RE: washing dishes-is grease and food safe down sink drain?

I agree with the suggestions above: wipe off plates with paper towels; use paper/plastic for messy foods; a screen in the sink; flush soapy water down toilet. This avoids a smelly grey tank. Good posts for this topic from the forum members.

RE: Who here cooks inside camper or Outside camper?

They make a round screen to place over a skillet. This keeps the grease from splattering onto the kitchen surfaces. We haven't had a problem with food odors; just air out the trailer, just as you would air out your kitchen at home.

RE: Best way through San Francisco South to North.....

I agree with Pnichols that it's best to avoid SF entirely. At San Jose, take 880 north, past Berkeley to the San Rafael Bridge. In San Rafael, head north on 101. This route may still be slow, but it's far less crowded. Stay as far as you can from SF. It is a great place to visit (and live!), but not in a motorhome.

RE: What's your " OH man did I mess up"

1. 7-pin plug came loose on a trip, and ground itself down on the concrete road. 2. Left the steps down and bent them on a fencepost. 3. GF didn't secure the door. 1 mile down the road, it opened up and ruined the hinge. 4. Hit a bump too fast and bent the frame. Expensive lessons; $1400 worth.........Dan

RE: tow mirrors

I second the McKesh idea. They work great for me and my 2500HD. Easy on and off, no vibration, much safer with them on.......Dan

RE: Weight Distribution Hitch???

I second the Blue Ox Sway Pro recommendation. Very easy to use, and no clips or tools to use. And no, I'm not a shill.

RE: Hwy 101 in northern CA and OR

Highway 101 North of San Francisco is truly a beautiful trip. One thing I would warn you about, though, is driving through the small towns in Oregon. Entering these towns, there are speed limit signs, usually 30 mph or so. They really mean that, and frequently there's a cop with radar checking your speed. Lots of profit for the local towns. In fact, Oregon in general is very strict on speeding. Their state campgrounds are terrific, and take your time and have a wonderful trip! .......Dan

RE: We need an "RV solar for dummies" thread or app

Hi, Dan, I rigged up a 135 watt portable solar panel, with a Morningstar controller, fuses, and alligator clips to clamp onto the batteries. It gives us about 35 amps. on a clear day. I can also move them to follow the sun's track. We use around 35 amps per day. It works great! One thing to watch out for, however, is the weight of the panel----40 #, plus it is very unwieldy. So, I would suggest that two 80 watt panels, especially if you can buy them for around $100 each, would be a better way to go. Please don't overthink this process. For what you would use it for, a permanent installation is, I believe, not necessary. Handy Bob Solar is a great site to learn from. By the way, your blog is outstanding...............Dan from Napa

RE: Which WDH and anti sway to choose?

My Blue Ox Sway Pro works very well on my small trailer. It is much easier to hitch than my old Equalizer, and it eliminates the freeway hop and porpoising if used properly.....Dan

RE: New TT owner ready to equip for dry camping

My recommendation would be for : 2 batteries (200+ amps) 200+ watts solar panels LED lighting 2400i Yamaha generator Decent charger/converter Additional tanks/totes as needed Down blankets instead of using heater Conservation of electric, propane, and water/waste

RE: What do you do all day?

I am contemplating full-timing, and I wondered about that, too. I have decided to start a blog to document my travels and interests. That includes wildlife photography, barbecue joints, and Australian Shepherd dogs. Writing about our trips has been really fun and rewarding, especially our trip to Greece last year, published in our local newspaper........Dan

RE: Towing Mirrors for toyota tacoma

I really recommend the Mc Kesh mirrors. Once you set them up, they only take a minute to install each time you tow. No vibration, and they won't fall off.........Dan

RE: Can't find an eletric bed warmer that actually gets warm!

I second the suggestion of down comforter, and throw in a couple of "hand warmers", disposable warming pads. They are cheap, and they'll preheat your bed in a few minutes............Dan

RE: 12 v Vs. dual 6v batteries

I like the fact that I can buy 6 volt batteries at the golf cart shop. Price isn't too bad, and they will install them for a small fee. But, it's true, you need to have 2 or 4 or 6 to make 12 volts! I use Interstate batteries; they work fine..........Dan

RE: which chairs for our new TT? and why?

I have to agree with Webslave about the Strongback chairs. I bought a Zen, and it is light, strong, and very comfortable. I would also use it inside.

RE: Teach old cats to love the RV?

I give my Australian Shepherd Benadril to calm her down. It really works; but check with the Vet for dosage and if it's safe for cats. (Aspirin is fatal for cats!) So, make sure you have the Vet's OK.

RE: Where to Boondock on I-5 south of the 580 to Oakland?

Harris Ranch gets my vote. We have stayed there several times on our way to Death Valley or Southern CA. You just park out back behind the truck pumps. Restrooms open at 8:00 AM. I asked permission at the convenience store, and they looked at me like I was crazy. "Of course you can park for the night!" they said.
