RE: My Tahoe and a Passport 290bh

I think that's too much trailer for a 5.3 with any gear.

RE: Would you add a tranny cooler?

Do you have a hand held laser thermometer to monitor hub/bearing temps? If so next time you stop after a grueling tow use it to check your transmission pan temp.Over 210 degrees? Yep,you need a cooler.

RE: Direct Tv

I had 4 or 5 stupid calls from dish after I switched to Direct.
One of the reasons I switched was because it was all but impossible to lock on to the correct dish satellite when camping. With Direct I set up and orient the dish and 75% of the time I turn on the TV/receiver and have a good signal without further adjustments.
It seems I have a lot less pixilization on fast action scenes with Direct also.

It's the pedal on the RIGHT!

The "Pull Over" thread got me thinking of another very common driving issue.Merging onto the Interstate.
Invariably when we are cruising along towing in the slow lane(60MPH)on the Interstate. We have to get over in the fast lane to allow some "Blue Hair"(Mines completely white) that doesn't know how to merge get in.Usually they are going 20-30MPH slower than the flow of traffic.
The stupid part is within a minute they finally figure out where they are and they go flying past. Finally figuring out what the pedal on the right is for.
Please accelerate up to the same speed as the traffic you wish to merge into on the on ramp. That's what its there for.
Plus it's good for your engine to stomp on it now and then to clean the cobwebs out.

RE: how to grt rid of mosquitos

I bought one of these at Sam's Club http://flowtron.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=F&Product_Code=BK-40D&Category_Code=FTPR.It was $43 and came with 6 attractor pads ($35 value).
I put mine on a timer to run from 5 AM to 11 PM.After running for a week or so I think it killed so many it messed up their gestation cycle.I have about a 90% reduction of those little suckers now.
Money well spent.

RE: Propane rip off

The bait shop I have used for years fills my 20lb tanks until the gas comes out of the opened screw(spitter)on the side of the valve.I have 5 tanks and usually fill 2 or 3 at a time. The price is up to a flat rate $18 per tank.
OUCH! No wonder the owner is always smiling.
I need to fill 3 tanks now.I think I'll get on the phone and shop around.

RE: grey water into black tank ?

"Does putting grey water with it's detergents from soaps etc. mess with chemicals you put in your black tank to break down the solids".
Soaps are dispersants. They are good at breaking up particles and putting them in suspension.
A lot of people swear by the Geo method and use only soap or liquid fabric softener in the black and gray tanks.

RE: grey water into black tank ?

When your ready to "Equalize" your tanks take off the drain cap and put this on http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/twist-on-valve/27868.
When you get to the dump station open this valve first then black and lastly gray.
Check this recent link http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/22949567.cfm
Simple.

Lubricant for leveling(scissor) jacks

Any lubricant I can think of would attract dirt and just turn into a abrasive mess in a short period.
Paraffin wax?
Any Ideas?

RE: Plugging trailer into generator for A/C

If your A/C is an older 15K BTU unit the Yami might have it's hands full running it.Buy a Kill-o-watt meterhttp://www.supermediastore.com/kilwateldet1.html?utm_source=googleBase&utm_medium=pcsite&utm_term=EL-006-0293-datafeed01&utm_content=datafeed01&utm_campaign=googleBase%20-%20EL and see what amperage it's pulling.

"Luck" wrote....."Nice concept. It's a glorified tent on a utility trailer".
I agree.
No A/C???You wouldn't be very comfy camping down here in the summer in that rig.
I know,I know, we camped down here year round for 35 years in tents without A/C.I must be getting smarter in my old age.

RE: Towing Speed

We camp to relax. And that relaxation starts when we slam the doors to head wherever we're camping.
I keep an eye on the DIC(Driver information center) to try and milk the most out of a gallon of fuel.We cruise between 55-65 MPH.Depending on a head or tail wind. That usually affords us between 10-13 MPG.
Whats the hurry?

RE: Do you guys like to camp in Georgia?

Fort Mtn. SP near Chatsworth(Dalton)Is a must see http://www.gastateparks.org/FortMountain/.The last time we visited was in July.We never turned on the AC!Low 60's at night.
But not for those with marginal power. It is a pretty steep haul up the mountain.
Beautiful,

RE: Why not wave??????

Afraid,
I said most responsible drivers not all......
Observation,
Atlanta by far has the friendliest drivers.Every time we pull through Atlanta on I-75 we use the HOV lane.Everyone that passes us waves.Funny though they don't use all their fingers when they do.:B:B:B

RE: Why not wave??????

When we're in the boat or canoe EVERYBODY on the water seems to wave!.When were out riding the Moto Guzzi we get a lot of waves except for the Poseurs on their cruisers trying to match their "Bad Boy" dress up like a 1%'er image(big joke to everyone else). In the Miata it seems only the guys with performance upgrades(lowered, aftermarket wheels, tires, exhaust and a roll bar will flash high beams, honk or wave.Women in a Miata wave?NEVER!Pulling the little ultralight TT we get a lot of waves from the people in the campgrounds. But on the road I think most responsible RV's are too busy keeping their rig between the lines to wave.

RE: Equalizing waste tanks

Thanks for the great idea "Beemer".We're headed for CW to get that valve today.
Funny,In all the years I have been studying the RV forums I have never seen this little trick discussed.
The first time I tried it was in desperation. The gray tank was reading full and my wife told me she was going to wash her hair and was NOT going to fight the heat and mosquitoes down at the bath house.
And we all know the saying. If Momma aint happy..............
