RE: Citronella anti Bark Collar- GPS tracking Collar

We occasionally use the citronella collars for our pups and they work great. We only use them when someone new is coming to visit or workmen are around the house. That sort of thing sets them barking and keeps them upset. The collars seem to tell them that we have approved the visitors and they don't need to alert us - haha. We have three small dogs but do not use the collar on one since she has some breathing problems anyway and we don't want to aggrevate those. They really do not like the smell of the citronella. RE: Sadly I don't have very good luck with dogs

Ah, but I agree that your dogs have had wonderful luck in finding you. I will keep you and Sassy in my prayers as you go through this process. Our daughter's beagle had a back leg amputated due to mast cell tumor and he lived happily and actively for another 3 years. May you and Sassy enjoy whatever time you have together. Eileen

Claire was a beautiful pup and I know your heart is heavy. I am sure she has already met our Cody and Taz and perhaps she will teach them some new games. Thank you for giving her love and joy. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Eileen

RE: From the Land of the Misfit Dogs...

congratulations on your beautiful new family member. I love boxers and there is something extra special about someone who wants to share their home with a senior. There are so many who have so much to give for their final years and so few who want to share with them. I know you will be a blessing to each other. Well done! Eileen

RE: Need moral support and help

I completely agree that this is a difficult decision and each situation must be weighed by the individual. I will share with you our experience with our beloved Cody. He first hurt his back when he was 8. We took him to Texas A&M where they recommended complete crate rest for 6 weeks with pain meds. We did this and he recovered complete use of his back legs without pain. Two years later he became paralyzed in his back legs quite suddenly. We were sent to an Orthopedic surgeon who said that because of his level of injury, he would need surgery but with that he would have about 80% chance of recovery. We did the surgery, physical therapy, hydro therapy, acupuncture - the whole works and he, fortunately recovered almost completely. He lived another 4 years of happy, healthy life. This process was VERY expensive - but fortunately we were able to do it. There are no easy answers for every case. Cody's doctors were able to give us good advice in both episodes, but we had to make the final decision based on our ability to care for him. When he was recovering from surgery, my husband was able to make some simple devices that the therapist recommended and with very little expense we were able to supplement the therapy at home. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you as you as you make decisions for what is best for your family. I know you will be sure that he knows he is loved no matter what the future holds. Eileen
