RE: Young full timer?

There is a great shortage of good RV mechanics so it would be a great field to get into. Pays great too.
Think about finding a good rv mechanic school and getting your certification.
Another plus is if you want to live in an rv with little money, you will have to know how to do the repairs (and believe me there will be repairs) yourself.
When I was 17 I graduated highschool and left home. I got a job, found a cheap apartment with a roommate, and went to college. I paid for college myself, going at night and working days and weekends. It was tough, but I did it. BTW, I am a woman.
You can too. Look at an area with a good school, look at the costs of living in an rv versus a roommate situation, and go from there.
If school is totally out of the question, think about talking to all the RV mechanic shops and offer to work for minimum wage for on-the-job training. Can't hurt to ask, the worst they can do is say no.
Good luck!

RE: Should I pay off mh

Buy low Sell high.
This is not the time to empty your savings. If you do you will never have the opportunity to recover from the hit we've all taken.
Consider making extra principle payments against the RV instead.

RE: pots and pans

I have my old set of stainless steel Farberware in the motorhome. However, I have yet to use it. I mainly use the electric skillet, the electric kettle (love this appliance), crockpot, microwave/convection and the grill.

RE: I dodged a Chinese bullet

How to know if you are killing your tires by over loading.
???
The gentleman had already stated they did not overload their trailer. "The trailer had never been towed with much of a load as there are only two old fogies that use it and we don't stock up much for the short trips we normally take."

RE: Campground Cooking - Quick question!

We love our charcoal grill. We have a cheap walmart grill that is absolutely great for the price. I just ordered a Grip campfire grill that I am anxious to try out. We plan to throw some coals in a small fire, and when they are ready set this baby on top and grill away. I tried to copy a pic to post but its protected. Its basically a heavy duty grate with legs. The legs on the grill fold up for easy storage. Less clean up than the traditional charcoal grill.

RE: Hello I am scared and looking for some friendly support

You said you like the 5th wheel with the kitchen in the rear. Be advised that the rear of the camper bounces the most when you are on the road, therefore taking much more wear and tear on the appliances and the dishes! You might want to reconsider that choice.

RE: Hello I am scared and looking for some friendly support

Can you "ease into this"? Go buy the fifth wheel and park it local. Live in it for 3 or so months until you are comfortable. Continue working your job while you adjust - go different places on weekends and vacations during this time period. After that you should be acclimated, know the ins and outs of your new home, and be more comfortable with living in it and traveling.
Just because you are on the road doesn't mean you can't see your grandchildren. You can take them on fabulous vacations during the summer and holidays, or travel back to see them. Get your computer and your son/daughters computers set up with video cam so you can "see" each other and talk.

RE: To Go or Not To Go?

Go while you can. And keep going when the opportunity arises. You should not give up your life for your parents. In the priorities of life, you and your husband and your children come before your parents. (Explained to me by a therapist). You have made sure your parent is taken care of and you are not required to take care of them personally.
Give the rest of the family the opportunity to care for your mom while you have some quality time with your husband. If you need to, arrange some respite care with a local AL or NH. Enjoy the road!

RE: What type of RV for Dogs

We have two dogs in that weight range (50-75 lbs). We had a class C and it was extremely tight. There is only the Aisle for walking space and two people and two dogs just didn't cut it. We now have a class A and are much more comfortable and the dogs are more comfortable - they can move around better plus they can both be in the living area with us. So I would recommend the 5th wheel over the C.

RE: Newbie Still Shopping; More Questions!

If traveling is not what you are going to be doing, then paying for and maintaining an engine is not what you want to do. A TT would be ideal. Also, have you looked at older mobile homes?

RE: Looking for Oatmeal Breakfast type bars

DH doesn't like oatmeal either. So I serve it to him in other meals. I buy the oat bread and also substitute oatmeal to recipes calling for bread crumbs (like my meatloaf).

TIRE-D

Another dumb tire question....be gentle please.
We bought a new-to-us Safari Ivory (love it!). We examined the tires and they are all dated 2001. The tires all looked brand new with no cracks. The RV had been garage kept all of its life. We had the tires inspected, and were told they were all good, no signs of rot or deterioration.
We had the front two tires replaced anyway.
Would you go ahead and replace the back two tires or use the existing ones for a year or two?
