and I asked this forum last week if I should replace just one or all four tires. The overwhelming cosensus was to replace all four at least, and the spare if you could afford it. I have no idea what 4 will cost to replace but I would love to replace all 5 even thug the spare has never been used till yesterday I spent just under $500 for five tires. This included tires, mounting, metal valve stems, & balancing. Balancing not usually required, but it was a good thing in my case. One of my tires was really out of balance.

RE: Tire advice, I just had a blow out

I bought my 2006 Jayco last March as a used vehicle. I did not know you can buy and retro fit a TPMS, how much did it cost? It isn't so much of a retrofit. You can buy the internal sensors, but they are not cheap. The "normal" option that I have is this: Great RV Product TST When I had new tires installed, I had them install metal valve stems on every tire, including the spare. The sensor screws onto the valve stem and without the special tool, is difficult (not impossible) to get off. With the 507 kit, you can change the batteries in the sensors. In the 510, you can not. There is a wireless receiver that sits up front with you and reports tire pressure and temp for each tire that has a sensor. On my 200 mile trip to Mississippi, it helped set my mind at ease.

RE: Tire advice, I just had a blow out

I went through something very similar. I had a tire go out. I had no difference in handling and I didn't hear it. Only thing that attracted my attention was rubber flying away from passenger side. Since I just bought the trailer in April, I had no clue to the history of the rest of the tires, including spare. I replaced all five at the same time. In addition, I've since bought a TPMS. I love that. It's awesome.

RE: Blk Water Tank Reading Full and I Just Emptied It!!!

I used ice cubes to clean the black tank for my last trailer. Didn't do anything for the sensors, but I was surprised at how much extra gunk came out of that tank after 20 miles on some of these Louisiana roads. My sensor in this one is not working. I've put a bit of water softener and filled the tank about two weeks ago. FIgure I'll go dump it eventually and see if that works.

RE: What do YOU use?

Lynx Levelers. They are lightweight, compact and work great. I also carry a few pieces of square 3/4" ply to put on top or bottom according to conditions. The LLs are great, but are not real cheap. Huh, I bought some of those and was not impressed with them with them under the jack or stabilizers. I might have to try the plywood idea..

RE: What do YOU use?

I only use them under the stabilizers. Not much weight under there. Under the jack and wheels, I use wood.

RE: What do YOU use?

I use concrete blocks. There's a block that's six inches I use for the fronts, and full blocks for the back.

RE: Turn signals blowing fuse finally solved

I think that's the technical term for the device the turn signal lever on the steering column connects to.

RE: PEX & Sharkbite

I have extensive experience with Sharkbite with my renovations in my master bath and water heater closet. I didn't want to spend the money upfront on the crimpers and rings and fittings, but paid a whole lot more over the long haul. I'm going to replace all the sharkbites I can get to with crimps, and save a handful of the s.b. for camper repairs. They're definitely good for that quick fix, but expensive as all hell. :)

RE: New to tt, electrical question

Sounds like an easy fix then. Just run a new wire from the his shed panel to a post with a new outdoor rv 30 amp box? My father is a good electrician but knows nothing about tt's. Yup. Easy to do. Did mine in about two hours and that included hiding the cable.

I got my stickers about 2 1/2 years ago by PM'ing one of the moderators. I don't remember who it was though.

RE: Would I be out of line?

You know, I'm surprised with some of ya'll. All those that are saying this was trivial or minor stuff, and he should go back to the city, this one is for you. Are you saying you have NEVER had a neighbor, coworker, anyone, either at home, work, or in the campground, that did something to irritate you that you wanted to say something but didn't? Never ever ever? Not once? Any of you ever think that MAYBE, just MAYBE, HGB griped here to make himself feel better about the situation? Ease up people. Some people are too quick to judge and make broad statements.
