RE: Rockwood Roo 233 towing

I tow our 23SS with our 2500HD 4x4 and "DO NOT" use a WDH or sway control. I would not even dream of doing this with a half ton truck. With a half ton truck a WDH is needed. I have the Titan class V hitch on the back of the pickup.

RE: Rockwood Roo 21SS - Tow Vehicle

You absolutely need a WDH with any trailer of this size even when towing with a truck. -- Chuck Chuck, sorry but I have to disagree with you on this statement. I pull the same trailer as you except with mine is an '09. I pull with a 2500HD most of the time and I just use the 2 and 5/16 ball no sway either. When I pull with our '09 Grand Cherokee I used the reese dual cam sway control.

RE: Booked Fort Wilderness Campground at Disney.....

We stayed there when we had our class A in September 2010. In my opinion, and I have stayed that the resort/hotels, on property 3 times since. The hotel/resorts are the better deal, especially if Disney is throwing in a free dining plan.

RE: The 6.0 GM gas engine for towing...searched with no results

Thanks for all the replies...I am considering an interim move and am exploring the options. A few certainties: The key word here was interim No Ford...ever again...too bad as Deb has never owned a different brand I know the gas engine trucks will not perform like a diesel I have owned both and am aware the gas truck will not provide scintillating performance but you can buy a lot of fuel with the huge difference in purchase price. Thanks again Regards Stepping from a grease burner to a gas burner, you will notice. Now that said. I have a '02 Silverado HD 4x4 Extended cab short bed with the 6.0L I have pulled up to 13K bumper pull boat with it and have been relatively happy. I also used to pull our '02 29EX Terry with it. I have been happy with it, yes I slowed down on the hills. Yes at 65mph I would run in 3rd gear (I have the 4 speed) at 3,000 RPM. But I would get between 9~11 mpg. I would run premium fuel (watched on a DashDaq and spark was more advanced on 93 octane). My truck is now 11 year old (enter service date of 11/2001) it has 81K miles on it and almost all that has been pulling, this is a dedicated tow vehicle. It would do fine as a daily driver, my brother had a similiar truck that he used to plow snow, tow his boat and drive to work and back, his was an '01. He just sold that truck with 350K miles on it original, engine, trans and t-case. He was very hard on his truck too. He used to average 14~15 mpg driving to work and back. That said the new trucks with 4.10 and 6L90E are a really nice piece and I think you would be more than happy with one. RE: How often (and how far) to drive a dormant TV?

I have been parking my '02 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 every winter from December 1 or first snowfall, till mid April every year since new. I just back it in the barn and throw a tender on it. Sometimes I do have to move it out to work on one of the two jeeps as the truck is parked on my vehicle lift. Other than that that I never start it never worry about it. It has been parked for over 30 days now with just a battery tender on it. I have never had a problem in the 10 years I have had it.

RE: Using WDH with jayco 17c

Thanks to everyone for there comments. I will be playing it safe and getting a WDH and sway control bar to make the trips a lot more enjoyable. Again thanks for the comments,. Why the WDH sounds like you don't need it. The sway bar maybe. I am sorta at a cross roads as well with the similar decision. I have pulled our '09 23SS Roo with my '02 2500HD 4x4 Silvrado about 150 miles now with just a ball (I have a Titan V hitch on the truck before anybody gets wadded up about that) The day I took it to winter storage I was pulling in Strong cross winds with semi's on the road at 70 mph with just the ball and it pulled fine. No that said the truck goes down about 1 inch in the rear and up about 1/4 - 1/2 inch in the front. Same as my boat. The truck and trailer are both level. So far I have towed in what I would consider bad conditions on the highway I have towed it town some winding uneven 2 laners. I don't think I really need that stuff. I am going to put my dual cam on it and set it up for our Grand Cherokee we may occasionally pull with that. I have pulled allot of stuff with this pickup, 31' foot offshore that was 38' with the trailer under it weighing 13K used WHD but the bars were loose and there for shock loads, 29 Terry travel trailer, 24 foot enclosed V-nose snowmobile trailer and our current boat 23 foot searay 6500~7000 lbs. So I am really at a loss here on what I should do. My advise to you is do what you feel makes you comfortable, I would probably forgo the WDH for sure in your case, sway control maybe being it is a single axle.

RE: Just picked up an '09 Rockwood ROO 23SS

bikendan, Thanks for the info, I will make sure I look into that and if that is the case run with the tank empty. I have 3 friction sway bars on a shelve in the barn. I have done a little running on the freeway to see how this trailer would handle with just a standard ball, it seems very stable even when passing semi's and the odd shaped load on some semis. It seems just fine I have the trailer level when loaded and the truck only drops about 075 inches in the rear and the movement up in the front is not measurable. So she's takin' the load fine. Also for a trailer this size on a 9,200 GVW (16,000 GCVW) truck a friction sway bar would be a bandaid to un pretty bed underlying issue.

RE: Just picked up an '09 Rockwood ROO 23SS

Boat and trailer weighs 5,700 lbs and 341 lbs of tonque weight (both measured). This is set per Majic Tilt Boat Trailer, Trailer manufacturer. I have pulled the boat with the GC and it does very well, it is just a bit much rise on the front axle of the GC for my taste. I can't use weight distributing with the surge actuator per manufacturer. I can with the HTT though.

RE: Just picked up an '09 Rockwood ROO 23SS

^^Not sure where you are getting your specs from. Owners manual says tow rating of Limited 5.7L HEMI is 7,200 lbs. for 4x4 and 750 lbs of tongue weight. I think it will be more than sufficent. There are several people on the WK forum pulling bigger TT with the same truck.

Just picked up an '09 Rockwood ROO 23SS

Well I got tired of towing our convential 29 foot TT. So we figured we would give a HTT a try. This thing actually seems bigger inside then the other trailer which had a super slide. The thing I like the best, having a Silverado 2500 HD (Titan class five hitch) is the fact I can pull this thing on just a ball without any of the sway control or weight bars. This makes set up and tear down road ready a little easier, well, less oppurtunity for getting grease on me. We usually camp for 3 day weekends so this thing should work out just perfect. We will occasionally pull it with our HEMI Grand Cherokee, I did save my Dual Cam from the TT and will set it up on the trailer for when we use the Grand Cherokee. Wife would pull the HTT with the Jeep and I would be pulling our boat with the Truck. So back to the HTT we have had popup's in the past, motorhomes and a TT, what can I expect, this seems to be half popup half TT? Any tips tricks I need to know about.

RE: Trans temp

My '02 2500HD ran 200 according to the dash gage memorial day weekend. I was in 3rd gear doing 68~70 MPH, ambient was 95 degrees F. Trans was in tow haul so TCC was locked up, I was pulling our brick of a travel trailer. This was over the course of a 90 mile drive.

RE: bought an "as Is no warranty" camper with water damage

In michigan AS IS even if signed an AS IS agreement doesn't totally mean that. If it can be proven they hit a problem the dealer can be made accountable. It may take going before a judge to get them to do it but in MI AS IS does not apply to a dealer if is stated and signed by both parties. Now on a private sale/purchase, AS IS is AS IS end of discussion.
