RE: Minimalistic or Grandma's Cupboard?

We put up the face of Jesus with a light that helps folks see the eyes follow you as you walk by. Nice conversation piece sometimes. Even gotten knocks on the door from parents whose kids got freaked out. All friendly.

RE: Trailer Saver Hitch

I just bought one last month for $2851.00. It included buying two wheel chocks, one brake controller, and a hitch cover. I have my own compressor but you can buy one installed on hitch for more money. I just towed with it from Florida to Louisiana and felt it was worth the money. Of course the Louisiana roads on I10 Westbound really gave me a ride and the coach more so.
They had special prices if you buy more accessories. The only way I could get a price was to call them.

RE: Where in the States to go to buy a Class A

I just traded my MH in for a Carriage 5th wheel at Lazy Days in Florida and am still here going thru the check it out stage where they fix any gigs I find.
No place is perfect but I have had no problems here as of yet, except maybe they try too hard to help you out all the time which is not really a problem at all.
Once they see my final list it may be a different story, but I doubt it.
For sure no one seems worried about losing their jobs.

RE: Replacing plastic water heater drain plug with anode

FYI on my Atwood the safety valve is brass. If brass is bad, why did Atwood use it?
Interesting question. However, I did have my plastic thingy break at an impromtu time but the tiffin store at Red Bay, Alabama fixed me up with a brass one with the anode rod for a temporary fix. I swapped out with the plastic as soon as I found one, and bought a spare to boot. No damage noted.

RE: 5th wheel towing estimate

My front axle wt rating is 5200 and the rear axle wt rating is 9350. I have five springs on the rear axle and this thing is supposed to be for heavy hauling, but its the salesman talking. Its Hensleys 4500 pin weight limit that might hurt if I understand you right. Power wise, the Cummins 6.7 doesn't seem to hurt for power.
The Champagne's hitch weight, according to the Sales folks, falls within limits so I have to check the reality of what I am told. Time to check the owners forum I believe. Thanks.

5th wheel towing estimate

I just bought a 2009 Dodge 3500 Laramie 4X4 diesel,3.73 rearend in anticipation of buying a 5th wheel to replace my Class A. The GVWR is 12200 according to the sticker. I had a Hensley TS3 trailersaver hitch installed limited to 20000lbs, hitch weight 4500. I now assume that I can buy a 5th wheel with a weight under 20000 and be ok. I really want a Hitchhiker Champagne that list at 19000 lbs GVWR.

I play it by ear. I have even made my version(copied) of brussel sprouts that stunk to high heaven, but tasted great.

RE: Black Bears and Hybrids

I slowly passed a little black bear in Shenandoah NP this summer, and if eyes could talk, I'd swear he said "Don't bother me boy" as he kept on walking down the road. Kinda like the buffalo at Yellowstone. Gotta love them.

RE: No elecric to refrigerator or microwave

The inverter on my MH has two breakers, and when the DW uses the toaster and another 1500W appliance on one circut, it will trip that breaker or another breaker inside the MH.

RE: What's up with Pilot?

I do know I will always pass up Pilot and Love stations, and I will go out of my way to find a Flying J. Last summer, I left I10 and headed North to Pecos, Tx to a flying J. I then took I20 back to I10 the next day. Nice supper, nice breakfast, and bought the wife a T-shirt. I just hope they survive all their problems and stick around.

First attempt at posting pics and just downloaded the program ICE to see what happens. Took under 10 minutes to download program and make a panoramic view. If it doesn't work, I'll go into hiding for a day or two from embarrassment.

RE: electric heaters

I use one and IMHO its ok for the southern climates in the winter, but not the northern climates. I'm still debating as to whether or not my windshield has less moisture on it in the morning. Checking that this winter. At least I haven't had to replace it yet as I seem to do with the cheap ones. Its still a Chinese product.
My BIL is Georgia swears by his and he uses it for his house.

RE: GMAC Insurance Renewal WOW

I had an incident towing the car and damaging it to the the tune of 2800 or so with one insurance company. Switched to GMAC that year and they hit me up for over 1700 a year because of the incident. Went up for three years, but the fourth year it dropped down to 1000 plus a few dollars. Thought it was normal. I switched because of the MH coverage.

RE: Diesel Engine size & MPG

Just finished up a 7300 plus mile trip with an 03 Bounder 38N,300HP Cummins, towing an 06 Honda Odessey. Averaged 8.9527 MPG with slight generator usage. This was from the south to the west,Texas, Arizona, Colorado, to the midwest, Illinois and upper Michigan, and to the East to New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and back south to Georgia,Florida, and Louisiana. Covered lots of different terrain and tried to keep it around 60Mph. I was happy.

RE: "Clunk" Sound in our Slide Out

I had a clunk come from my slide when it went out. I just let it go. Eventually I had problems with lighting on that side. I opened up all the panels I could(one) and I discovered the dealer had moved my wiring while troubleshooting something else and when the slide went out it caught the wires and then they would let go and go boom. The trouble came when the wires started coming apart at the connector. Easy fix and no more noise.

RE: favorite Gettysburg PA campground?

I stayed at the Gettysburg battlefield resort and was very happy for $9.00 a night(AOR). I would have liked full hookups and 50 amp service, but in some places you get what you pay for. The people there still treated me like a full fare customer.

RE: New US State laws for braking while towing

Having used the Brake Buddy to help in avoiding kissing an 18 wheeler that used my lane to complete his turn, I see the need for assistance. My BB also decided to become inoperative on this last trip, and when I needed to stop in a hurry, it was obvious it didn't work. It is now my personal law to keep using one.
